  1. Whenever you install mods, you will get occasional crashes. It happens to everyone. You can usually see a pattern of when it crashes (for example, calling in noose support causes a crash for me sometimes).
  2. Yeah, I also wanted to try this and his tow truck, but the download was taken down. :( Hopefully somebody still has it.
  3. :/ If you don't have the latest version of gta IV, try patching it (the current version is 1.0.7.0). Also, you could try running an older version of LCPDFR (like .91). If those don't work, try re-installing GTA IV.
  4. I have no idea, but you could have accidentally re-mapped the keys wrong and overwritten something.
  5. Adding lightbars to an unlocked model barely takes any time. If you want to get into modeling, I'd suggest download some unlocked parts and cars and fool around in zmodeler to learn how to use it (also you can read the tutorials here and on the zmodeler website). Then, once you are proficient with zmodeler, I'd suggest releasing something that is unique, not just a combination of unlocked parts and cars, because there are tons of those already. You could even convert some cars to gta IV and release them, which will set you apart and help you gain a good reputation. It does take a lot of time to convert and make things, so don't get frustrated. :)

  7. Yeah, I'm not sure if windows would even launch with two different cards installed. What could have happened is he looked up the wrong specs for his computer. Also, if he ordered it directly from a manufacturer, he could have selected the wrong graphics card or they installed the wrong graphics card. In any case, he should open the case and actually check what card he has.
  8. As gangrenn said, gta limits the number of doors on a model to six. The only suggestion I have if you is only to map the two front standard doors and have the two rear doors mapped as the rear passenger doors. Then, map the top door as the trunk. It will give you the desired effects, but it sacrifices passenger doors in the process.
  9. The graphics card GTA says it's using is not the best, as its five years old. It's better than nothing, but I believe that card only has 512 MB of onboard RAM, so your graphics settings should not be so high. I would open up the side of the computer and verify you have the graphics card you think you do, because programs usually do not lie. If you have more than one graphics card in your computer for some odd reason, remove the less powerful one.
  10. As NickieB said, the shaking could be caused by the dummy not being centered on the wheel, or it could be that the collision models for the wheels are not lined up properly
  11. That is a really bizzare problem. I would try using a different asi loader like dsound.dll. I'm no expert at reading diagnostic logs, but it looks like there is a problem with direct3d or the direct3d device. It also gives an error involving ram, so some of your ram modules could be bad. Those are just guesses though, and I don't know what is causing the latter two issues.
  12. You can also repair the installation with steam, which replaces any modified game files with originals. Note that it does not touch any file that was not present in the original installation, so you will have to manually remove your scripts, asi loader, etc.

  14. Well, I have an i5 2500k, and its stock speed is 3.3GHz and turbo 3.7GHz. I was able to overclock to 3.8GHz on the stock cooler, but it was running really hot (idle low 60s, load anywhere from 70s to high 80s). The intel stock heatsinks are junk compared to most aftermarket models. For example, I got a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo for about $30 on amazon, and I was able to overclock to 4.3GHz with temperatures still well below those of the stock cooler (idle in high 30s and low 40s, with a load it reads at low to high 60s). Also, I had never replaced a heatsink previously, so my thermal paste application probably wasn't the greatest, but I'm still happy with the temperatures. You should probably use something like HWmonitor to read your cpu temps, because feeling if the case is hot is not really an accurate judge.
  15. That boat looks amazing! Great work!
  16. I tottally agree with you. If I wanted an "All in one media device", I would buy a PC. In all seriousness, you can do so much more with a PC than some storebought media device. I also don't see the point of buying a brand new gaming console when I can just play games on my PC. The only thing that could convince me to buy a new gaming console is the games that are released exclusively for that console (such as Forza). The "media device" market is already saturated with competitors, and I don't think Microsoft can win marketing the xbox as one, as there are much cheaper alternatives if you simply want to stream netflix, surf the internet, and watch youtube. Frankly, I think that if consumers are smart enough, they will realize how pointless gaming consoles are, and instead opt for a good computer that lasts much longer and can perform many more tasks.
  17. Awesome! I'm glad you fixed the problem! I'm not sure why openiv didn't work the first time though.
  18. You can get a decent graphics card for pretty cheap (around $50) on amazon or newegg. You won't be able to run everything on the highest settings, but it's certainly better than what you have.
  19. Not really. The only advice I would have is to turn down your detail and render distance, or any almost graphics setting for that matter. The high poly cars take up a lot of resources to calculate things like shading and so on, as well as hogging RAM because the vehicle file is huge. The other thing you could do is place the vehicle in a slot like polpatriot that doesn't spawn for ai patrols (it won't be driving around). Also if you have a mod like traffic flow, disable it, because it'll increase your performance if you have a lot of high poly cars.
  20. Well, first off, it's not normal to have windows "mess up", I would suggest running a virus scan with a reputable program such as malwarebytes, microsoft security essentials, or norton antivirus if you have a subscription. If that doesn't turn up anything, I would go to http://openiv.com/ and download a different version or check their support page. In the meantime, I'll pm you a link to a blank wtd file.
