The Mind-Boggling Classic Cop Car Thread
Are the second and the fourth car in the top photo Studebaker/Nash/Rambler products? They look great, as do the others (I especially love the Dodge A100 ambulance at the end)! And of course, the Diplomat is simply stunning. You can't go wrong with the teardrop rotating beacon either.

The older Stanier appears to be based on the 1995-1997 Ford Crown Victoria [pictured below] more so than the 1993-1996 Chevrolet Caprice. The newer one is definitively based on the 1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria.

Man Shot Dead After Slashing NYPD Officer in the Head with Hatchet
That's correct; the officer that had been struck in the arm was released previously. The officer that took the hit in the head is surely made of some stern stuff! On that second point, perhaps "rushed" was an exaggerated term. Tinnitus is a real condition though.

On the plus side, the NYPD officer that was hit with the ax was released from the hospital recently. He will be undergoing physical therapy - I hope his recovery goes well! https://www.facebook.com/NYPD/photos/a.274991665910956.65258.262068223869967/731764133567038/?type=1 http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/10/29/cbs2-exclusive-officer-attacked-with-hatchet-released-from-hospital/ http://nypost.com/2014/10/28/cop-in-nypd-ax-attack-takes-his-first-steps-in-a-week/

Another ax attack occurred this morning in Washington D.C., drawing parallels to the NYC attack. http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/31/us/ax-attack-dc-police-perez/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/10/31/nypd-d-c-police-probe-ax-attacks-on-officers/

That's correct; evidently the red showed up better on camera than the green/black/white. The show was Car 54, Where Are You? and I recommend that you watch a few episodes - it is a funny series.

Great photos, as always, Ringo. Those Chicago PD RMPs are definitely unique; I want to say that's a mid 1970s Caprice in front, but I'm not entirely sure. The Ford LTD-S [i think] behind it isn't seen too often either! The photo of the NYPD Plymouth Fury that is facing forward is odd; that lightbar is incorrect. I think they would've used the Dual Comm at that time [or recycled the Signal Stat bar like the photo below]. I was fortunate enough to see that one in person at the 2014 NYC Auto Show. :D

If I'm not mistaken, the wheel style that you linked to was used in the early 2000s up until 2005. In '06 Ford altered the design to the wheel that is on spreilly's model.

This photo (and the others you posted above) is fantastic, 43lincoln. I also like that you can also see an NYC-EMS Suburban in the background. :D

Here are some photos from policeny labeled ESU/ESS. Most of these appear to be rescue-based objectives and not combat-based ones, and the uniforms therefore seem reflect those normal officers. http://www.policeny.com/esdmof1.html

I remember seeing that episode while watching reruns on Spike several years ago - that photo brought Sheriff John Bunnell's over-the-top narration right back to me! :D

Thanks for the info, LtFlash. Gotta love that durability - they don't make 'em like they used to! :D According to policeny, the NYPD began to use portables in the mid 1960s [go to the bottom of the page]. http://www.policeny.com/radiocb1.html I would think that it probably varied by agency, though the late 1960s is probably a good baseline. ---- More candidates for that LA Noire International truck;

It's a shame that more departments didn't make use of the Fox-bodied LTD; it was a great looking car IMO. Gotta love the Diplomat and Aerodynic, and I love how gigantic that portable radio is in addition. It's also good to see that RTS-06 Bus; I was on one a few days ago.

Hopefully one of these days someone will dive back into it. LA Noire has a wealth of unique cars to take advantage of, that's for sure. The LA Noire ambulances would be cool to have as well. Just add a beacon light to the top and a mechanical siren on the fender and you've got greatness!

Dammit, Strike. You always find a way to make threads better and better. xD If someone would be willing to convert that truck, we'd have one hell of an ambulance, milk truck, and/or delivery van.

Favorite Siren?
Mechanical sirens: The Federal 660 "Pulsator" [with a flapper inside of it to give a yelp-like tone to it] The Federal 66G [The same tone as the Pulsator but minus the flapper.] The Super Chief Electronic Sirens: The Scientific Prototypes Mark VII The Signal Stat VI The GE Powercall [though specifically the Powercall tone at 2:02 in the video] The older PA300s with the lower pitches and long wail tone [some had the silver faceplate, others had the black.] Carson Sirens with the Mechanical Tone
