New LCPDFR Community Groups
The new groups won't be implemented as said before by Iconography, but we're exploring additions to the new user info pane (with the badges) to add recognition for things like registration date and such.

Multiplayer IV beta 1 gameplay in C#/Scripthook Open Source
Looks like good work so far. We'll be sure to keep tabs on this. It really shouldn't be. The point of MP is other real players, not AI. Just look at SAMP...

The CIA and the interrogation methods
Don't enter an opinion thread then. The clue is in the tag: 'debate'. I can agree with the notion that no place comes close to the US. It is a truly special country in many different ways. It is also at the same time in a really bad way just now. A lot of people in here have simply pointed out the blatantly obvious failures of recent US foreign policy - failures made only more clear by the Senate report into torture. It's a damming report and really it should be a wake up call for people to realise that the American strategy in the middle east is not working. Over 10 years ago, the war on terror began. Billions of dollars and thousands of American (and British and Canadian and Australian and so on) lives later, is terrorism dead? Is Afghanistan a 'prosperous democracy'? Is Iraq reaping the rewards of having their formerly US supported dictator killed? The middle east is a bigger mess now than it ever has been, and with the US still screwing up pretty much everything it does there, what's the shame in admitting that your government doesn't have a clue?

New LCPDFR Community Groups
Some of you might have noticed that there is a little bit more information being displayed beside your name at the side of posts, as well as other changes like staff titles and us making use of the country profile field for the first time. Just now, this is simply to allow for changes to a test environment where we have a new user info panel concept up and running. It is in no way representative of anything that is planned. You'll be able to try this shortly.

Less lethal cops? Also note on the arrest animation
No, it is different for partners sadly due to the way in which GTA IV's player bodyguard thing works.

The CIA and the interrogation methods
This is why the victims of crime should never be responsible for the administration of justice. In most societies built on the rule of law, including the US, this the way it works. I'm well aware of the difference between domestic and international politics, but there's no reason why a state should see fit to enact justice in a similar fashion. Terrorists certainly do take the lives of innocent people. Then again, so do our governments. What's the difference? Maybe, that the terrorists are honest about it?! Feel free to move to somewhere like China. I'm sure you won't have to deal with "ignorant fucks" that question their government there. Heck, maybe they can put you in kangaroo court and shoot you to death in a sports stadium while they're at it! Its one of the many benefits we have of living in countries like the US and the UK, and it should never be understated, but people like you really don't help anything. You can tout American brilliance one moment, then ignore, or even support, American barbarianism the very next.

The CIA and the interrogation methods
Another not so well thought out perspective. "We're not as bad as x or y" Works on paper, not so much in practice. The examples you mentioned are/were: Ruled by dictators or warlords Brutally governed Lacking democratic oversight Non developed Does the US claim to be either of these? No Does the US claim to be the very opposite of these: Yes Does the US use things like this as justification for interfering in the affairs of such states: Yes Does the US repeatedly condemn human rights violations by other states: Yes Does the US act like this holy being it claims to be: Well, obviously not according to this Senate report. People here seriously need to understand that a lot of the hatred that exists towards countries like the US and the UK is because of things like this. It makes for wonderful recruiting media for the very same terrorists that commit atrocities like 9/11 or 7/7. People generally don't react too well to a big bully saying one thing, while secretly doing the very opposite on a massive scale.
-
The CIA and the interrogation methods
This is just a stupid and blind patriotic perspective though. Look, as distressing as that incident clearly was, there's a simple moral undertone to this. The US goes to great lengths to portray itself as being a hero, as being the leader of the free world, as being a model for democracy and society worldwide... and so on (the list is really extensive). Please compare this to the 'enhanced interrogation techniques' and the many other examples of human rights violations employed by the very same US throughout the world, throughout presidencies, throughout generations. Contradictory? I'd bet anything that many of the prisoners would rather be in a Chinese prison or a Siberian labour camp than a secret CIA dungeon in the middle of Afghanistan. In one sense the release of an actual report and perhaps the beginnings of an investigation into this is a sign that the US maybe isn't as bad as some other states, but in another the damage has been done. Nobody can realistically expect people or states to get everything right. But this has been a systematic abuse of the most basic human rights for decades. Even better is the bit in the Senate report where the conclusion is that all of this was for nothing. And then there's the whole different situation where not only was it, according to the Senate, done for nothing, but it was also often done to people who had done nothing! Nobody should be able to condone this. Absolutely nobody - unless you live in one of Dick Cheney's wild fantasies. TLDR: You cannot, without fully admitting your hypocrisy, condemn acts of brutality committed by others when you sponsor, and personally conduct, such acts yourself. Technically there's no problem with it being your personal belief that torture is fine. Just, make sure that if this is your belief, you also celebrate it when the same happens to some poor, defenseless US hostage in Iraq. It is 100% indefensible.

What Should LCPDFR 2.0 Have?
Honestly, you can (and should) do almost all of this yourself. We're not going to combine other mods with LCPDFR as that is for you to do. That is what makes modding. Picking and choosing what you want! The only thing you listed that isn't possible is #5, and this is something we've tried a lot before but have found really hard to get right. You can control traffic in 1.0c using the checkpoint + QAM feature, by the way. I'd say that the callouts are for you guys to address. The API was made for a reason and I'd love to see more people use it. Regarding AI reaction to the police, I actually sometimes think we've made a lot of progress with this in 1.0 and everyone is in general far more likely to cooperate. Sure, it could maybe do with some refining, but I honestly don't think it is half bad. 1. I'd say we've done all that we can regarding this matter (leaps and bounds have been made compared to earlier versions anyway). 2. It'd be nice. 3. API. 4. Complete AI nightmare. 5. Yes, I often desire this myself. It is complicated from a technical standpoint though as determining the player's intentions can be quite hard. If they call for backup on a traffic stop, we can change it to be so that they come and assist with the stop, but that isn't very useful if you called backup because someone else started shooting. Not ruling this out by any means though. 6. Bit of a technical and AI nightmare. 7. I might change it to 50, 100, 300. 8. API 9. Not a bad idea. 10. Seems a little too much like a cheat/trainer. This is hopefully a likely scenario.

reading Rights
I'd note that I've always wanted to add more to the 'experience' of arresting people, but it is hard sometimes to work with the limited resources that we've got. The closest I can think we have in terms of audio is the state trooper telling someone they have the right to shut the .. up, and well, I'm not sure the realism police would like that one! The only other thing to do is actually record audio for this, and that's never going to happen unless I can track down the voice actors of GTA IV and have them do it for free, because otherwise it throws the immersion out the window. Yes, we could do something else like a speaking animation or some text on screen or whatever, but it seems really redundant and useless anyway. Regardless, you can already put someone in your car and then walk up to the door, press E once, and the door will open. Then, you could maybe use another tool to get some animations (SNT comes to mind) and get your character to do an animation where they lean/chat/whatever, then close the door again when you're done. I'm not trying to take the "oh, but you can do this yourself" approach here, I'm just pointing out that you can perhaps do so, and this is actually possibly better than a more concrete solution designed by us which may not be to everyone's taste.

Less lethal cops? Also note on the arrest animation
There's been no changes to the cop AI as far as this is concerned throughout the 1.0 series. In normal circumstances, they will only start shooting if: Some event or happening brings it on (usually a cop being attacked by a suspect), or The player orders it through the toggle menu The cops will not shoot at any times in 1.0 unless the lethal force flag on that particular suspect is toggled (done by the player, or reaction to events in the environment). I should note as well that I added in a certain amount of tolerance to the cops. If a suspect punches them, or lightly brushes them with a car *in the first instance* , they won't open fire straight away. Any such attack would need to be repeated (in the case of punches) or somewhat significant (in the case of a car strike). From my observations of playing 1.0, there is one other situation where the cops (or maybe more accurately, a cop) might open fire, and that's due to LCPDFR and the game trying to do different things. In the late stages of development for 1.0, I changed much of the cop chasing logic to maximise usage of the existing AI, rather than use our own set of instructions. Primarily, this meant that instead of using the 'run to suspect with gun' task, which we use quite a lot in LCPDFR as it is reliable, we now use the more simplistic 'enter combat with this person' task. The key thing though is that GTA IV handles combat differently based on the entities involved. If I selected a random pedestrian and found a nearby cop (both spawned by the game), and told the cop to fight the pedestrian, he would actually run over and arrest him instead. If i do this with mission entities though (most things in LCPDFR are set as mission entities so they aren't despawned by the game, and we get more control over them), the cop would start shooting them to death. Crucially, in this case, while the overall aim might be to kill, all of the movement, tracking, group coordination, combat and speech is also automatically taken care of by the game too, and it provides the same police response that you're used to when the police are after the player (this is nice from a gameplay and especially an audio standpoint). Back to LCPDFR, though, we obviously don't want the cops to be just shooting these people to death, so we also have some code in there which manipulates them a bit and prevents them from shooting. Unfortunately, sometimes this doesn't always work, and you may end up with a few cops that resort back to shooting. Nevertheless, this should hardly ever happen. I'd note that it seems your examples frequently take place as a suspect is about to be arrested, or has lost their weapon, or something like that. This is a bit of a tricky situation to deal with and at the moment, LCPDFR doesn't care that much if something like this happens mid-combat. You should be able to get around this by toggling lethal force in the tactics menu though (I do all the time). Also I'd love to make the arresting look a bit better, but we have a big trade-off between looks and functionality here - indeed, nothing comes for free. It is incredibly hard to get cops positioned in the right place and such for arresting as it is just now in its relatively simplistic manner. I've seen what would happen if we tried to change the animations around or get them on the ground or something like that and it isn't pretty (think even more endless running into car doors and walls).

PC Portage of GTA V...
I'm pretty sure this discussion is neither here nor there. Nothing wrong with stating the facts known at the time. At the time we didn't *know* (big difference between knowing and making presumptions) the PC version was coming, likewise we don't know much about the PC port other than it'll feature a video editor and was delayed so, in their words, they could make it better.

New LCPDFR Community Groups
I don't see you, nor any group corresponding to you there, so it seems fairly safe to assume you were let go :) On a more serious note, I'll definitely be adding in some way of recognising individual contributions. The one thing I was thinking of was finding a tasteful way to implement a panel, inspired by an LCPD style badge, to display these at the side of posts. Of course the emphasis is on tasteful, and it wouldn't really look like a badge, but you get the idea: User avatar (I think we call these display pictures now in the new Facebook/Twitter world) (this would roughly represent the actual badge) Member group/staff stuff (A large medal/ribbon below the badge) Any awards, merits or other recognition (In the form of smaller medals/ribbons) To give you an idea of what this might look like: Of course, I might try to work out a few different variations of this style, and if there is demand for it, I will experiment with trying to make it more closely resemble an actual police badge (like maybe we can do member registration ID numbers as badge numbers and such). Certainly a lot to think about regarding this, but yes, I'm always a fan of doing things to make our site that bit more special.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt considering the job they did with MP3. I had a lot of fun playing that despite not being a fan of the Max Payne series.

New LCPDFR Community Groups
This is something that we'll consider after the IPS 4 upgrade. Perhaps not in the form of groups that you propose, although it would be nice to work in a way to better recognise individual contributions.

LSPD Quotes
I guess because it isn't an essential part of the game, and most people won't notice the difference. At least they seem to have females as cops and such now (even if they've made some backwards step with their portrayal of other female characters in the game which allegedly they have (I don't know, I've not played it)), it's a step in the right direction I guess. I should add as well that there's a decent amount of new audio. I can't remember exactly what, there were quite a few backup related things, quite a few new megaphone commands too, so the male cops have got many new lines we've not seen in GTA IV.

G17 Media DOESN'T OWN SAPDFR,LSPDFR ?
Sorry, this is just pathetic. A (unregistered) trademark is something used to group together or promote a brand, a group of services, or whatever. It is entirely different from a registered trademark, which uses the ® symbol. You do not have to be a company to have trademarks or copyright. With the number of sites imitating ours (even to the extent of using the same layout and graphics as us), and the extent to which a minority of people in this community thrive on drama (this topic works well as an example), it isn't surprising that we make some attempt to protect the years of hard work that has gone into this project and website. Now, please can we call off the drama and the "yall got 24 hours" crap? Honestly, Fridays are much better without someone trying to cause a fuss about something as stupid as this. If the phrase is beating a dead horse, this is burning down an entire stable.

LSPD Quotes
I'd add there's a number of omissions as well. In GTA IV we have nice things like traffic stop audio, asking people to get out of cars, and asking people to put their hands on their head and things like that. There's nothing for this in V (just one of a few observations I made while gathering audio for my GTA V conversions). Also some of the SAHP voices think they are the LSHP (which is funny) and there's no audio for the female sheriff (she uses the female LSPD one). There is a good deal more audio in general though. Also if you're in possession of extracted audio files from GTA V in hash format, you can use this to decode them: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> The list of hashes which I used (by MulleDK19) is here (this is all ped audio, btw):
