Can I report this to the police?

Featured Replies

Professionally speaking, All threats should be reported to the police whether they are serious or not. and especially if you know him personally or not. A threat is a THREAT! They can track down the person who is threatening you by their IP address.

It's not exactly a good idea to retaliate because then that puts you in the wrong....

The best thing to do here is to report the situation to your local P.D. especially if this has been going on for awhile and hasn't shown any signs of letting up. If he approaches you in school, you do however have the right to defend yourself, ONLY if you are being attacked or fear that you are in danger due to this person. Report this to your school as well so that if you have campus officers, they may possibly be able to talk to this kid and explain what he is getting himself into.

*If* you do fight it out, make sure he takes the first swing. That is all.

Well of course make sure he takes the first swing, the only problem with that is a lot of schools are now saying even if you defend yourself you still get suspended. My old school in Niagara Wheatfield has it and many other schools seem to have it to. I am not sure if his school specifically has it but like a lot of people are saying go talk to your parents, teachers or w/e you want to do. As far as getting the police involved that is a possibility to. You are indeed being threatened and bullied. All you need is the proof. It's kind of like cyber bullying, and that is a big thing in these areas, bullying is taken very seriously.

Well you should immediately tell your parents and teacher/principal. If the problem persists then I would go to a local police department so they can figure out what to do to keep you safe.

I agree with what gnat said earlier, IF you do fight, let him throw the first punch, have lots of people around to see that he did throw the first one. But if he does throw it, let it hit you in the arm or somewhere that won't hurt as much, that way you have evidence that he stuck you and struck first. But before any of that, talk to your parents, talk to school administrators, keep the message from Xbox, maybe take a photo of it so you have solid proof of him threatening you. If it gets serious enough, as in he starts to follow you places or harass you at your home, then you might want to get the police involved. BUT!!! Only use the fight and an extreme last resort. ONLY if you talk you school admins and your parents a bunch of times and nothing gets done about it. Like davem said, kids tend to act like hardasses and stuff over the internet, 99% of the time, they won't actually have the balls to approach you and start anything. Also, if you do get into a fight and plea selfdefense and it works, I'm pretty sure that you can press assault and terroristic threat charges on him. Maybe battery charges, not sure what they fall under.

i would recommend you to talk to parents and teachers and stuff.

But if your teachers tell you "just ignore him" plz don't follow their advice.. ignoring bullys dosen't work for shit xD

they won't just stop xD

BUT if you can't find a way to talk it out than i have to agree with our desperado here lol

Be a macho and say viva la resistance!!! Just punch him on the face, don't let anybody scare you.

It comes the point where talking simply dosen't work.

And yes you may be suspended from school a week.. but the bully won't ever lay hands on you again

What are you going to tell the police? This guy on xbox live threatening to kick my ass when we get back to school? They wouldn't be able to do anything about that as its only a threat now, but if there is violence behind the threat it can be dealt with than. Here is a example, " im going to kick your ass" Cops can't do anything about it. "Im going to come to school and shoot you and every one else there" That can be dealt with as its showing how and what he is going to do.

Fighting is not the answer... usually leads to more serious acts of violence. Please get your parents involved along with school administrators, if the school administrators feels the threat(s) are legitimate and have rightful grounds on permanent separation from the school, then you have done your part.  If the threats goes beyond that, then seek your local authorities for assistance.

Although you have the right to seek help from your local police department first, it's just best to resolve these types of issues first with your parents and school administrators. Most schools have tough rules dealing with bulling... hopefully your school does too.

As an FYI, any threats dealing with firearms, please contact your local police department or specialized police unit that maybe assigned to your school, if any. DPD has a specialized department for Detroit schools, DPSPD (Detroit Public Schools Police Department).

Good luck,

Communicating a threat is a crime in North Carolina under Criminal Law section 14-277.1, which says:

§ 14‑277.1. Communicating threats.

(a) A person is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor if without lawful authority:

(1) He willfully threatens to physically injure the person or that person's child, sibling, spouse, or dependent or willfully threatens to damage the property of another;

(2) The threat is communicated to the other person, orally, in writing, or by any other means;

(3) The threat is made in a manner and under circumstances which would cause a reasonable person to believe that the threat is likely to be carried out; and

(4) The person threatened believes that the threat will be carried out.

(b) A violation of this section is a Class 1 misdemeanor

This doesnt mean the bully gets hauled away in cuffs but what the police would do is try to resolve the matter by talking to all parties involved.

Again, Im in agreement as Nutt mentioned above and this would be by advice aswell.

We don't need users encouraging other users to fight someone in real life, okay. This is a real life problem. Like others have said, contact the School Director or your parents.

Nothing to see here!
