Petition to Take-Two Interactive & Rockstar Games RE: OpenIV closing

This is unbelievably stupid. It's annoying to us, sure, but It'll be fairly devastating for rockstar. If GTA isn't moddable, I guarantee they lose at least half of the people that play single player even on a semi-regular basis. I can't remember the last time I played online, and I know there are tens of thousands of people like me. There's pretty much NO reason to buy any rockstar game on PC as opposed to consoles now. I'll just pick up GTA 6 for Xbox one, play through the single player once and never play the game again. Their PC sales will PLUMMET

Let's be realistic here. Rockstar doesn't actually make money from you playing single-player. They make money when you purchase a game, but then they make no more money from you except through subscription services, paid DLCs, microtransactions, etc. And while there may be "tens of thousands" of people like you, tens of millions of people bought GTA V. The modding community feels big to its members, but that's not where Rockstar makes its money.

Notice how on the steam store page, nowhere does it say that modifying the game is prohibited and/or illegal

From the Rockstar EULA:

Quote

You agree not to:

[...]

h. reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, display, perform, prepare derivative works based on, or otherwise modify the Software, in whole or in part;

The Steam store page is not where companies put the terms and conditions of their software.

Done. I also think a tweeting campaign is in order. (@rockstargames)   This is something very odd with Take2. Many gaming companies (Especially open world games it would seem) are fairly ope

Petitions do nothing. You aren't going to win over a multi-million dollar company.   What you people need to be petitioning is having the retards over at OpenIV stop forcing users to uninsta

How ever note that if they do not tell us directly they cannot expect everyone to know the R* EULA, neither did it say whilst downloading that you must comply to the R* EULA(from what I remember of buying the game)

They do require you to accept it before running the game. You probably just clicked "accept" without reading, but that's your problem (details may vary by jurisdiction, consult a local lawyer for details; the OpenIV team seems to feel that provision is unenforceable in Russia, but they also don't feel like fighting it).

You do realize the sheer size and power of a pissed off GTA/LSPDFR community, right?

This is a joke, right?

Actually yes it is. As much as i love LSPDFR/Mods/OpenIV i do realize that there is nothing we can really do. There are a few thousand of us and if nothing else millions of dollars on their side. It was sarcasm based at the people saying "We'll boycott" etc.

I created a petition against the closing of OpenIV to TTI, and R* Games:

"For 10 years now the Grand Theft Auto series has been edited and modded by people to make the game more enjoyable. Hundreds if not thousands of people have bought one or all of Grand Theft Auto: SA, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Grand Theft Auto V. The modding of these games have been done mostly in singleplayer and with the help of OpenIV, a software that lets you get into the game's files and replace vehicles, scripts, textures, etc. The closing of OpenIV leaves 1000s of people without access to be able to mod their games, and leaves 1000s of people without the ability to continue their hobbies. All modding used by OpenIV is for singleplayer use only to make the game more enjoyable, the software OpenIV was never used to mod multiplayer or Grand Theft Auto Online so it does not harm anyone. Myself, and other members of the LSPDFR and GTA modding community ask that OpenIV be allowed to continue distributing and running as a modding software. Thank you."

Time to pack up shop boys. We're going home

no but seriously, we might as well as head back to IV *shudder* or move on to different games such as ARMA or even 911: FR.

I think you are massively overestimating how many people buy GTA on PC for the vanilla content.

You're missing the part where people have these things called consoles to play the game on, and I guarantee you, that number is far more substantial than that of PC.

Consoles existing doesn't help the fact that PC sales would take a hit. What a silly argument.

Corporations have a vested interested in selling as many of their product to as many people possible.

A petition? I'm sure Take Two can afford their own toilet paper.

If EVERYONE who enjoys modding GTA to some extent was to indefinitely stop purchasing ANY Take Two product (including all R* and 2K games) , it just *might* have enough impact on their sales for them to notice something's up. Maybe. But then they'd blame it on shifting demographics or some other BS.

And who here can actually swear they won't jump on RDR2 the day it comes out, or buy a Civ 6 complete bundle when it's 75% off on Steam?

Best thing to do is wait for greed to do its thing. Greed leads to overhyped, buggy, repetitive, microtransaction-ridden, short and boring games, games that get destroyed by critics and despised by the larger masses of gamers. Then they have no choice but to emerge out of terribleness, or go under.

I signed it. Good luck to all in the modding community. This is a sad day in the GTA IV & V modding community. I hope Take Two open there eyes and hearts after they see how unpopular their game will be in a few weeks. I would not be playing GTA V now if it weren't for Mods. The people who create these mods, plugins and scripts are very talented people who actually should be hired by Take Two. I cannot believe I am writing this today.

A petition isn't gonna change anything.

If there are enough consumers complaining, that will change things. We shouldn't just "sit back and take it". That approach will never win.
