After the Democrats destroyed this country even further for eight years, I'm glad a Republican President (as well as a Republican-majority House, Senate, and Congress) is finally a reality. Obama is a good man (and has amazing charisma), but as a President, I don't think he did the best job. That's just my opinion.

Donald Trump is a very smart man, and I've always admired him. He's said some bad stuff about woman, and he's rough around the edges, but I think he may turn out to be a breath of fresh air. The same old status-quo obviously isn't working, we need a different direction. We need a fresh perspective, someone who's an outsider to politics.

Not to mention that a good portion of our politicians are bought out puppets. That's the beauty of having Donald Trump as our President. He isn't bought because he has enough of his own money. He doesn't answer to anyone, which is why he's able to go up on stage and say whatever he wants. Imagine if Obama or Hillary or Bernie went up and said some of the same things Trump said. They'd disappear from political view quick.

I don't see the beauty in a President with no experience at all just shouting his mouth off without even taking the time to back up some of his more hurtful claims with a shred of evidence. I could sit around all day saying stuff about how Mexicans are 90% responsible for Global Warming, and it would be nonsense, but then a Billionaire comes along and loads of people thing, hey, even though he has no evidence, he's right.

What's the point in evidence anymore, people don't listen to it. Such a shame what the world has turned in to.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

Trump has said some pretty stupid things, I do agree, his worst comment was back at the RNC in August, his response to the Khan family was downright disrespectful, in spite of this, it's why I'm hoping he can disprove us all by doing a good job with the presidency.

Just another thing I want to add, I'm not a fan of trump, but having Clinton in office meant having yet another person who calls out the police without all the facts present accusing them of violence when it's much different then that, just like Obama did (remember the 1033 program), typical police cynic is what she is.

People just really need to look at the bigger picture. What Donald Trump has said compared to what Hillary Clinton has done makes Trump the lesser of two evils. Bouncing off of what OriginalLight said, another four years of a Democratic presidency will only further plummet this country down the drain. Donald Trump may not be the best solution, but it's definitely something I'd prefer over a continuation of Democratic control, which clearly hasn't been working out very well. Now Republicans have the opportunity to reinforce what they've been trying to implement throughout Obamas presidency. Time to see what they can do, we need some sort of change.

I find it hilarious how the liberals are crying about him winning yet they were the same ones to attack him for not saying he'd accept the outcome of the election.

There is a fucking reason the world laughs at us. The millennial generation is a fucking joke.

As a staunch libertatian, I was disappointed that the third party candidate that I voted for reached single-digit numbers in the popular election. Nonetheless, I was relieved (and surprised) to wake up to Donald Trump as the new President Elect. Unlike Clinton, he has been forthcoming with his (unfiltered) vision for the country, while Clinton has been a lying and corrupt career politician for years and years. Watching videos of H Clinton from many years ago, I see a woman, not a robot, and I think she had good intentions and might have truly had the desire to do good... but since SOS and her habitual lying about emails, in addition to failing to claim responsibility for the Americans killed in Benghazi, I think she has proven that she is unfit to be trusted by the public. Plus I can't possibly imagine lower tax rates with her extensive social programs, including massive funding of planned parenthood and the "affordable" care act (out of principle, I do not believe in my tax dollars going toward any sort of govt-run or funded healthcare).

Much of what Trump says will never come to pass and I think that he now knows that the battle is over and the presidency is his. I hope that he will lead the country in a new direction and work with congress to bring back some of the fiscally conservative policies & principles we haven't seen in nearly a decade.

Its good she lost because right wing terrorists couldn't help but kill her? That's one way to frame it...

I'll rephrase myself then. It is not crystal clear for me that Trump prompted 'right-wing terrorists' to kill her. It is clear though that protesting now because left-liberal candidate lost the election is hypocrisy because those very same people would be praising Hillary's victory (completely forgetting of how unfair the US electoral system is all of a sudden). I'm glad that for the next couple of years liberals won't be telling me what bathroom to visit and what gender pronoun to use. Oh, and that a criminal isn't going to be in charge of the white house.

As of right now you've probably labeled me a right wing terrorist so please kindly don't bother replying, I do realise how retarded I am and all that, thanks.

I never called you a right wing terrorist, that is a lie. Goodbye.

It's challenging, for me at least, to form any sort of rational/realistic opinion on how I feel about Donald Trump being the President when he hasn't even been sworn into office. So far it's pretty much been the same cup of soup that most American politicians have served the American people for the past few elections. They'll do this, that, and the other and it'll make America the greatest nation and fix all of our economic problems and social issues. Our politicians talk what everyone wants to hear, but then don't follow through with their statements once they're in office. The only difference with Donald Trump, in my opinion, is that what he's saying is simply catering to the far-right wing conservative crowd in America; which is something that we haven't seen in a while. I just feel that it's hard to really give any logical opinion on the matter when nothing has been done thus far. As things happen (or don't happen), then I'll be able to form a more validated opinion on Donald Trump being the President.

Every politician talks their way through the elections, no one anywhere has solutions, because ones solution is being blocked by the other party(s), well except for Putin lol. Expect 0 change. All we know is that America had a rigged, corrupt and unwanted election.

I dispise what mainstream Liberalism has become, mostly social justice crybabies who think capitilism is killing us all. In the Netherlands its still what its supposed to be. We want a smaller government and to not be taxed to the penny.

After not being on the forums for a while, it's interesting to see how many people have shifted on the political spectrum. Many people I used to debate with are now saying things I wholeheartedly agree with. Kind of off topic, but interesting nonetheless.

Glad to have you back! You're a joy.

I'll start off by saying that I didn't like any of those two candidates. I voted Bernie Sanders for the democrats nominee, and I still stand by my choice. Clinton is a criminal and war-mongerer, Trump is an idiot that has not the slightest idea about how politics work. Neither of them were fitting for the presidency. Clinton had most of her campaign paid by Wall Street, Trump claims he'll be an anti-system candidate but keeps coming back on his campaign promises as days unfold, just like everyone else.

But out of Clinton and Trump, I hate Trump the most. He's mysogynist, homophobic, disrespectful to most people, he thinks climate change is bullshit (went as far as accusing the chinese to have made it up), and many other things that would take me days to list. This guy doesn't make sense. He's inconsistent, has absolutely no knowledge in world economy or in diplomacy. One day he says he likes red, the day after he'll say he hates it. One day he says his wall will cost 4 billions, the day after it becomes 10 billions. He has no clue of what a president is, nor does he have any idea of what being a political figure is. He has been elected on lies, abrasive statements and political incorrectness rather than his capabilities and experience to lead a country, state, county or even the slightest meaningful thing. No, leading a business is not the same. At all. As much as I dislike Clinton, at least she had the experience, both from her husband and her career, to lead a country towards a, if not good, at least correct direction. Now we got Trump, who's mocked by half the world, turned into memes by the another quarter, we have a man who says he'll grab women by the p*ssy that will be representing us, american citizens, in foreign relations. Good choice, without a doubt. It'll clearly make foreign populations have a much better image of our country.

Wait & see as they say, but I'm not delusional. I expect horrible things to happen, for the poorest people of this country, the ones who are forgotten by everyone or looked down upon, the LGBT communities, the minorities, or anyone who came to disagree with him.

Now, onwards with a point that I thought deserved a little more discussion:

The only thing I don't agree with is changing the electoral college system. If the method of electing a president were to be changed to popular vote, the only place candidates would campaign would be California and New York. The electoral college gives Americans from all over the country a say in politics, and I don't think it should be abolished.

Without changing the electoral college system, it could be reworked. The 'winner-takes-all' rule makes little to no sense. Each state has a set number of delegates, why not divide them between the two candidates depending on the % of votes they got? It would be clearly more fair. Let's say a state has 20 delegates, one candidate gets 60% of the votes, the other gets 40%. Instead of having the 20 delegates going the one candidate with the bigger score, there could be 12 delegates going to the candidate with 60%, and 8 to the candidate with 40%. On top of being more fair, it would be much much more representative of the actual population and its political views.
