Tutorial: How to map and make templates for GTA IV models

Featured Replies

i would say everything is dne correctly on here except for the bumpers.

you should of seperated the bumper into three views. left,right, and front/back.

that what a perfectionist would of done but none the less great tutorial

  • Back in 3D view mode you will now see that the roof and the bonnet now are mapped to your template. Just like this: Let's continue with mapping the front bumper. Deselect everything except

Yeah, if I actually would have used this model for something I probably would have done so. ;) But I think people get the deal. :D

Right click on the object (body_body_body) in the hierarchy list and select Properties.

Select Mesh --> Vertices --> Format --> UV Channels --> Change from 1 to 2. (y)

im not getting the error anymore, but nothing shows up in the uv-mapping screen

Did you assign the selected parts to the material?

Thanks for the tutorial Corleone, it worked well.

However, after mapping and exporting my model following your tutorial I've noticed I've somehow managed to accidentally map the interior side of the rear passenger door. Is there a way to fix this by just removing the mapping for that area somehow or is re-mapping the model the best fix?

Select and delete the interior parts of the door. Open a new ZModeler with the stock model you are working on. Select the interior part of the door and detach it. Delete everything else. Save it. Then merge the saved file with the door interior with the latest save file where you deleted the interior part. Then you attach the interior part to the door without the interior. Now you have a proper mapped door with a proper interior mapping. Hope you understood. ;)

I understand except for the part about merging two meshes. I'm not really well versed in Zmodeler, not sure how to do this or how to use the attach tool properly (if that's what you use).

I mapped the template on the side of my Feroci, But I stupidly mapped it while the selection was still orange *facedesk* is there anyway to fix this or am I going to have to rollback to a previous save?

Example:

I'll make you a small tutorial for you. You'll have it within the day.

So the template.png are orange? Is that right? Why don't you open it in photoshop/gimp and change the color, or make it black and white. That should fix it. ;)

This is how it works in GIMP:

Image -> Mode -> Grayscale.

I'm no photoshop expert, but I guess it's more or like the same there.

That shouldn't be a problem if just the texture is orange as opposed to black.

As long as the selection wasn't still active when you did the next side.

Right?

Thanks Corleone, I ended up sort doing what you said and just pull the door off the original, deleted the parts that had been mapping properly (leaving the unmapped, original door interior) and did the opposite to the modified vehicle but I just don't understand how to merge both sides into the same model.

Edited by Ekalb

I haven't got around to the next side, I've lost motivation.

The car itself is done, I just need to finish mapping.

Well, you have two saved files right? The one where all your work is; the mapped vehicle (#1). And then you have the saved file with the door interior (#2). In save #1 select the "File" tab, select "Merge" --> "All" --> "Merge".

Then:

I've seperated the door from the rest of the model:

Rename the door to what it's supposed to be.

You'll get there mate. Take your time. I lose motivation from time to time to.

I've mapped both sides of the car successfully but when I go to force the material on the top, hood and boot of the car I get:

Object "boot_L0" has not enough UV channels in vertex format

Object "bonnet_L0" has not enough UV channels in vertex format

Any ideas whats wrong?

Sorry Harper, didn't see you there! I've covered this before:
