Trojan detected lspdfr

Featured Replies

The lspdfr download link on the lspdfr website: A trojan is detected and is categorized as 'severe'. I cannot see anything on the wesbite or in the forums to explain this problem. The only place I could find information was reddit > https://www.reddit.com/r/GTAV_Mods/comments/4517m6/trojan_found_in_lspdfr_download_from_lcpdfrcom_is/

Sorry if this has been resolved, but I can't find any information.

It's there for a reason, not just because it is.

LSPDFR has been downloaded 1,036,838 times, do you really think it would have so many downloads if there was a trojan hidden in there?

Common sense, bruh.

Exactly what i think when people post these xD

So you're all saying 'false positive move on'. That's exactly how these trojans take hold, your ignorance. If it's a 'false positive' prove it with facts rather than, '1.3m download, common sense bruh'. That particular trojan has infected millions of pcs around the world.

I have used this site many many times and have always found it to be a place of excellence, not only from the host downloads, but also the community in general.... I have also never had any such 'false positives before', so my questioning of this event is relevant. The last comment of ' you don't have to use the mod', smacks of 'it's my ball, i'm taking it home'.

Facts please, not fiction or glib replies ....'bruh'

Information update:  MalSign.Generic is an ad-supported (users may see additional banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial and in-text link advertisements) cross web browser plugin for Internet Explorer (BHO) and Firefox/Chrome (plugin) and distributed through various monetization platforms during installation. The browser extension includes various features that will modify the default or custom settings of the browser including the home page, search settings and in some cases will modify Internet Explorer’s load time threshold, place a lock file within Firefox to prevent competing software from changing its settings as well as disable the browser’s Content Security Policy in order to allow for cross site scripting of the plugin.

So if it is that, why just no say so.

It's there for a reason, not just because it is.

Anti-virus software detects LSPDFR (and LCPDFR) as a trojan/virus because (i believe) a file that helps the site make money by ads. The AV believes said file is a virus when it's not.

I can assure you no viruses are in the LSPDFR download. most AV software detect files as a false-postive. there is an alternative if you don't wish to use the ad enabled one. just download the alternative version (clearly marked on the download page).

That being said LSPDFR is a free third party modification for GTA V, you don't need it to play GTA V so you don't need to download it if you don't want to. nobody is forcing you to use it.

EDIT: I should also point out that the ad generated version does nothing. I've used that version since day 1 and no ads spam your page like adware normally does. if an ad does pop up then it's the smallest ad and doesn't interfere with anything. Our main focus here at lcpdfr.com is to develop and give users a law enforcement style mod to play in GTA, that's our main focus.. we have and never will have any interest of infecting peoples PC with harmful viruses.

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

Hi Couthlnk4,

Many thanks for your full and frank reply.

I appreciate the need to generate income and that turning an ad generated software program is a genuine way to do it. I only wish that someone would have pointed that out in the first place. As for 'forcing', well if it's simply the best mod out there (which it is by far), then I'm happy to be forced. It's just better to be upfront about things. I don't want to infect people either, but others posting, 'it's a false positive', wasn't very helpful.

Thanks again.

it basically is a false-positive. The AV marks it as something majorly serious when it's not. Some AV software marks things as viruses when they're not, they do that to make you think you do so you can buy their product.

using the Alternative version will fix your issue with the AV software.

Err....... they only make you buy their products if you're soft in the head. I know what false positives are, but I also know what signatures are used for actual trojans which are not a virus.... two totally different things. Anyho, all is well, you may close the topic to save the clutter.

I sent the detection to Webroot to analyse and they said it has OpenCandy.
What is OpenCandy?
Not good: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCandy

But if the authors of LSPDFR say it's not there, I would believe them over some AV company.

There are acountless of threads about this already. OpenCandy is what we use for the main installer for us to make some money. It is clearly laid out and there also is an alternate installer which doesn't have open candy, which is also clearly marked and laid out.

If you are uncertain, you are free not to use our software. I can personally guarantee that there's no virus in LCPDFR or LSPDFR, despite what your AV says.
