The Xbox 360 has been discontinued?

Featured Replies

It's sold more than 80 million units, but Microsoft is now going to stop manufacturing it:

So yeah, if you want a Microsoft made console, you'll soon be left with the Xbox One as your only choice.

 Thoughts?

The PS2 was manufactured until 2013, almost 7 years after the PS3 was already released. I think they should wait another 3 years honestly, if there's still sales.

The PS2 had much more success than the X360 though. I'm pretty sure Microsoft know what they are doing, it's probably not profitable anymore to keep producing that console. Especially after the disappointing sales of the XOne, they probably need to bring as much money as they can to have a balanced economic situation.

I first started off on Xbox, I then moved over to PlayStation, I like PlayStation more but using an Xbox was always an experience. I've also heard the new PlayStation will be called the PlayStation 4.5, which is only slightly strange.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

There's more than enough XBOX 360's in circulation though. When people are upgrading their XBOX 360 to XBOX ONE, they'll probably flog it on eBay. A quick eBay search reveals hundreds of 360s massively below retail.

You can still buy original XBOX's, even though their production was halted yonks ago.

I thought (until I heard) they stopped making them years ago! I'm a huge gamer and I started on the 360. Little sad to see it go. But it's nice knowing people still play. That's what really matters right? As long as people still play and enjoy who cares if they stopped making it?

Yeah, it was probably one of the most mass produced consoles ever. I'm confident in saying that there's millions of them.

2013 was when the ps4 came out, they manufactured ps2s until the ps3 was an almost previous gen console,

With the xbox one backwards compatibility aspect, I don't think it's as big an issue to worry about having to replacing one 360 with another. Granted there are still games that won't have compatibility patched in for them (because they're obscure or not as popular) so some games might not be playable. But most games probably would be.
The only issue is how long will Microsoft maintain/update the backwards compatibility? I mean they had it for the 360 for a while too... but then eventually they kind of dropped it to the side.
