How to find and extract scanner audio?

Featured Replies

I'd like to add some more audio options, both to CustomBackup and to my upcoming BetterEMS mod. Where and how do I extract scanner audio? Has anybody compiled a list of scanner audio that could be built upon? I feel like it's a waste of time for everybody to be doing it themselves; can we start working on a scanner audio database?

The annoying part is having to listen to them all to work out what they are..... some of the folders inside the rpf give an idea but not all of them.

I've got a lot of random audio in my callouts, so if you need any of that you can take it - otherwise I don't think anybody's gone through and extracted every one of them.

Thanks. If I use any of them I'll make sure to give you credit!

Thanks for letting me know where they are. If I do end up having to listen to a bunch, I'll keep notes on what's what. I think it would be helpful to start maybe a google doc which lists the audio hash and the content of the clip.

Are we able to play them directly from the RPF? I thought they had to be below GTA V/LSPDFR for the api to play them. I've extracted and listened to all of them but didnt take notes or rename them until I found a use for them. Would be happy to contribute to such a doc if we can play them directly, that'd make our callout downloads much smaller!

I'm not aware of a way to play them directly. @Albo1125 @LMS @alexguirre do any of you know?

I am thinking to reduce oversized downloads we could just go ahead and extract all of them, make it one download ("scanner audio"), and make that a dependency for any callout wishing to use it. With a main list of what each audio clip does, we could all work off one copy instead of having the same thing copied so many times.

OK I'm going to give this a try. For now, if you click the link you can edit. If people start messing around I'll change it to invite-only.

You can use one of the PLAY_SOUND natives but to use them you need to know the real name of the audio file and not the hash, I don't know any way to get the name from the hash so you will only be able to use those that OpenIV has already decrypted.

Looks like all the audio files in the game are 250 MB. A bit large, but for a one-time download to never have to download all the audio files in each plugin ever again... not bad.

Just open them with OpenIV and a window will pop up where you can play the sounds.

EDIT: If you meant how to play them from code, don't think this is possible (yet). Hence why LSPDFR has extracted a few of them for base use.

We could probably break them up a bit too, eg having the vehicle descriptions in one pack, the crime ones in another, etc. Will help out with the doc as I have time over the next few days.

I just extracted the entire pack onto my hard drive. When I need a clip, I just find it, and add it to my project.

I've extracted them all too. The issue is that there's just so many files! So, I think it's beneficial to have a list, at least for the large or non-obvious audio folders, to make it easier to find an appropriate clip for a particular project.
