Richmond Shooting

In Richmond, Virginia, a man opened fire at a Greyhound bus station, killing 3 civilians, and putting a Virginia State Police Trooper in the hospital with life threatening injuries. The suspect is dead. What are your thoughts on this? Source : http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/31/us/richmond-virginia-active-shooter/

Well, if America won't change their attitude to arms, this will happen over and over again. I don't understand why people are still surprised when things like that happen. Many guns, many dead people.

  • I mean i understand where you're coming from, but who was the guy who shot them? A criminal. They don't care about laws. People don't understand that...

I agree with Schecter. Thing is, Americans don't want gun control. They want to run around shooting each other, but then cry about it when someone is killed. There's no winning.

Well, if America won't change their attitude to arms, this will happen over and over again. I don't understand why people are still surprised when things like that happen. Many guns, many dead people. Little guns, little dead people. Simple as that. America has to live with it!

Criminals in my country don't care about the law too! But we don't have so much shootings here. Sometimes rival East European gang members shoot each other. But this is ridicolous rare compared to the US. It's not that easy to get a gun in Germany.

Because they have really good mental health facilities and tests in Germany... In the US, we have a lot of psycho's here, and the government's job looking for them don't do as good of a job as every where else.

The US always had much more serial killers and maniacs compared to other countries (where is enough verifiable data), and most of them didn't use no firearms. Something with mentality... So if I were to live in the States, as I hope one day, I'd rather own a weapon.

Not that I disagree with you, but there is other factors and considerations to take into account when you compare countries. You have to consider and factor in that Germany's population is around 80,000,000, give or take, whereas America's population consists of nearly 320 million. It may be rare that Germany gets a mass shooting, or just a random shooting in general, however America has more than enough population to go postal several times over.

We can all say and chalk it up to "too many guns!" and I agree, to a certain extent, stricter and more refined gun laws need to be put in place.....but the kicker is that each country is unique in their laws and how they operate. It'd be crazy if all of a sudden America imposed law(s) similar to that of the laws in England, or Germany. Something definitely needs to give, but at a smart and considerate approach. Unfortunately though that there will always be Americans that simply think "more guns equal more good" but, you can't please everyone and America needs a facelift.

Alternatively, this can also be chalked up to a simple "shit happens", especially since the whole war against Police has yet to stop.  There is really no rhyme or reason as to why this happened, the guy walked up to an officer, shot him point blank while the officer among other officers were doing a training exercise - which leads me to believe that the latter of it all seems to be the case. Pointless violence by a pointless piece of shit that beheld a grudge against Police for whatever the reason.

Well, first of all. I don't judge about the Americans. They've got the 2nd Amendment. We've got the Autobahn.:wink:But seriously. It has something to do with the mentality and attitude to guns. I'm a legal gun owner , too! Yes, i'm a german citizen and i own one. But i have to obey some rules to keep my gun. First of all, i have to prove a need. To own a gun for self defense isn't a need in my country. And i can only own a handgun or a Revolver. So, 9mm, cal. 38 or .357 Magnum. If i want to buy my first gun i've to be a member of a shooting club for at least 12 month. I've to note down my visits on the shooting range in a shooting book. And that's my need. I'm a member of a shooting club. and that's the reason, why i can legaly own a gun. I'm not allowed to carry my gun outside my house. Only on duty. But that's an another story. I've to take care, that my firearm is locked in a prescribed safe and seperated from ammunition. The gun agency in my hometown is allowed to check it! I have to let them in my house. Nobody must know the safe code or the place where i keep the key for the safe. So, it's very strict in here. And i must a have a clean criminal record certificate. I think there is not so much respect for guns in America than in my country. And most of the Americans i know have the eye for an eye mentality. And the black & white thinking. Or bad guy & good guy. But in reality nobody is always good or always bad. And it's easier to kill someone with a gun than with a knife. I can keep the distance. I think the solution should be to have more rules.

i agree , the laws u mention for German gun owners for hand guns is what us americans that own ar15s go through but i think the hand gun laws should be a little more stricter specially the gun show loop hole where anybody can buy a gun at a gun show  , and i also believe in the 2nd amendment also as it was made to fight against tyranny not so people could walk around trying to get arise out of police so they can have a good youtube channel it was not made for that lol

In all 12 years of me being in North Wales, never seen or heard a gun. I suppose that's one of the few benefits to living here.

Well, last summer i heard a couple of shots while laying in my bed. And next day i read about a shooting between rival european gang members a few blocks away from where my home is. Sometimes i actually here some shots. That's because there's heavy drug trafficking around here. But it's between the criminal scum. Normal people like you and me have nothing to do with this shit. So, the propability to get shot in Germany is pretty low. But my homeland has to get rid of this scum!

North Wales Police has had tons of budget cuts and still somehow manages to offer the same, if not more protection than before. No gangs here, only a few arsonist problems.

If you tried to take all guns off the street in America, there would be WW3.

I think a smarter solution is to make the process of buying a gun even harder.

  • You must attend a 2 day training course. First day, 6 hours of learning about every single detail about a gun. Second day, range day.
  • Extensive background checks. Check all agencies, not just local PD. FBI etc. Make sure they're not using a changed or fake name.
  • Psychological examination. The type they give criminals AFTER they have shot up a school.
  • If someone is found with a gun without a license, heavy penalties. $5000 fine and 100 hours community service. If you don't pay, 2 years in jail.

What do you mean with WW3, do you mean American citizens who go on the streets to protest or do you mean a actual world war?

My condolances to the victims their families.

Agreed, America would be in huge trouble if they chose to ban guns.
