rockstar is anti-modding

Featured Replies

what I think of the new update is that rockstar did something with the game so you can't play with mods using ragehook because rockstar hate when people make mods see in the beginning when gta 5 was released for the pc so it seem logicall that they did something in the game

Eh not really. If they hated modding, then they wouldn't have allowed it for SP in the first place.

Uh.. no they aren't.. See here in a snippet from a Q&A last year on their newswire:

kM7Jx2n.png

They support singleplayer mods. The only ones they do not agree with are ones that affect GTA Online.

When they update their game, mods will break. Its not their fault, they don't create the mods. They however don't "hate" the modding community and actually rather much respect it.

theres no reason for them to update with patches other then add mindless content that doesn't really improve the game...id rather have story dlc then the other garbage they have been releasing, it gets old having to constantly update ragehook just to play single player with mods im just about ready to uninstall gta v until they move on from online

As much as I'm sure we'd all like them to focus on singleplayer, they won't anytime soon.

They said themselves that the success of online has taken them by surprise, so much so that they've pulled team members that were solely working on singleplayer DLC and put them on the online team.

We will see some SP DLC one day, but for now, online is a very successful model for them and as a business, they'll do everything they can do get as much as they can out of it.

I would seriously beg to differ. I can't think of any other game where updates are forced on you and consequently break all mods every time as a result. If they really "supported" mods as they claim then this would not be a recurring issue. Two or three times maybe, but every single time is unacceptable. Fact of the matter is, if the guys that make RPH and Scripthook didn't release new versions alongside these updates, that would be it, and Rockstar would get their way. Fact is they HATE things like LSPDFR, for example, because it takes attention away from their big cash cow: GTAO.

I don't have the patience to re-do all my mods every time they cram unwanted DLC down our throats. This last update was the 4th and last time for me. Combine that and the fact that the backup/downgrade feature on RPH has never worked, I'm done with GTA 5. I couldn't even enjoy playing LSPDFR for more than a week or so because these updates ruin everything. Until someone finds a way to crack the code or whatever, and completely disable the Social club update thingy, so we can play offline, it's not worth it.

Oh no! Not more free content for the game I paid for! I'll have to wait a full day or two for my mods to work again! Unbearable! D:

I'm sorry but get a bloody grip. YOU may not want the content but a lot of people do, myself included. Rockstar is giving us FREE CONTENT on a regular basis, which is something a lot of companies won't do, and you're still complaining about it because you have to wait a day or two for your modifications to be updated. Boo hoo.

So much sarcasm to ridicule others doesn't show intelligence. Now, about your argument, I understand there's people who like free updates. But they should just pack all updates together and release them every 6 months, or if they want to release them every month, make people play singleplayer without going online. Ignoring the fact that pc players want to play this game modded and not retail edition is ignoring your customers. Btw their post about ''we like people modding in sp'' is just hypocrisy at best. They know they're making modders' lifes harder, thank god our modders are still willing to put in the hours.

Cities Skylines much? CO fully supports modding for it, forced updates through steam broke the mods.

Well to sum it up its no surprise that they don't want modding, because it "ruins the community" and "ruins the GTA economy" then theres the R* sympathizers that keep saying "Oh well, we get all the DLC for free so you should buy Shark cards or just grind hurr durr"

They DO support mods, they enjoy seeing the new creative ideas the community comes up with, not to mention - they still get money at the end of the day, People are still buying GTA: San Andreas & GTA IV to this day because of mods. SA-MP being the main contender for SA and numerous and quite simply, fantastic mods for IV.

Directly from their newswire;

Truth is, they support modding on a third party level - There are SO many mods out there that all inject into the game in different ways, Rockstar could not possibly be in direct contact with every single creator out there so they could create each update without breaking a mod or two.

If they were so against modding, they certainly wouldn't feature them on their own newswire so frequently. Expecting a company to prevent updates to their own game breaking third party modifications is a ridiculous assumption.

Its the same with other games, the guys behind cities skylines and the guys behind American Truck Sim do support mods, but warn that every update they do to their games will probably break mods

They don't mind any mod that doesn't hurt their bottom line. It's as simple as that. If you make anything that hurts Rockstar financially, by either giving the game a bad name (through something like a sex mod) or making multiplayer (which they see would hurt their shark card sales) then they will go after you.

Basically, like any generic big corporation. Not good, not evil. Don't misplace any loyalty into a big corporation. If LSPDFR ever started work on an online component, they would probably go after us.

Who cares if they are pro-modding or anti-modding? They already have your money if you bought the game, their position on modding changes nothing.

I 100% agree with you! They need to get their greedy hands out of the modding topic, because quite frankly, we paid money for their game and what we do with it once we own it in single player is OUR business, not theirs!
