HOW TO: Avoid Rockstar Updates

Featured Replies

Hi people,

So for a few people (including me) blocking the gta 5 from updating doesnt work with these methods, so i tough lets show you mine.

(This works with the warehouse version, im not sure about steam)

Step 1: Press the windows button and search for Firewall with advanced settings.

Step 2: Make a new rule (going outwards) and select PlayGtaV.exe from your gta 5 install folder

Step 3: Mark each network setting (it should be marked in the rule setup as default)

Step 4: Select it to block all connections (this step is still in the rule setup)

Step 5: Press finish and start gta, yes you can still start it with RagePlugin launcher.

WARNING: THIS METHOD WILL BLOCK GTA ONLINE TOO (just delete the rule if u want to go online)

Hey,

I'm having a little issue I currently have GTA V on disc I have installed a few textures (peds) using OpenIV. However everytime I do this the game tries to update, after it updates it wipes out, what I've added. I've tried to play offline which didn't work and a new problem pops up with a error VIA offline social club advising me to play in safe mode or contact Rockstar customer services. (Safe mode doesn't work).

Has this happened to anyone else? Or is it just because the texture pack I added was faulty and that's GTA reparing itself? It's got me this one.

@IckleKI Hi, Did you try my method of blocking GtaV from updating?

(Its also on this topic, right at the bottom of the last page)

Hey thank you for replying. The issue was that one of my openIV mod directories (x64) wasn't added.

Issue solved for me thanks :).

Okay, so I tried this out and it wasn't working for me. I don't have a steam version of the game. I download directly from Rockstar. Im' not sure what that is. So I actually have somewhat of a work around by unplugging my internet after my copy is authorized online. Then it forces it to run offline.

But here is my problem. I'm not sure what mod I install that triggers this, but when I install some of my mods it my erase the file that says I've already logged in online. Then when I launch the game again it says I have to sign in online first. Then it updates and erases all my mods. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate the help.

*Update*

After reading a little closer and looking at what 'm dealing with, I realized that I might be talking about something different. When I launch the game I'm prompted to login into my social club account. This is where I'm having problems. If i login while online it will "update" the game and and download files that i've modded. If i use the "-scOfflineOnly" trick, the game does appear to go straight into story mode and it says i'm "offline" but that doesn't change anything with the social club part of the login. Does that make sense? So if I unplug my internet and social club login comes up it won't let me run it offline unless I've logged in and authorized the account first, which I have. But it doesn't seem to thing I've done that. Any thoughts? I've attached a screen shot of what login screen I'm talking about.

It works - you just need to get the latest Ragehook from their website.

Does the original method still work for the patch released today (6/7/16)? I have my entire GTA V folder backed up (before the patch as I normally do on a external HDD)

Thank you to the original publisher of this forum!

I'm so late on this, but if anyone still checks this anymore, I tried doing this with today, when the Finance and Felony update released. I followed all the instructions, but I got something I haven't seen anyone else mention here. When I launch GTA V through RAGE Plugin Hook, steam, or GTA5.exe I get the same error when the launcher comes up. It says:

I followed the link and followed the instructions there as well. I uninstalled Social Club in multiple locations (every location I could find with the Social Club uninstall tool), reinstalled the latest version, and I still get the same error. I couldn't think of any other methods, so I decided to see if anyone realized a stupid error I am likely making. Any help would be appreciated.

I just had the same error after following all of the steps.  You're not alone.

***UPDATE: Found solution in this thread.  Basically, you just need to install an older version of Social Club:

Guys this method still works? Someone managed to play after this update?

Yes it does work.  There is an extra step though, you will need to downgrade the Social Club version... check the reply right above you.

Updated Information! - Reverting Game Version 757 to 678

Special thanks to all users who discovered this, and to MulleDK for the tutorial video that can be found at the top of the home page, or here.
In order to revert this game version you are required to backdate your Social Club Launcher application as well, failure to do so results in "error 16".

Follow the steps of the full guide on page 1 as per usual, replacing the updated game files with the backed up old version (678). When you try to launch the game now you will received an error 16 launch failure.

1) Uninstall all traces of the Social Club application
2) Install the corresponding patch release for the Social Club launcher. This can be found direct from Rockstar's website here http://patches.rockstargames.com/prod/socialclub/Social-Club-v1.1.7.8-Setup.exe

3) Launch the game and enjoy your mods

What files am I looking for in step 1? I can't seem to find any files linked with social club but everytime I try to run the older social club installer it just tells me there is a new one and exits.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't read the other page! Works now, thanks!

In theory all you have to do is uninstall the Rockstar Games Social Club application (Programs and Features as it shows in Mulle's video).

I would double check your versions match up. It should be game version 678 and launcher version 505.
