HOW TO: Avoid Rockstar Updates

Mine kept updating, even though I followed these steps 1 by 1, so I ended up going into control panel, network and internet, change adapter settings, disabling local area connection and then starting my GTA V and then had to wait like 2 straight minutes (not too bad :D) until it timed out and let me do offline mode manually. After the game loaded in, I just re-enabled Local Area Connection and had Internet again and GTA V ! :D thanks for the guide. Maybe you post what I did as an edit saying this is an alternative if GTA V keeps updating nonetheless ?

As the guide says you can't STOP the update from happening, you can just bypass it with the backups you make. And as for your alternative that's already written down with the command line -ScOfflineOnly parameter. But thanks for offering your solution, it may or may not be helpful to others reading.

Trust me, like I said, I did everything word for word, including "-ScOfflineOnly". It made no difference, unfortunately :/ and yes, it was without quotes.

My game has updated and I have the steam version and I have no backup because I didn't know this would occur. So there's no other way of obtaining the files? Because I've looked over the internet for the 1.27 files and I can't find them anywhere. Or am I just going to have to wait for a update on rage hook or lspdfr something like that.

Hey man. I've got a backup of the executable and .rpf file I could send to you but I'm not sure whether either of them are 1.27

They are 1.0.393.4 and 1.0.463.1

Let me know your email if one of those is right.

EDIT: I just realized I made a backup of 463.1 less than a week ago so hopefully 393.4 is good.

that no longer works with the latest update

I would recommend you to just use the built in RAGE Plugin Hook backup feature. Works like a charm and you can upgrade whenever you wish to.

Did someone say countdown?

This does not work on non-steam version, it downloads files again after replacing them with backups. Oh well, I just update my mods and my game will work fine.

It works fine if you have the Steam version like I said in the guide (consider the fact I'm still at least 2 patches behind right now). And please consider this guide is aimed at avoiding the updates when they first happen, nobody can release updated mods within the first few days of a patch update as they have to wait for the hooks to be updated. Even then updates may take a while.

If you're going to give advice please be considerate to the original needs of the guide. We can't all update the second there is a patch. this applies for mod authors and users.

And this method does not work with the CD version of the game, I'm assuming? I tried using the backup thing on RPH but that didn't seem to work. Well, it was fun while it lasted. I got to enjoy LSPDFR for a few days and then Rockstar crams unwanted DLC down my throat and ruins the whole game. I don't have the patience to reinstall all my mods and edit the .meta files. It took me 2 weeks of trial and error to get GTA V modded and running the way I wanted, I got to play and enjoy it for about 5 days, and Rockstar ruined it in a nanosecond.

As the list of epic mods keeps growing and after the week of hell I had re-installing GTA V (Due to my own dumb mistakes and impatience) and putting ALL the mods back in this gets me smiling on this Friday morning. My eternal thumbs up to you sir!

Yeah but if you have the CD version you are screwed every update.

1) Open your GTA V commandline file (called commandline.txt) and add the following to it "-scOfflineOnly" (without the quotes), this will force GTA V to load social club in offline mode (and therefore boot straight into singleplayer) NOTE: You must have loaded GTA V at least once to let it authorise your account before using offline mode.

HI, thanks for this information, its been helpful. I tried putting this commandline in the indicated text file, but if I end up adding any additional mods to the game Social Club prompts me to sign in online again and says that I don't have any accounts that I've signed in with online before that has been verified. Is there something I've missed?

@LukeD Possible update of the post :

Add the fact that in RagePluginHook 0.29+, a seperate log file is created (and the others stored in the Logs folder) each time the game start. So you don't have to scroll entirely down then back up slowly, the version is at the top of the log file.

I am utterly sick of gaming these days. You cant even launch a game without being connected to the internet. Heaven forbid I ACCIDENTALLY launch my game connected to the internet, rockstar forces me to redownload the "update" from their servers which doesnt fucking work! I have to take my PC to a friends house so he can download grand theft auto from steam and mesh them together with my CD version just so I can play the game again because Rockstar has incompetent servers. PLUS I lose each and every mod I have. If I had known gaming has come to this I wouldn't have invested thousands of dollars in a new computer. I suppose the days of installing a game and being able to play it are gone.

I had the same issue yesterday, kept crashing on 52mb. Tried letting it update today and it worked without any problems though.

I bought the Steam version last year because I got tired of the stupid Rockstar servers errors.  Now I use the Rockstar version for LSPDFR and the Steam version for online.  I had this issue this morning while trying to launch the Rockstar version again, so I copied the files over from the Steam version to the other location of the Rockstar version to update it.  Very frustrating.

If you have the Rockstar version and you see GTA V Steam Version on sale sometime, if you have a few extra bucks, it's much more hassle free.  They both use the same location in My Documents, but the games files are in different locations.  I used to do the OpenIV mods switch until I bought a second version for Steam, so that solves the files issue...but not the updates problem.
