Hello All!

This is NOT a thread asking for any kind of support. Rather, it is a thread on my findings after playing the various versions of LCPD:FR on GTA IV version 1.0.4.0. Hopefully, this will help the developers if they ever add support for 1.0.4.0, which I read they dropped because they couldn't get text boxes to work (according to their response on gta4-mods.com):

@ Everyone who runs 1.0.4.0:

At the moment we can't support 1.0.4.0 because of technical limitations. LCPDFR uses some pretty complicated memory hacking, and obviously all the offsets and addresses for this sort of stuff change every time a new patch is released. The main problem we had was related to the way in which we use the native GTA IV helpboxes up in the top left to display text through .gxt hooking, as this was just crashing like there was no tomorrow on 1.0.4.0, therefore we were only able to support the latest versions of GTA IV and EFLC.

Hopefully in the future, LCPD:FR will be fully compatible with 1.0.4.0, and Jay's response to my post on this issue at GPM gives me hope. It is just a matter of time.

After some experimentation playing version 1.0.4.0 of the game with various versions of LCPD:FR, I can conclude that the ELS-related crashes that a lot of people seem to have depends on the version of LCPD:FR that I'm running as well. I have tried 0.91, 0.95 Beta, and 0.95 RC2. So far, 0.95 Beta appears to crash the most, and most often during car chases or when a random pursuit world event starts. I think that the crash happens when the 0.95 Beta tries to spawn backup units and/or NOOSE units. Just asking for NOOSE backup will cause the game to crash, and this was a problem with the coding that was resolved in 0.95 RC1. Also worthy of noting is that 0.91 says that ELS is installed in the console, whereas 0.95 Beta and 0.95 RC2 says it is not installed even if it is.

The mod that runs the best is actually 0.95 RC2, believe it or not. I've had no ELS.asi or GTAIV.exe crashes playing this mod for over an hour, whereas 0.95 Beta will crash every 15-30 minutes or so. Even the suicide missions work properly, whereas in the 0.91 Stable and 0.95 Beta versions, it will keep spawning police cars until the game crashes (due to being out of memory, I believe) whenever I play that particular mission because of "[ERROR] Native function named "SET_PED_WEAPON" is not available." The only thing that doesn't work in 0.95 RC2 with 1.0.4.0 is arresting people. I've tried all other functions, including pulling cars over, giving parked cars tickets, frisking suspects, playing callout missions, etc. and they all work. The only flaw is just pressing "E" to arrest a ped, which will always automatically cause a C0000005 error (and also a CSharp.Engine.Core error). I believe that this error is attempting to read or write in protected memory and is related to MS .NET/C++ coding.

I want to stress that I'm using 1.0.4.0 not for the graphics mods out there, but for the better performance and overall stability of that patch. I get 20+ increase FPS in 1.0.4.0, and can play at a near constant 60 FPS (except during car chases, of course), and about 90 with Vsync turned off. With 1.0.7.0, the game seems to like 40 FPS, regardless of Vsync. Plus, 1.0.7.0 seems more prone to crashing. I have two computers: one runs 1.0.4.0 with LCPD:FR and one runs 1.0.7.0 with LCPD:FR. The one that runs 1.0.4.0 actually crashes less than the one that runs 1.0.7.0. So, that's why I think that it would be great if there's a way to make the newest LCPD:FR versions work on the patch of GTA IV that works best overall (which is 1.0.4.0) someday. I don't know why anyone would play on 1.0.7.0 anyway, considering that Rockstar Games basically broke the game by dumping the good shadows/shading system for a crap one that lowers performance and FPS, limiting modding capabilities and performance, and bringing other BS into the game that causes it to crash more often. It's not our fault that 1.0.7.0 requires so much resources to play, because Rockstar Games made it that way after patch 1.0.4.0.

Anyway, I hope this helps in the development of LCPD:FR in the future. I love playing this mod more than I do most of my other games, and hopefully I can continue to enjoy it in the future with added features and enhanced support! Keep up the great work, G17 Media! :)

ADDENDUM on 06/10/2012: People have recently been PMing me in regards to this thread. I have tried to condense all the findings and additional topics into the following paragraphs. Please refer to them for a simplified and conclusive version of this thread, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all.

To start off, a myriad of members here mix up patch 1.0.4.0 (4th patch) and 1.0.0.4 (5th patch). They are NOT the same version and hence cannot be treated as such. Also, to get most mods to work on 1.0.4.0 is an older version of ScriptHook.dll, which can be found here. It's really that simple. This version of ScriptHook.dll works with the latest version of ScriptHookDotNet.asi (1.7.1.7 Beta), which can also be found here (and is NOT included with the latest LCPD:FR...the version which it installs is only 1.7.1.4 Beta). The latest versions of dsound.dll, xlive.dll, and AdvancedHook.dll all work fine with this version of ScriptHook.

To keep it simple, 0.95 Beta 1 works the best in terms of features, but 0.95 RC2 works the best in terms of stability. However, in the end I would still use 0.95 Beta 1 over 0.95 RC2 just because of the ability to arrest people (it is no fun to play LCPD:FR if I can't arrest anyone...). Mostly every function in 0.95 RC2 works in 1.0.4.0 except for the arresting peds (which if you try to arrest a ped, the game will automatically crash from a script error). Mostly everything works in 0.95 Beta 1 too, except for calling NOOSE backups (known problem to 0.95 Beta 1 itself, not because of patch 1.0.4.0) and authorizing lethal force (infinite loop of a script error until the suspect is killed or lethal force is unauthorized, but this does not crash the game). Also as an FYI, make sure to never play the suicide missions, as they always cause the game to work improperly. Remember, I said 0.95 Beta 1 works almost flawlessly on 1.0.4.0, while 0.95 RC2 works great, except you cannot arrest anyone (as it causes an instant script error). Therefore, if you really want to use 0.95 RC2 on 1.0.4.0, keep in mind not to arrest anyone.

And lastly, ENBs will not interfere with the operation of LCPD:FR. They may interfere with ELS though, making the lights not as bright (or overly bright) due to the changed grapics settings. In such a case, a simple modification to the visualsettings.dat file will usually do the trick, although other flaws can't be fixed this way. To see proof of compatibility, you can to see screenshots which I took running LCPD:FR 0.95 Beta 1 on 1.0.4.0 with iCEnhancer 2.0.

Hope all of this helps you all! Have fun, and enjoy modding!

1.0.4.0 isn't supported, only 1.0.7.0.

EDIT: Although with enough demand 1.0.4.0 shouldn't be terribly difficult to support.

Yes, this is what I hope to see someday. That's why I posted these findings, to help you and your team optimize the mod for 1.0.4.0. Everything works fine with it except for arresting peds. I've played through all the missions and tested all the functions after playing for several hours. To my amazement, they all work properly, and not only that, they work much better than 0.91 and 1.0.4.0. It didn't even crash once! Whereas in 0.95 RC2 and 1.0.7.0, it would consistently crash during chases. It is just the arresting system; even the stop and search function works. If you guys can fix that or put back the arresting system that was in 0.95 Beta in the final release version, then there would be no problems at all with 0.95 RC2 and 1.0.4.0 as far as I can tell.

Keep up the great work!

I've been kinda looking into running 0.95 RC2 on 1.0.4 and this is what I have so far:

Scripthook 0.5.0.1 Doesnt work

Scripthook 0.5.1.0 Crash on startup

Scripthook 0.4.0.0 Crash at entering a police station

I am right there with Raggio. Same stuff happening for me. +1 for a 1.0.4.0 version.

I did hear in another thread that someone was saying the Beta 95 version ran best for 1.0.4.0. I cant confirm that since I dont have it, but I saw that on a few different occassions.

Does anyone have a link or an old copy of Beta .95 version? I would like to test this out for myself. Please let me know. Thanks.

You've just bumped a 3 month old topic.....

Would you have prefered I start a barnd new thread/topic on this or ask the right guys in the right place that will most likely know even if its 3 months old?

I found these by the good old google search. See if I didn't spending time searching on google and just posted a new topic everyone would be mad because I didn't do a search and research. Now I do a search and you are still not pleased. What should I do then?

He didn't bump, he responded to a thread. And since what he writes is relevant I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to post.

Thanks Break. Still on the lookout for a .95 Beta version and cant seem to find one anywhere online. So it looks like my best bet is if someone has a copy on their computer I can try it out and see if she runs. This topic has been helpful and I did get a lot of good info from it. Just want to keep adding to it and learning from it. Thanks guys for understanding.

I've been kinda looking into running 0.95 RC2 on 1.0.4 and this is what I have so far:

Scripthook 0.5.0.1 Doesnt work

Scripthook 0.5.1.0 Crash on startup

Scripthook 0.4.0.0 Crash at entering a police station

I've done a myriad of testing with different versions of ScriptHook.dll, ScriptHookDotNet.asi, and LCPD:FR, and I've posted most of my findings here already. I think I've stated this before, but 0.95 RC2 can actually run relatively well on 1.0.4.0, and it doesn't crash when entering a police station as you said (at least not for me). So if you crash entering a police station, you still have some incompatible files. The only time it does actually crash is when I try to arrest someone, due to the code being rewritten from 0.95 Beta 1. I've tried frisking, handing out tickets to parked cars, etc., basically all functions of LCPD:FR 0.95 RC2, and only arresting ever causes a script error. All vehicles, backups, etc. spawn correctly. Arresting works in 0.95 Beta 1, and that version has almost no problems on 1.0.4.0, except for the suicide missions. The suicide missions don't work for any version of LCPD:FR on 1.0.4.0, and usually causes police cars to spawn like crazy until the game crashes due to the system running out of memory.

Anyways, all you really need for the LCPD:FR (and most other mods) to work on 1.0.4.0 is ScriptHook.dll version 0.4.0, which can be found here. It's really that simple. This version of ScriptHook.dll works with the latest version of ScriptHookDotNet.asi (1.7.1.7 Beta), which can also be found here (and is NOT included with the latest LCPD:FR...the version which it installs is only 1.7.1.4 Beta), which does work with LCPD:FR.

I am right there with Raggio. Same stuff happening for me. +1 for a 1.0.4.0 version.

I did hear in another thread that someone was saying the Beta 95 version ran best for 1.0.4.0. I cant confirm that since I dont have it, but I saw that on a few different occassions.

I think that may mostly be me (and my signature), LOL, because only the older modders that originally made and ran mods mostly on 1.0.4.0 know about its benefits versus 1.0.7.0, sadly. Then newer modders found out after reading posts such as mine about its benefits, and started making mods that are compatible with all versions of the game. Again, the main benefits of using 1.0.4.0 versus 1.0.7.0 are better stability, performance, and (of course) graphics. I usually get no crashes with the vanilla game, and can get up to 80 FPS, whereas in 1.0.7.0, the game is prone to crashing if the settings are on the higher end, and I can only get about 40 FPS. Lastly, 1.0.4.0 doesn't have the graphical glitches, shadow stuttering, and disappearing texture problems that 1.0.7.0 intorduced. So if those aren't good enough reasons to use 1.0.4.0, there's also the reason that almost all ENBs were made for 1.0.4.0...

This topic has been helpful and I did get a lot of good info from it. Just want to keep adding to it and learning from it. Thanks guys for understanding.

I've posted all my findings on getting LCPD:FR (and other mods) to work on 1.0.4.0 and their behavior on that patch to the best of my abilities here in hopes that it will indeed help other users (and especially the development team) figure out how to make LCPD:FR compatible with 1.0.4.0. There are very little problems with 0.95 Beta 1 on 1.0.4.0, but much more with 0.95 RC2 on 1.0.4.0. I'm glad you were able to learn from it! I'm not sure what else can be added to it, but there's always room for improvement.

Raggio, you were absolutely right. Im using the beta with 1.0.4.0 and it works absolutely fine. I've been playing for an hour now with not crashes.

Now that I have mentioned that, I didn't notice something weird. When I activated the gun flashlight I got a script error. This then seemed to disable most options for me. I couldn't pull anyone over anymore with the shift. I could arrest but not frisk. Call outs no longer worked. But no crashes and that is awesome. I haven't had that in a long time.

Have you had error or bug before?

So I am seeing there is a conflic with my letter E with other mods. Is there any way to pick another letter in the FR.ini to arrest and access the computer? The ini seemed to have little to no options.

Edit: Also I cant seem to ever be able to frisk someone. I walk up to them and press E. This never works. Am I doning something wrong? If focus on the person with no weapon still nothing. Then if I aim my gun at him then my only option is to arrest them. Any helpful tips?

Yes, I know! I've been playing with it since it came out! I like the new features in 0.95 RC2, but I like the more stable and performance-friendly 1.0.4.0 version of GTA IV. So, I've made a compromise that makes me happy: play GTA IV 1.0.4.0 with 0.95 Beta 1 and EFLC 1.1.2.0 with 0.95 RC2. That way, I can switch between the two whenever I want, since they have the same mods installed and have almost everything (except the Indicator script, for example) working in both games. But hopefully, there will be a version someday that will work on all versions of GTA IV and EFLC.

I haven't encountered that flashlight problem before with using the LCPD:FR's flashlight. I rarely used it before since it was very unrealistic and unhelfpul, and now never again since I've discovered Flashlights 4 Weapons, which works wonders and moves with the gun! The LCPD:FR one only illuminates the ground around me, whereas this one acts as if a flashlight is attached to your weapon, which is sweet! To make it more realistic, I've modified all the positions in the flashlight.ini configuration file so that the lights come directly from the underbarrel flashlight attachments of the gun models that I use, increasing realism! I took a lot of time doing it through trial and error, but it was all worth it in the end!

Lastly, I have seen the error about "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" a myriad of times. It comes nonstop if you authorize lethal force when in a chase, and will only stop if you either unauthorize lethal force or kill the suspect. I think this error has something to do with the mod setting the suspect to start shooting at the police or something, as all pursuits that were supposed to turn into shootings as well never did, and the police usually never shoot at the suspect's vehicle while in pursuit. However, I don't have it when pulling someone over, as your error originates from, and I don't believe I have errors with any other mission other than the suicide missions. Again, they don't generate script errors, just initiate an infinite supply of police cars until the game crashes.

So I am seeing there is a conflic with my letter E with other mods. Is there any way to pick another letter in the FR.ini to arrest and access the computer? The ini seemed to have little to no options.

There used to be key customizations in the .ini configuration file, but those options were taken away ever since verison 0.95 came out. And also, the new features with a menu for "E" that includes holding suspects, frisking suspects, etc. only appears for the 0.95 RC2 version. (I thought you were still trying out the 0.95 Beta 1 version?) In 0.95 Beta 1, you can only frisk peds using the old method, which is by pressing "ALT+R," and then "Y."

Oh nice, I didn't know it was Alt R. Thank you so much. I am still using .95 Beta 1 and it works so great. Thanks Tom and Raggio for answering my questions.

On another note, I accidently hit ctrl P to activate FR and it says "Forced Duty". What does this do and mean?

Edit: Okay so I have tried the Alt R and it works but only sometimes. I run up to someone and press Alt R and nothing happens. So I aim my gun at them and hit Alt R and nothing happens so I aim and then hit E. The ped goes into arrest mode. Then I hit Alt R and then at the bottom of my screen it says press Y to get him to stop. He's already stopped. Then after I hit Y many times moving around until it works then it says Press Sprint to frisk him. This is weird and I usually have to do a run attach move toward the guy sprinting at him ending right infront of him to then begin to frisk him. If I turn and sprint in the other direction it he begins to frisk the air. So whats the best way to do this?

You're welcome! Glad to help you out!

"Forcing duty" just means you are forcing the mod to start without going into a police station and choosing your ped and vehicle. This may bring up bugs, since some settings may not be applied by forcing duty compared to starting the mod the normal way. And also keep in mind that this is only a developer function, and will be removed in the final release version.

Edit: Okay so I have tried the Alt R and it works but only sometimes. I run up to someone and press Alt R and nothing happens. What you are experiencing is the normal operation of the older method of frisking, which has since been changed in 0.95 RC2, so don't worry. It sometimes takes multiple tries (spamming the buttons work best) until the mod recognizes and initiates the frisking process to the nearest ped. Yes, you do have to run towards the ped to actually frisk him or her, and if you "miss," you'll look like you're frisking the air. The entire process has been improved in 0.95 RC2 so you have a smooth transition from the "E" menu, to the frisking option, to the animations. It's not nearly as smooth of a process as it is in 0.95 Beta 1, but hey, at least frisking was intorduced and works relatively well in 0.95 Beta 1!

By the way, here's a little tidbit since you appear to not know some of the functions of 0.95 Beta 1. If you want to open your police car's trunk to get armor and ammo, just face it and press "F4" (which was changed to "E" in 0.95 RC2), and your ped will open up the trunk! Just something useful to keep in mind while on duty in 0.95 Beta 1!
