Ticket Time

Featured Replies

so you basicly asked him to modify his files but you dont have an idea where to start? why did you asked him in the first place then? (not trying to be rude or anything)

^That. If you ask someone for modifying their files, at least know what you're doing to at least not ruin their work and give them a bad reputation.

Anyone want to enlighten my as to what "Ticket Time" is?

It's a WIP script by FinKone. It allows to have real pictures of ID, insurance, registration for a traffic stop. Here it is in action (skip to 2:50):

Ok to all of the neg heads. I got his permission to try. Lets stop acting as if its weird to try and learn, and for the record is not that I couldn't do it, I just didn't recognize the way it was coded and used a different program.  Now here's a question for all of you, Does it hurt to pass constructive criticism, or does it just feel better to be a arse?

There's nothing wrong with what everyone is asking here. In your original post, you made it sound like you told him you'd help with the project, and had no idea what to do. Everyone is correct in saying that is ridiculous.

It's like heading over to an open source OS and asking if you can start creating their graphics drivers, despite not knowing how to do so.

If you don't know how to code, then don't join a project. It's simple. Instead, start your own project and practice till you are good enough to help someone else.

I myself am a programmer, and understand that everyone needs to start somewhere. But if you are new to it, this would not be the way to begin, especially if he'll be using the code you create.

I've mentored some newbie developers at work, and I'll be honest, their code is shit, just as mine was when I first began. It would be extremely ridiculous to try and expect your first bit of coding experience to be used in a live project that will be made public.

Stick to your own projects till you're ready.

First off you are in no moral position to tell me what to stick to especially seeing that I had permission from the owner himself to try and edit the project.

Next to assume that I know absolutely nothing about coding is stupid, if i knew nothing about it, why would I ask? I was referring to ticket time itself.

Now what you should do is pay attention to the question, I asked for help from people who knew a thing or two about coding. I did not ask for personal opinions. if what you're speaking doesn't meet the  criteria of what I asked its null, and you are personally being a jack rabbit.

You asked for advice, and I gave it. It's my personal opinion on how to progress when learning to code. As part of my job, I help mentor the new developers. Guess what! none of them jump straight into live projects!

Anyone can get permission to do anything, doesn't mean that they should.

Of course I'm going to assume that you have no experience in coding. You did not mention otherwise and people aren't just born with coding skills. Unless you tell me otherwise, I'm going to assume you have no experience in the field.

I for one, do know a little thing or two about coding, since it's my job. I don't care whether or not you asked for personal opinions, it's a public discussions forum. You're going to run into opinions every now and then.

I'm not going to continue in this debate. I hope you do well with the project, you seem to be making lots of friends with your friendly attitude.

Have a nice day.

By building your sentences poorly, you make people reacting that way. -Nowhere- in your initial post it is mentioned that you have trouble recognizing the way it was coded. You ask for help but you don't provide any info on what you need, don't complain if people bark at you for that (especially if people take into account your past topics and posts and the way you act on this very website).

Now what you should do is pay attention to the question, I asked for help from people who knew a thing or two about coding. I did not ask for personal opinions. if what you're speaking doesn't meet the  criteria of what I asked its null, and you are personally being a jack rabbit.

You never stated that you asked for help from other people. What we got from your post is that you have this code but you have no clue how to do it, so you need help with it. Alcon can question it if he wants to, same for all the other people. It may be that you didn't ask for opinions, but they're just trying to warn you. Would I go into 3D modeling just by downloading 3DS Max and not having a clue what the hell I'm doing? No, I wouldn't. I believe with what you responded with makes you, more of a "jack rabbit" than Alcon.

As others have said, if you're unfamiliar about how to go about it I would try to work with the creator of the program as well as reviewing the coding language with Khan Academy or something similar.
