Hearts of Iron IV!

This is probably the game I'm excited for the most, from swedish developers Paradox Interactive who have made other brilliant strategy games such as Crusader Kings, Cities in Motion and Europa Universalis comes

 HOI4_wiki_logo.png

It's a grand strategy game which puts you in the front seat of WW2 as any nation which existed through the period of 1936-1945.

You can control politics, military technology and production, spy on other countries and steal their blueprints, organize your armies and of course battle with them.

Just want to know what people think about this game or the series, personally I love strategy games and I also love the games from Paradox.

I'm sure the game must be nice, but the first thing that comes into my mind is "God again a WWII period game, why, whyyyy". It would be so much fun (and much more interesting IMO) to use other periods of conflict like the Cold War or something.

They were going to actually, it was going to be called East vs West but it was cancelled.

Europa Universalis is between 1444 and the 1700's I think, then there's Victoria which is in the Victorian age.

It's Paradox, start learning how to mod and then you can just create your own version of the game. The part that i don't understand is that you seem to be suprised that a game called 'Hearts of Iron' is yet again during WW2 era.

You want to use the Cold War as a base for a wargame? Do you even know what happened during the Cold War? Exactly, nothing. So it's pretty obvious why people are reluctant in making Cold War games. (If you still want a Cold War era game but with complete wars and all that, its totally fictional so Paradox is the last dev you should wait for to make it.)

1/ No need to get aggressive, I was just saying my opinion, which is the purpose of this thread as far as I'm concerned

2/ Considering this game is about controlling armies, forces, politics, military technology and production, spy on other countries, steal their blueprints, etc, I think it's actually fitting -perfectly- the Cold War theme. If you think nothing happened during the Cold War, I invite you to gather some information about it. Because as far as I remember from my History class, Cold War was all about politics, military technology (Arms race, nuclear weapon experimentations and development), spying on each other etc. Without talking about the underlying conflicts to the Cold War like Korea or Vietnam.

3/ Additionally, since this game would pretty much create alternate endings to WWII according to what side you're impersonating (if it doesn't, what's the point of playing a game where you know who will win no matter what?), I see nothing wrong about doing the same with the Cold War where either the Western or Eastern block would have won.

4/ I was stating the fact that this era has been overused again and again by hundreds of games and game developers should move on to something more unique and exotic.

Just saying.

The game has established itself as a WW2 game. It's garnished a bit of a cult following. But there are always mods that make it pretty much whatever era you'd like. Try playing HOI3 and you'll see that the core game play and heart of the game just wouldn't work with a Cold War era game.

Personally a WW1 game would be better.

Paradox was working on a HOI based game set in Cold War period called East vs. West but it got cancelled. You can download a leaked alpha version but it's not really playable.

It is playable, but you'll have to learn the new interface, like in most Paradox games.

I have a playable version if anyone wants to try it out.
