I use Microsoft Security Essentials, avast! and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Malwarebytes will practically remove any type of malware so it's an extremely valuable software to have installed. The free version doesn't automatically update or scan though, which is why I run it in conjunction with avast!.

  • I'd recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (click to go to the download page). It is an excellent all-round antivirus package. It comes with all of the essential things to keep your computer safe.

iv tried Norton, Avast, Macfee and Semantec, but Kaspersky is the best hands down. if you dont do anything stupid on the internet, you will never have a problem.  i havent had a virus or anything in years. few malwares that i could easily get out but never anything major.

Any reputable free antivirus and malwarebytes pro will do.  However you should never have two antivirus programs installed at once.  You might have the best antivirus available, but it's not going to stop you from doing something foolish online that could give you a virus.  You need to be smart and in the end it's going to be YOU who keeps your computer rid of those pests.

I use AVG and Malwarebytes and they both work exceptionally well. It's totally up to your preference what software you choose, as there are many great free ones.

I use superantispyware and I love it. Removes toolbars and updates often.

I recommend Avast (review here) and Malwarebytes to everyone and anyone. I do not suggest using one without the other, Avast is an antivirus whilst Malwarebytes is antimalware.

Some people complain about avast being annoying with its voice, so I refer them to here:
