[WIP] "MyNYPD UHD" - An Ultra High Definition Texture Megapack

This is an idea that I've been toying around with for a long time now and I have finally decided to go through with it. My goal for this megapack is to create accurate, ultra high definition textures (4K resolution) for a large variety of vehicles featuring the New York City Police Department. This is quite easily the largest project that I have started, so it is going to take a while. Between classes and other commitments, I anticipate this taking at least a month.

Textures in this pack will be specifically optimized for the vehicles linked. Below is a general "development map" of the megapack. I will possibly be adding more vehicles as I go along, depending on the availability and time (PS: If anyone knows of a good ELS, NYPD spec Ford Police Interceptor, please let me know). As it stands, there will be a total of 35 skins. Multiple unit numbers will be provided as long as the model supports it. Because running with UHD textures can cause texture loss and memory loss, I will also include "standard" resolution textures for lower end systems.

  • Ok guys, I have decided to go through with it. Here are some WIP shots. First up is, of course, the CVPI.

  • 2011 Chevy Impala:           Up next will be the Ford Fusion.

  • The Ford Fusion!     Additional updates: Rear unit markings have been fixed since I had the passenger side markings reversed. Also, as I begin to prepare for the first exams of the semester, pro

well i'll be honest i don't know how to replace textures yet but i am learning. currently i am using all nypd models in my game and i'm sure i'd be interested in using this eventually. i'm not sure about non-els cars but i'd try them out if they were very sexy probably :pirate:

Well, a good NYPD spec Ford Interceptor is the one that was made by iconic rainbow. The problem with that vehicle was 1) there are only two skins 2) the dirt texturing for the car wasn't done very well, so after a while the whole car just turns grey. If you contact him/her perhaps they'd be willing to allow you to create four skins and redo the dirt texture.

Good luck!

I look forward to the pack once released.

Thanks alot for this, I've been stuck with LCPD textures for a while and this looks great, Just wanted to let you know, This will be used by me! And i do have a youtube channel so i will include the link down below :P

Thanks again for this :)

Thar's not really good since it has quite some bugs & the emissives are way too dim. The textures don't need changing, you just import 2 more. If you want the car to have 2 liveries only you just don't import more.

If you want my attention, quote me.

Agree with that, the emissive lights are almost invisible during day time with that model, which is a bit sad considering the model itself looks good.

Problem is, to be brutally honest, thats the only NYPD spec Interceptor, unless someone is going to make a better one and release it, its what we've got, furthermore the model itself is actually really good. So far I believe its better than Dodgeboy's Interceptor, but yes it has some faults which aren't easily corrected, the problem isn't really the textures, as you said thats a very easy fix, but the dirt modelling and the emissives (which I'm assuming mean the brightness of the lights) are complex issues which probably require the model to be unlocked.

Oooh, I like that one. Thanks. OP updated.

Also, here are some new WIP screenshots:

In addition to the Auxiliary variant, I also fixed up the lines and made them more smooth, especially towards the front of the car. Thoughts? Comments?

I wonder, why not using BxBugs Charger ( http://gtapolicemods.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2607) instead of that old Charger using a led lightbar? The template is the same I think and it looks a lot more like the actual NYPD unit with the led board.

I had no idea that existed. Adding to OP now.

GTA IV and 4K textures? Sounds like a great way to have your map downgrade and have taxis spawn in place of all other traffic.

^^

For the longest while I tried keeping my game as close to vanilla as possible because of the taxi bug. 4k textures seems like it'd be a mess in a game that already suffers from poor memory management.

I'd like to see a side by side comparison just for kicks between the default moded texture and the 4k. See just how noticeable a difference it really makes.

I address this very issue in my original post, which is why I'm including regular resolution textures. No one is telling you to use the 4K textures on your cars if you are running into memory problems. They are there as an option.

Gladly.

Looks great, if you need any models made, contact me.

I should be alright for now, but thanks for offering. I appreciate it.

That's a pretty big difference, much more than I would have thought. I'm honestly mind blown for the moment, 4096x4096 is a decent sized image. I was thinking you'd hit diminishing returns after a certain size for a small car that's being rendered on a TV Screen/Monitor. The same 2048 image blown up in a photoeditor would show NYPD covering the entire screen with no distortion, you'd have to be zoomed in on the actual letter its self before you'd start seeing jagged pixels like that..

*Edit

I'm retarded, after thinking about it some more I realized that in actuality what happens with the reference images is much different in that the actual sample size for the NYPD panel is closer to 300x120 for the 2048x2048 layout. In the 3D environment the closer you get to it the more that small image is going to pixelate as it's being forced into a much larger size as indicated by screen resolution.

So 300x120 becomes 1920x1080 for example.
