Ok, this is for anyone intrested in 3dModeling. I am by no means an expert at it, and I am constantly learning something new. I will used this as a guide on how to model a vehicle. If someone with more experience are know-how wants to fill in/add something, by all means, DO SO! :D Now, I started 3d modeling with a program called FSDS for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and within the past year and a half started working in both GMax and 3dsMax. The biggest thing to remember is that all object use basic geometry (Spheres, Tubes, Boxes) After searching youtube.com I came across a tutorial of modeling a Mustang. It was very straight forward.

Let's start with the first and most very important step....the 3 views....Google is your friend when it comes to this....Search for car blueprints or 3 views. Now everyone has their own method of doing this, but the method I use is to split the 3 view up into 3 different files. I then crop the images so that the images are only of the line drawing.

What I then did, using the tutorial is start with a tube on the x axis, and deleting everything but the cap. I moved the circle poly to a wheel well, converted the poly to a editable mesh, and extruded the edges, welding the verticies as I went along.

It takes time, but after you get used to it, you start to think three dimensionally

Your welcome guys! I will try to start a fresh project and try to be a little more thorough. I want to stress that this is only the 3d modeling part...not the exporting into GTA or whatever.

BTW guys...just call me Nate. ;)

+1,er...Nate.But don't you think industry is done with editable mesh,now? Editable poly is more in use nowadays.Mesh is an ancient technique.Yes it still persists,but...anyhow.Nice tut :thumbsup:

Here is a little trick I learned in GMax....if you invert the 3 view drawings (CTL I in paint I believe) so the the background is black instead of white, and load it into the opacity slot in the material editor we will get a result like this...I haven't tried it in 3dsMax yet, but it 'should' produce the same results.

Heard OpenIV is better when modelling Police Cars...?

Err, Open IV is a tool to add game files to the games directory, Tools like 3ds max, Zmodeler etc are meant for modeling.

Also, OpenIV has openFormats for .wft (I think), but no modding software supports it. Instead, you *have* to use ZModeler for import/export to GTA. There is literally no alternative available to the modding community (I'm pretty sure that, say, Rockstar can export from Blender/3ds max/whatever they use). 3ds max is commonly used, and you can make models in it! You can then export to ZModeler, and take it from there to GTA! OpenIV is not at all necessary!
