War on terror

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so i'm a little confused. Now i've been hearing stories that we're still fighting it, but i'm not sure how true this is, but is the U.S still fighting the war on terror (ie. that war that started ever since 9/11)

The War on Terror fear tactic is still a thing, but I have my doubts as to the potential for any lasting successes in this "war." As long as the U.S. remains involved in the affairs of the Middle East, I see no end in sight. Our staunch support of Israel, our backing of the Saudis, and continual intervention in the region will never allow this "war" to end.

As a United States Marine who served two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I can tell you that for those of us who have seen the war first-hand, it is not over.  In fact, I am facing yet another deployment over to the Middle East due to the conflict in Syria that has erupted.  So no, the War on Terror is not over.

Well then in that case I'll give my opinion on this war. Personally I do not support it at all, primarily because it's bogus and hasn't benefited anyone, thousands of civilians have died as a result from the monsterous war and we've spent way too much money on the war, what's the point it's been fourteen years since 9/11 and we're still fighting it? This war on terror is a load of BS in my opinion.

What do you guys think of the war on terror?

It's garbage, along with every other ass hat at the pentagon that supports it.

If they can irradicate ISIS that would be just peachy.

I think it would be selfish to stand by watching as terrorists kill people every day. I think the brave men and women that have gone over there are doing the Middle Eastern counties a great favor. It's like watching your neighbor from your window get shot and killed and you not doing anything about it.  Also, when this group of terrorists crashes jets into the twin towers, we are going to retaliate.

People seem to constantly underestimate the power of the United States. It's been a while since the United States was in a total-war state. When the US is pissed, things get real ugly real fast.

And when I say total-war, I mean all money is going to the war funds, all men are signing up in the military, massive troop deployments, air raids, nuclear weapons at the ready, deployment of an entire fleet of ships, etc.

This whole war is pointless too many innocents have died as a result of this war, also 9/11 was fourteen years ago, we already killed enough terrorists and there is no point to still be in Iraq.

Oh, it's definitely benefited people. Where would our poor military-industrial complex be without it?

I'am bit confused, are you talking about the money that's been made from the war or the increased military power of the US?

Just like I said, it's like watching your neighbor get killed and not doing anything about it. It's extremely arrogant (in my opinion) to say that we shouldn't be helping them because it's "none of our business". Sure, it may not be, but it's common courtesy to help out when innocent people are being killed. And now that ISIS is around beheading U.S and ally journalists, we need to do something.

Now that's rather hypocrite. Do you think that before the Twin Towers, no innocent was killed in the world, especially in this area? Before the 9/11, no one in the american government (and probably in the population) gave a damn about what was happening in those countries. The US decided to go on this crusade only because they've been exposed as weak to the world after they got struck on their own lands, a dramatic event never seen before. When a bull gets its testicles pinched, it kicks out and tries to show it's still strong, even though it looks desperate. That's what the US did by turning Iraq (and its neighbours on a larger scale) in the mess we know today, by overreacting without thinking twice about consequences.

You're right, we do need to do something about ISIS.  That's why in a little over one week I will more than likely be getting deployed back over to the Middle East.  Do I want to go?  Heck no.  I'll be missing Christmas with my family...again (deployment is scheduled for 23 Dec).  But do I feel I need to go to (hopefully) bring peace to an already violent land so that maybe (just maybe) the people in Syria and the rest of the Middle East can enjoy a peaceful holiday week and live to see the New Year?  Yes.

I never said that we shouldn't have been involved before 9/11. So I do not see how I am a hypocrite. I think it was brought to our attention the most when 9/11 occurred, and that is when we had to get involved.

I wish you the best of luck and hope for a safe return. I appreciate your sacrifice for the good of the harmless citizens of the middle east. Those people need protection that their home countries fail to offer. Luckily, we have a great military prepared for this situations. Thanks you, sir.

I must say sir you're very brave and courageous to do this, may you come back home safely. I agree that ISIS should be eradicated I (I would say that another country should go and fight ISIS, but I sound unfair to say that) unless there is a straightforward plan to destroy ISIS, then I see no point in being in Iraq.

After the 9/11 attacks the American population was devastated and pissed. We lost 3,000 innocent people in the blink of an eye, and no one could do a thing about it. The United States isn't responsible for initiating chaos in the middle east, Islam is. Also, it's kind of hard to overreact when 3,000 civilians are killed in a single day on their own land; in a developed country; and the terrorists barely missed their target of taking out the president and our entire military leadership team..

wait..you said the terrorists barely missed the president? wait what? dude...the president was in a class room in florida reading a book my pet goat upside down while they were chanting plane must hit kite steel...and you want to debate 911 with me? erm are you sure about that buddy?

It's very frustrating when the individual you're attempting to debate with takes everything in a very literal sense, without the use of critical thinking. The plane was headed directly towards the White House, which is why I said they barely missed killing the President. What if the President had been in the White House? What if the crew on the plane weren't as confident to revolt?
