Executive Action On Immigration, United States

Executive action on immigration. What does that mean exactly?

It's a way for the president to make a major change to immigration policy without consulting Congress, and this one could ease the fears of many undocumented immigrants … for now.

In an announcement on Thursday, President Obama unveiled a reform plan that will allow 5 million undocumented immigrants to stay in the United States without having to worry about getting deported.

=====================================================================================================================
LISTED BELOW are several of the arguments that have been used by misguided people to try and justify illegal immigration. Next to each is the reason why that argument has no merit.

They are an economic necessity - Not true. The idea that a bunch of desperately poor, uneducated, unskilled, non-English speaking foreigners are an economic necessity is ludicrous. In fact, when you compare cost vs. benefit, it is obvious that they are not only NOT a necessity, they are not even an asset. Rather, they are a liability and a huge one at that.

They do work Americans won’t do - Not true. They do work Americans won’t do for $7 an hour (especially if Americans can collect welfare and unemployment instead). Of course, if you got rid of the illegals, the jobs wouldn’t pay $7 an hour. The people who wanted the work done would have to pay a wage that was attractive enough to get Americans to do the work. And it might even be enough to get Americans off the unemployment and welfare dole and back into the taxpaying workforce!

We benefit from all that “cheap” labor - This is nonsense. The only people who benefit from the cheap labor are the unscrupulous people who hire illegal immigrants. Taxpayers are left holding the bag. Ultimately, it is they who must pay to support all the Americans who have been put out of work by illegals and must also provide billions of dollars in services and benefits to the illegals themselves.

They are just trying to make better lives - Aren’t we all? The difference is that most of us understand that we DO NOT have a right to acquire by illegal means those things that we find difficult to acquire by legal means. And we certainly don’t have the right to do it in a foreign country.

It is impossible to round up and deport the illegals - We don’t have to. All we have to do is remove the incentives that brought them here in the first place. No jobs. No housing. No taxpayer financed services or benefits (including education). Once we remove the incentives that brought them here, they will leave on their own.

Immigration control is racist / xenophobic - This is just another play of the race card by people who have no other cards to play. Immigration control is the world-wide status quo. There is nothing racist about it. Furthermore, the USA welcomes LEGAL immigrants of all races and ethnicities from all over the world who have gone through the legal immigration process. This is not just a bad argument, it is an attempt to create racial hatred and division.

We are a nation of immigrants - This is the “BIG LIE”. The vast majority of Americans are native-born. I am not an immigrant. Nor were my parents. Nor were my grandparents. We are a nation that has, historically, allowed and even encouraged LEGAL immigration. And we continue to do so. The issue at hand is illegal immigration, which has nothing to do with legal immigration.

They are people. We must treat them humanely - Yes & yes. But lets not pretend like they are victims who were dragged here kicking and screaming against their will. Nothing could be further from the truth. They came of their own free will and for their own benefit and they broke the law to do it. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED FOR BREAKING LAWS AND COMMITTING CRIMES. SENDING THEM HOME IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. There is nothing “draconian” or “mean-spirited” about it.

It is wrong to break up families - Yes. Unfortunately, families are often broken up by criminal activity. If you don’t believe it, just drop by any prison or jail on visiting day. We can’t keep families together if some family members choose to participate in criminal activity.

They work & contribute to our society - So do I. And if I break the law and commit crimes, I can expect to pay a penalty of some kind. Anything from a small fine to the death penalty. I do not receive a reward. WHY SHOULD WE TREAT FOREIGN CRIMINALS BETTER THAN OUR OWN CITIZENS?

If I could like your post ten times I would, this is exactly why I'am against illegal immigration, you know someone called me a racist because I was against it. Listen we just don't have enough room for them this is going to overpopulate the United States and giving us more people than we need, and what's Obama doing about it, nothing "oh let's just let them live here, it'll be fine" I worry about this because now, am I ever going to get a job as a computer scientist now that we have all these immigrants?

Just because you were born in America DOES NOT MEAN YOU WERE NATIVE BORN. You would have to be aboriginal to be native born, and there are VERY little aboriginal people left, and most "aboriginal" people nowadays are only a certain percent aboriginal. Most Americans are of European descent. For example, I'm only about 5% aboriginal and a huge mix of about 6 other nationalities, all European. Yes, I know I'm Canadian but there's practically no difference descent-wise.

However, I do agree that immigrants should have to do it the legal way, of course, but I think Obama is in a way doing some beneficial here and Americans should stop acting like this means that you`re going to be overrun by Mexicans and that it's the end of the world. I understand the concern revolving around having foreigners in your country, I really do, but you should really look at the situation from their side - would you rather be in the absolute mess we call Mexico City, or America? Most of them don't have the money/knowledge on how to legally immigrate to the States.

Being born in America does mean that you were native born. Just because we aren't all native Americans doesn't mean that we aren't native born. We were born here, so that makes us Americans. It's a political ideology that needs to be fixed, illegal immigrants flood America and have children so that they are native born citizens.

Hate to put it in such blunt terms, but we Americans don't care about their situation. We aren't going to economically harm ourselves to aid in a mass of illegal immigrants flooding our country, just to commit crime and expect to live for free. If you want to come into America, do it the right way. The majority of Americans support legal immigration. We don't act like we're going to be flooded by Mexicans, because we ARE being flooded by Mexicans. Not only Mexicans, but there are 12+ million illegals in the United States as of 2012. Not sure if this has changed, but that's a lot of people. If they aren't educated enough to immigrate into the United States legally, then that's their problem. We aren't going to hold peoples hands.

How do you think Canada would respond to millions of Americans running across their border demanding free stuff and committing crime?

Well nope. Actually, your ancestors did the same, they came on the American continent and created a family so the children would be native born citizens. You are NOT americans in the first place, you are United States citizens. American stands for the America continent (North and South), just like Asian for Asia and European for Europe. Mexican people are just as American as you. However, they are not US citizens, the difference is there.

That said, immigration is a problem for every developed country, that's a fact, we all have thousands of people coming to try to get a better life, some by doing something good, some by doing something wrong. But there are other ways to deal with immigration. Let's think a little. Why do people want to immigrate in our countries? Because we claim everywhere to everyone "My country is so awesome, we live nice and stuff". Immigrants hear of this, and hope to live the same way, so they come. So, if citizens of developed countries decided to stop bragging about their countries (including the governments), maybe foreigner people wouldn't dream to come and live there. And I believe that US citizens are probably the champions in this category, considering how proud they are to be 'muricans and claiming everywhere and at the face of everyone how their country is the land of the free, the country of freedom and all. Stop dragging attention, and people will stop looking at you, as simple as that.

That isn't the least bit true, but this discussion is on illegal immigration. Not whether or not we're actually native born, so let's stick to the topic at hand.

Again, this is not true at all. This is something called "Propaganda", with which a lot of Europeans tend to believe as true when it comes to the United States. Americans are proud of the rights we have, and the freedom of choice. We believe that we're the best nation on Earth, it's your fault if you actually accept it as true so naively. Generally in America if I work, good living conditions will follow. You just can't say that about a lot of other countries, making America appear to be the greatest nation on Earth, simply because we have one of the larger populations and land masses on Earth. An easy example of reversed propaganda, would be Paris being one of the safest, most popular cities in the world. This isn't all that true, but a lot of Americans deem it true. However what you've recognized has nothing to do with illegal immigration, that's a topic on why immigrants come into the United States. We're discussing illegal immigration and how they hurt the American economy, not reasoning for immigration.

You are aware that a large majority of illegals work in agriculture...? Last I checked agriculture has nothing to do with computer science . Let them take "our jobs!

When it was old history, everything was illegal and based on brute force. Romans made their empire on the force. Europeans arrived to America and forcefully conquered Indians. No one was legal.

But that's history. It used to be that the one who has more force had the right to take your possessions. It used to be the God's will found in ordeals.

We ain't 'back in the day'. So it's no point in saying 'no one is native in America'. When Europeans first arrived there, it was nothing. Now it's the #1 Economy, #1 Army, one of the best high education systems, and so on.

I want to live in America, and to do this, I must pay enormous tuition fees, then study like hell to prove I'm good enough to deserve a chance to work in this country. Currently I can't do that. I just don't get it why someone who only manages to cross a border should get this privilege.

Finally someone with a bit of common sense.

obama is acting against the will of the people you can NOT use executive actions like a dictator bypassing congress...this will be the final nail in the coffin for the united states and it will soon be called the north American union with mexico and canada being merged as well as no constitution with it that's all what this is about if you cant comprehend that then you live in a cave oh and this will also destroy the economy...enjoy your "change"

Aboriginal people lived here far before the Europeans got here. The Europeans started to immigrate and kill off the aboriginal people for land. The chances that you are Aboriginal are extremely low, and therefore your family were in fact immigrants to the United States. Yes, you are technically native born, I correct myself. But the fact remains that your entire family immigrated here at some point and likely killed off thousands of people to do so. But, that's beside the point.

You guys do in fact flaunt your shit to everyone - Hystery is correct. Do I think that is the cause for immigration solely? No.

I will admit my opinion has been slightly swayed but I still stand beside Obama on this one. Immigrants should have to go through the legal process, sure, but they're already in the States, do you really think that the US has the resources to round up 12+ million illegal immigrants and plop them right back into Mexico? The situation stands that they are already there in that it's going to be worse if they are there illegally rather than if they are there legally.

And is it really your belief that Mexicans are going to be responsible for the destruction of your already messed up economy?

I can tell that you didn't even read the first sentence of my original post. Once you've read that, come back with updated information. I'm not going to redundantly state what I've said. Self deportation is an easy solution.

No, I read it. I just found it absurd how you think you can just get rid of housing and jobs, it doesn't work like that. They will find jobs. They will find homes. I actually laughed at how you thought that could possibly be an option.

  • Are most American's lazy, and expect more pay than immigrants....Yes
  •
  • Does this give immigrants to come to our country illegally....No
  •
  • Should immigrants be allowed to come to our country to work for five or so years, collect a descent amount of money and move back to their homeland.....No

I'm all for immigrants to come to the US, as long as they do it the legal way....and if they know English (i should have to know their language if they're coming to my country)
