Advice on a New Headset

Recommended Posts

Evening folks,

Ok so I'm looking to get a new headset soon/for christmas, but I have quite a problem that I'm hoping others can help me with.

I currently have a Turtle Beach Earforce P11 (The red one they designed for PS3). The quality isn't great, but it's not terrible either, the issue is I wear glasses. After 30 minutes or more of wearing the headset the glasses I wear pretty much become embedded into the side of my skull, this is extremely painful.

No, I can't get contact lenses before you suggest that, 1) I can't stand them, and 2) I only need glasses for reading/being at a computer (longsighted).

I'm looking to get something with better quality sound, but also is comfortable and preferably over ear headphones rather than in-ear ones. It also needs to have a long enough cable to reach my pc and needs to have a reasonable mic with it.

I'd say money is no object but to limit the amount of gold plated, diamond encrusted headsets or stupidly expensive professional audio kits I'm going to say anything < £150.

Any advice on good headsets is appreciated, but preferably advice from those of you who happen to wear glasses would be beneficial.

Cheers.

The only ones I'm familiar with are the Logitech G35's.  As a fellow glasses wearer (when not using my contacts), I have yet to experience any discomfort from them.  However, as I've raged about mentioned to you a few times, the software that comes with them is a bit of a pain if you frequently use Suspend/Sleep when not using your system.  The software seems to bug out and then applications will fail to load or other unfortunate events will occur.  If you just shut your computer down instead (as I've had to do), then they work flawlessly.  Don't expect any fixes, logitech has known about this for a few years and has done nothing.

I would recommend the Steel Series Siberia V2, flawless headset. I've had multiple issues with other headsets (Turtle Beaches and Razer). I would say these are the best I've had, the audio quality is great and the voice is good on it.

I used to have Turtlebeach Earforce ZLa, until i upgraded to Razer Charichas, the quality of sound is great, the headset also includes a bass setting (like an audio slider) which can be changed. The only problem i have had with these headsets is the buzzing/fuzzy noise when your not playing audio. other than that i love this headset.

And it fits nice and comfortably with glasses too, since the ear pieces are a foamy cushion it really doesn't effect the way your wear your glasses. I have used glasses with it a couple times and i haven't had any problems with them (i wear glasses except being at my PC since they give me a headache otherwise)

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

I'd recommend the Razer Kraken Pro, my friend uses it and I've tried his before and it's just great. Sound is crisp, it's comfortable, and has a pretty decent mic. I am going to pick up one of my own soon.

I use a Razer Carcharias headset, they're a little dated now but they're really comfortable and have excellent sound and bass quality. My only gripe is that lint often gets stuck to the velvet padding and you can't turn off the lights on the side of the headphones unless you unplug the headset from your PC, which is extremely irritating as they remain on even if you shut-down your computer. Some people have reported a buzzing noise when not playing audio, I've had my headset for about 3-4 months and have not noticed this. I have noticed it on some of my Turtle Beach headsets though, so I guess it comes down to your sound card and audio jacks.

With all that being said, I've been through a lot of different headsets and the Carcharias is by far my favourite.

I use a Logitech G430 7.1 that a friend gave me a few months back. Pretty great headphones, with nice Bass (since I listen to music half the time when I'm not playing).

Only gripe is I can't really use the external 7.1 sound card jack. People are having problems with the external sound card jack since a long time, & it isn't fixed.

But I've got Dolby Advanced Audio, so that fixes that to an extent.  Still, it's a great set of headphones (with memory foam on the ear muffs) & it matches my laptop's blue color ^-^

Being a fellow 'glasser', I would recommend when you buy the headphones, to check that the Ear muffs are square, not circular. I find square ones to nicely cup around the ears, giving space for your glasses to get thru & sit comfortably.

If my post made you laugh (or giggle) in any way, smash that blue grey "Like this" button & like it

I went the cheap route and bought myself a pair of Turtlebeach X12s to use between my PC, 360, and Xbox One. I have worn them for 9+ hours before and never really had any issues with them pushing my glasses into mein kopf. The wires are pretty irritating, the sound quality isn't as good as the higher priced headsets, but then again, the X12s are like $50 USD. I don't mind them, I find that they are good enough for myself, and I mostly listen to music if I'm not playing games on my PC. I will eventually upgrade to more expensive headsets, but in the meantime, these seem to do the job just fine.
