5 crazy ways social media is affecting your brain right now

Featured Replies

I think people (know this for a fact at my school) use technology (phones mostly) WAYYYYY to much...I've never really been on of those peoples, in fact I have a old slider phone...and guess what....it's a phone, I can make calls and text.....and i'm still living. People seem to think they need a Smart phone or iphone to live, but they really don't.

I would also say people (from what can tell Americans, cause I only see Americans) are becoming dumber...Now I can't say it's because of technology, but it seemed to happen at a much faster rate ever since them smart phones came out.

Oh yeah, I got a lot to say about this subject...lol

I don't use social media at all anymore, and I get VERY annoyed when sites change their look to look more 'social media'. I chose not to use it, So I should not have to be subjected to a copycat layout.

I'm one of those guys that hate social media, and everyone at my school is addicted to that crap. So much, to the point where people have made instagrams, with random pics of me. I was also "forced" to make a facebook to make these freakin people happy. I'm more face to face, skype, texting and good old fashion messenger pigeons.

I go on FB to look at the cool towing pages & look at the pointless irrelevant crap that people post that makes them look stupid, it's unreal the stuff people won't post about themselves....

The only social media site I use is Facebook but even then I only use it to like pages for upcoming TV shows and movies so I am notified when they start airing. As for phones, I haven't had credit on mine for over a year and it's only there to call triple zero in case of an emergency.

Not big on social media, texting, calling, skyping, or hand gestures

I usually just stick to smoke signals

lol kidding, social media has become far too oversaturated in the young population today. It often takes away from physical conversations with my friends when they start snapchatting or checking twitter in the middle of a conversation, which I find pretty disrespectful. I have never truly liked the idea of social media but I have a facebook & an instagram for the sake of keeping in touch with my close friends who have gone to college. I use technology, but in a way to shape what I LIKE, not what current trends dictate I SHOULD LIKE. It is truly unfortunate to see people today who are so hyperfocused on getting likes or retweets on their pictures and daily life stories that they are quick to ignore relevant global issues simply because it doesn't apply to them in that moment

I agree with what you said, however I don't think I need Facebook or some other social media outlet to keep in touch with my friends, for my friends who are graduating this year, yeah I'm going to miss them, but if I want to remember them later on I'll buy a yearbook and keep it for memories or something like that.

This is an interesting topic that has been brought up. I'm more of a passive user of social media, I have a twitter account I don't tweet every 10 minutes about my life, I use it to see what my favourite youtuber's are saying or follow game devs. As for facebook, I don't post often either. I use that to keep in contact with friends or family as well as follow my local police force's updates.

I find it odd to see my little brother (10) playing on a tablet, or on his laptop or xbox. When I was his age I was rolling around in the grass outside, I made a small enclosure out of wood, filled it with dirt and leaves and shit and trapped snails in it. I then tortured the snails by moving them back to the bottom every time one got close to escaping. But nowadays children don't seem to know what outside is. If it can't be done on an iPad then what's the point?

There is a video that went around recently (ironically on social media) that makes a very good point, so I'll share it with you here:
