Abortion (what is your opinion)

Featured Replies

So if a spider is coming after me and i stomp the crap out of it, is it still wrong that i killed it?

So if you got pregnant because of a decision you made and then you abort it, its wrong that you killed it, yes.

It should be illegal, your killing a living baby like it's just trash. You can't just say ''Damn I'm pregnant I'll just have it taken out''  If you can't afford to be a new mother keep your pants on!

What decision?

IMO, the option to have an abortion should be granted to those who have a documented case of rape, sexual assault, or other sex-related charges. If you get knocked up b/c of your own stupid decisions, too bad. But if you get impregnated by someone without your consent, it should be given as an option.

This also might cause more victims of sex-related crimes to come forward...

After reading all the comments of people bashing other peoples opinions, I will give mine. I am not here to start a fight but I am more on the side of letting abortion be legal to a certain extent. Lets say she got raped and is really young (typically mid teens) or she is not ready for having children for some reason. Then I believe she has that right, am I saying that is a good idea, hell no, but it is her choice. But something I don't think is right is if a girl and guy hook up and the dude busts inside her and she feels good about it thinking nothing will happen, then what do you know she is pregnant. Once she is pregnant she feels bad about it and wants abortion. That is when you should take care of the kid and face your responsibilities.

I understand the necessety of legal abortions for rape-victims and I fully support that. But I don't support abortion in general. In my view there are a lot better options if a woman can't handle the pregnancy or being a mother - like giving the child up for adoption.

And it is not the mother's decision alone anymore to have an abortion when there's an embryo inside of her that is going to be a human being. While some of you are right in saying that at first, an embryo is just a bunch of cells, these bunch of cells become a baby after nine months and should develop in a normal man/woman. So I think the right for that embryo to live is far more important than the right of personal freedom or "personal comfort" (and for some, having an abortion is just more comfortable). While in most countries abortions are legal just until about three months into the pregnancy, I don't think it should be legal for "convenience issues" at all. Like i said: The right to live is the most precious right all of us have, and how can we decide for an individual that has no voice of it's own at that moment but will have one after just nine months.

I had "Neuroethics" as an elective course last year at university and we had a similar point to discuss: Brain death and pregnancy. Is the right of a dignified death (meaning shutting down all machines that keep the patient alive) more important than the right to live (for the embryo inside a brain dead pregnant patient)? All of the girls in our course said that they would want to be kept on the machines until they could deliver the baby (cesarian of course). And I think it is similar with abortion. The right do make your own decisions don't go as far as reject another individual's right to live (even if that individual is not actually born yet).

So people should start having sex when they can somehow manage what could follow from that sexual relationship. So if you can't handle being a father or a mother at 15, don't have sex. You know you could get pregnant or get a girl pregnant. I think most people start getting aware of that matter with 16, 17 or 18. And like I stated at the beginning, there are other ways than abortion. Abortion makes a woman's life easier because she doesn't have to carry the baby for nine months. And just because of convienience, you can't kill something that'll turn out to be a human being.

I personally will never conduct an abortion. Luckily most hospitals leave it up to the doctors to decide if they feel like they want to do abortions. But if u know how abortion exactly works, you wouldn't want to ever do that yourself (besides chemical abortion in the first weeks of pregnancy, that's not too disgusting but still ethically and morally wrong for me).

If you get knocked up b/c of your own stupid decisions.

In the world we live in, stupid decisions is a part of everyone's regular day. Unfortunately, being knocked up (which can happen from both stupidity and an accident eg, condom splitting) is another, regular stupid decision/mistake. I do not agree with people sleeping and shaggin' everyone and everything, but I do not agree we should punish these people so severely as suggested simple because of a naive mistake. I'm not sure if you realise just how many problems, especially for younger people, can arise from pregnancy: Bullying, expenses, giving up a baby they can not provide for but might of become attached too, pain, illness, sometimes death! I 200% agree with an earlier statement in this thread saying something along the lines, of whilst in the embryonic state, you're not actually human. It's sorta the same thing as pulling a plant out the ground, yes you killed it, yes you ended a life, but does the plant know? Nope.

I also don't see how only allowing pregnancy due to illegal actions would bring victims forward? Surely as it is, is the same, if not better? People just see another women going in for an abortion rather then a sexual victim going for an abortion. Having an abortion isn't as easy to hide if it is explicit to victims.

I too was against abortion, before I had become experienced with such things as the 'sexual world' and other similar aspects of life. Now, I see just how easily such a problem as accidental pregnancy could arise.

(Not saying that you are being disrespectful)

I was hoping I wasn't coming across as disrespectful, none was meant
