Battlefield 3 Available Free on Origin

Recommended Posts

As the title says, Origin has released BF3 as an on the house download. This isn't like a "free to play until..." but rather a full release of the game, absolutely free. The offer is only valid for a few more days though, so get it quickly.

This is probably the best game that Origin has given out free, so hopefully we'll see some nice free games from other providers (*cough* Steam *cough*).

In all honesty, Steam doesn't need to give free games away to attract customers. You realize that's Origins motive behind this. It's EA. Rated worst company in America atleast twice, possibly a third time, not sure. They are trying to steal customers from Steam to Origin. While it may work for a handfull of people. Steam is still by FAR the top dog in digital gaming. I mean this in all honest when I say I would rather buy a game on steam, then take it free from Origin. It's a buggy and intrusive, and EA is the worst company in gaming, very close to Ubisoft. End rant.  Nothing against your post, just pointing out the reason steam doesn't do stuff like that.

On a relevant note, BF 3 was a decent game.

"Battlefield 3 available free..."

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY--

"...on Origin."

Yeah, no, I've got enough DRMware on my computer as it is.

Edit: And yesterday someone tried to tell me I'd be missing out.

I was reluctant about Origin two years and a half ago. In fact I hated it for refusing to download the game for several days when it was released in October 2011. Now, I've had so much fun with this game that I just don't care about Orgin anymore. If I'd given up, I would have been missing out on something, really.

I don't disagree that EA is the worst company in gaming. Let's be clear on that much.

What I disagree with is your unfair comments to how Origin is intrusive and buggy. Origin is the only game client I have which logs in immediately when I tell it to, it stays logged in, and it sits in the background happy until I need it. When I ask it to launch Battlefield 4 or SimCity it launches it.

My steam client on the other hand takes 20 minutes to get it's shit together, it displays a dialog box on start up saying it has to extract the latest software update for steam, every time. There is no software update. It persistently fails to keep me logged in, and lately it has actually been crashing the process.

To say that Origin is intrusive and steam isn't is also a false claim. I've had to give steam my email address hundreds of times just for it to verify the same web browser as a new computer. Steam also cannot seem to retain my card details despite multiple purchases and ticking the box which says "save these details" or "remember my paying preference" or whatever the hell it's called.

My point being, all clients have issues. And it is wholly unfair to pick out Origin as the worst just because EA owns it. EA owns DICE titles like Battlefield 2, 3 and 4. But they're good games. EA owns the sims, which I also happen to love.

Oh and saying steam doesn't do free releases or "stuff like that" is also false. Steam frequently has free weekends to draw in people, it has team fortress 2 (a once pay for game now free to play with micro transactions) it also permanently appears to have a special deal sale on.

Origin has it's "on the house" feature.

My point here, is that like origin, steam is just another client which aims at taking your money and doing nothing else.

Sorry for calling you out, I have no intentions to cause an argument. It just annoys me when people say things like "X is so much better than Y and X never does anything bad". Cause at the end of the day they are both company ran clients, they don't give an ass about me or you, only the income.

As for Battlefield 3, I loved that game a lot. I switched to pc FPS gaming when I got 3 for PC and will probably never go back to console. You can't get 64 slot servers with so much going on on a console like you can PC. So much fun, well worth getting if it's free :)

Having used both steam and origin for 2-3 years, I can pretty much say they're both equally buggy and intrusive.  I've had more problems with steam than origin as well.

I almost feel like a ton of people are hating on EA just because everyone else does. I don't like EA, I don't like how they operate, I don't like how they treat their costumers, but I'm still going to purchase and use their products because I enjoy them.

but, this thread is not a steam vs origin/EA debate. It's a free game, get it, attach it to your account, don't play, I don't care, at least it would be there if you ever did want to play the game.

It's a problem that your having on your end then. Steam logs me in, and runs in the backround just fine. It also saves my payment methods. It literally takes me less than 10 seconds to buy a game. Also, putting in your e-mail address and having to verify your details is no doubt a pain. However, my steam accounts value is estimated at around $2,000.Steam is making it next to impossible for someone to hack into my account without me having a way to re-take it. Needless to say, I'm happy to go through with the BS as long as my account is safe.

To say steam is without issues is a lie. However, Steam is fair to its players. Have the given free games away. Twice that i can remember(being around a 8 year member). Portal was given free once, and red orchestra 2. Yes, team fortress was switched from a paid game to more of a free to play deal. They always do have specials, and the do frequently run a "free to play weekend". It's no secret steam has to make money too. My point is, EA KNOWS they are failing with Origin. Just compare the number of users and youll see.  I was commenting because the OP expected steam to give away free games non stop.

My point was Steam doesn't need such things to keep its users. Origin is wholly doing so in a strict regard to get customers to start using Origin. There is NO other reason. I don't believe Steam has its free weekends to grab users. They do it so you can try before you buy. You're correct when you say each client will have its issues. Unfortunately you got the bad end of steam. There are over 4 million users online worldwide right now. The least you have to admit is that it does work very well for most people. I'm not trying to steal people away from Origin. People should use whatever is best for them. My main point here, to the OP. Is that steam doesn't need to do free game grabs to attract customers. They are under absolutely no pressure of losing members. Origin on the other hand, it's EAs way to try and force itself into the Digital distribution market, which is fine. They, like all companies need to make money. The difference between Steam and Origin is the company behind it.

I'd support Valve any day over EA. This is EAs way to earn customers back. The same with their refund policy. While that's nice, and I'd love something similar on steam. It's EAs way of trying to "buddy" up with customers they know they have screwed over. Which ultimately is what I'm against.

All in all, users need to use what's best for them. I dont take offense to singleing me out, you stated your opinion. We all have one. My end point is I dont use Origin because I don't believe in EA. (It also majorily bugged my friends list when I started using it, but that was awhile ago its probably fixed now.)

Good day!
