Enabling Working Rotators (ELS 8)

Featured Replies

One of the big highlights of ELS 8 was the ability to actually have moving rotating lights by modifying the default lighting system. I read over the user manual and didn't find anything other than a reference to DROT. While the guide goes into great detail about arrow boards I find it lacked information about setting up the rotators in zmodeler.

So anyone have any idea how that might be set up?

I know that's not what you're asking for but E-32 and E-47 is probably the best halogen rotator options out there for ELS v8, or that's what I prefer to use with my MX-7000 fleet.

What he means i think, is the actual light spinning, not the ELS effect. As in this.

Ah, okay got 'ya. That looks really cool, hopefully someone releases a bunch of vehicles with that awesome new effect.

I think working rotators only work with the "firetruck", "police", "police2" and "police3" slots. I think "policeb" might work as well.

Cheers.

I think you have to make it like NON-ELS & map some part of it emissive.

I thought that might be it, but I wasn't sure how to map it with the ELS. And also, wouldn't the default GTA lighting system interfere? Or does this ELS disable it?

Yep, thats what I'm trying to figure out!

I plan too! Once I figure out how to map it!

Yep, the game only recognizes those slots.

Yea, i'm hoping for a monaco to have that.

If you could produce a model, I'd make a lightbar for you. (Of course once I figure this out)

I don't make models, but if you mean if I could find a model for you to use, then yes.

Well, I can't convert (Haven't got the hang of that yet) but I can make lightbars.

Me too, unfortunately I think the knowledge base is really small right now, so I'm not sure if anyone who will see this will know.

Hopefully though someone does share.

I would recommend downloading one of Lt.Caine or Bxbugs123's new vehicles that was just released with a rotatory lightbar and open the vehicle in sparkiv and look how they have the hierarchy set up.

Edit: And yes the rotatory lightbars will only work in the spots where a rotatory was used originally.

I've already checked. Its actually a combo of the Non-ELS and ELS lighting system which is pretty much disappointing considering there are only 8 of them hardcoded into the engine to be utilized without a hitch. So if you want rotating halogens, you're pretty much limited. In simpler words, don't expect to get a Vision SLR AND a FedSig Jetstream mini on one vehicle. Since even ELS won't be of no help once you run out of the default "sirens" (non-ELS modding blokes will understand what I'm talkin' 'bout). Basically you just get the rotor mesh as sirens and wrap the ELS extras around it for v8 to utilize this function. And as said earlier, it'll only work on Police, Police2, Police3 and Firetruk slots. For the rest, you're better off with the good ol' (somewhat fake) ELS-H tech. Thought I'd share my R&D on here since there's a lot more guys here than I expected who're into old-school shit just like me. Wasn't rocket science to figure out, though. I have seen this technique before being used by Netman. However, he chose not to say anything about his mod for some reason.

I didn't really talk to much about it as i was not sure if i could get something released with it, that's why i talked to some people also involved with ELS to help me out.

This was not supposed to be a part of ELS.

I have made it work, sorta. I'll post a video sometime tonight hopefully. I'll also post the hierarchy tonight so others can see how it works a bit more clearly.

It's a pity the only way to get proper rotators is using the cruise light, since there is no steady pattern for all extras, or at least the primary light extras. Using the drot mode and covering the extras using invisible parts might work as well, but it definitly doesn't look that good, depending on the rotator. I would love to see a proper rotator pattern, allowing the (steady) use of enough extras for all 8 sirens.

And guys, please don't act like the idea of adding extras into the siren dummies is new at all, I know that two years ago people were already experimenting with that, but were lacking a proper script.

The only difference is that you're hinting at Kevin who was trying to develop it 2 years ago, and I was hinting at Netman who was doing the same two years ago. Yeah, I second your statement. The idea ain't new 'round here. Some of us were already in touch with those who were trying to make it work, although unaware of each-other's actions, that many ages ago.
