Fixing controls clashing when using the controller

Featured Replies

I really believe this needs to be taken into account for the next fix. I'm not sure if this was intentional or whether this is a glitch, but I have noticed that when you're playing LCPDFR 1.0b with a controller and you conduct certain actions, the controls seem to be clashing.

For an example, say you're conducting a traffic stop. You're asking the person out of the vehicle with Dpad right and while the person does indeed get out, you also switch to your handgun! That isn't as bad but let's take a look at something else that happened. You're placing a criminal under arrest. Everything is swell until you come to the part where you're supposed to decide whether you want to call for a prison transport or drive the suspect to the station yourself. You hit X and choose the prison transport and suddenly your guy just hops into the air. Happens every time.

Bringing up the menu with different options like calling for a roadblock is also clashing with using the horn or switching between siren tones.

With all the above and more, this quickly becomes annoying to the point I just quit.

Apologies if there was a topic about this already.

Don't forget when you decide to transport the suspect yourself, you punch them in the head. Awesome police work there...

Yeah, exactly.

I like 1.0b and I certainly don't want to come off just pointing fingers but the controller layout does seem just rushed up. It is unbearable.

I don't use a controller, but wow that sucks.

But I don't really have a solution to that, unless you disable (or make it optional) LCPD:FR controller support, so then you use the Keyboard for LCPD:FR related keys.

Or, if you press a combination of keys, LCPD:FR removes default GTA:IV bindings & apply it's bindings, once you're done pressing your buttons, press the combination again & default GTA:IV bindings are restored.

Again, like I said, idk much about the XBox controller, & haven't used the PC one, so all this is just based on vague assumptions.

Trust me, you don't want to start running around using your controller, then quickly during an arrest try to hop on the keyboard. I'm assuming that's why controller support was done in the first place. To avoid keyboard/controller switching. So far you can do essentially all you need with the controller. Clashing is the only issue however. I'm just hoping that the devs see this so they can begin developing a fix/work around for this issue.

Another off topic suggestion: the mod should determine when you're playing online so when you pull up the selection menu, the game doesn't slow down, for that causes you to appear laggy as hell for other players.

Yeah, figured that, but somehow wanted to put it there anyway (don't ask me why, even I don't know why, lol).

Good point on the 2nd paragraph, that would really suck. Has anyone tried it online to see if it actually slows the game down tho? I know that 'officially' LCPD:FR doesn't support MP yet (I think), but it still might be there.

LOL. The thought of this is hilarious.

Damn, that sucks. I was actually preparing to purchase an Xbox 360 controller to play. Guess I'll wait it out on that investment. I appreciate you all bringing this to everyone's attention. Saved me what would have been wasted money, for now at least.

Hello,

thanks for your feedback. No one of the dev team plays using a controller, that's also why most actions are not bound. If the current controller layout is not efficient, feel free to provide us your settings here so we can add them to the next release. You can assign every single action with up to two keys in the .ini file for full customization.

About the networking issue, I'll have a look at that.

grab the guy before you say you going to transport and they will go up real high then fall to the ground and die

I'd love to up it raw but I'll have to pastebin it, it doesn't seem to like me uploading .ini files.

NOTABLE CHANGES:

Backup is on the B buttons (heli = B-up, standard = B-left, NOoSE = B-Down. Exception is B-Right, which is join pursuit, where you ARE the backup)

BACK is quick menu. I'd highly recommend turning off Clip Capture.

Y-Up starts LCPDFR, convenient for me since that brings up the phone and from there I can set it to sleep mode.

Edit: Following an arrest, A is the key to drive them to the station (which, in my opinion, is better than punching them in the back of the head)

Alright, thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can come up with something for the .ini. I was wondering if there was a possiblity of another work around for it however, such as the mod just blocking some of the default controls when you have the chance to choose an action related to LCPDFR. Like during traffic stops when you're leaning towards the car. It's not like you're moving anyhow.

Another off topic suggestion: the mod should determine when you're playing online so when you pull up the selection menu, the game doesn't slow down, for that causes you to appear laggy as hell for other players.

If i remember correctly, 1.0 isn't mad for MP.

I've opened up a support ticket about this issue a while ago and have been trying to find solutions with the support team.

So far, the only thing I've been able to find a solution for is to disable the quick action menu in the LCPDFR ini by setting it's control map to "none", since on the controller that is the left stick, which also does my siren tones.

I would personally pefer to simply disable controller support altogether as an option in the LCPDFR configuration, so I can drive and walk with my controller, and use the keyboard for LCPDFR like I have been for the last few years. I know some people don't prefer to play that way, but it's the best way I've found so far to avoid any conflicts with control mapping, which is why I wish it were a selectable option. Like disabling the transport cut scenes, the police audio, etc, that were added with the 1.0B release.

For those that are having this controller conflict issue, here is the link to the support request thread so if we get any answers there, we can all follow it.

That is correct. The dev team have said that they didn't intend for LCPDFR to be used for multiplayer.

I wish that I had the knowledge and skill required to create a multiplayer version of LCPDFR though. Really, the only functionality needed for multiplayer is the ability to conduct traffic stops and interact with peds. We wouldn;t need call outs or ambient scenarios, or AI police options, or roadblocks etc.

A multiplayer version would really just need a barebones release of traffic stop scritping and interacting with peds. Maybe one day I'll learn enough about scripts to put something together, but until then LCPDFR .95 does a great job for multiplayer, and I'm hoping that 1.0 will soon too.
