I will say that I agree with you that people in general are bafoons, but like some others have said, most people don't know what you know. Now I get that your job is dangerous and serious and I'm sure that most of the time you are friendly, however, I firmly believe in good customer service and if you honestly just tell ppl to "MOVE" and I was the customer whom you were delivering to, not only would I be calling the company rep, but I would say something to you. I feel that while I am annoyed at peoples ignorance much like you are, our problems "getting along" in society are because people are rude to one another and only focus on themselves. Not saying that is you, but im sorry your statements that your only job is to go home at night safe, while I agree you should be safe you are incorrect. Your job is to represent that company in the best way possible and if you for one second don't think that talking to someone in a forceful way because you want to "hurry in and hurry out" doesn't get noticed you should look around. I sorry if this sounds like a personal attack It's  not meant to be honestly, but customer service is gone in todays world and the only way to have the advantage in todays economy is to have a great image.

I will say that as someone who's been in security and who repos cars I know the need for that safety buffer, but unless they appear to be hell bent on coming at you, try being polite, smile and inform them to please go around for safety and security reasons. Now I know that takes a few extra seconds to do but those extra few seconds my be just enough for that person to THINK next time before they do the dame thing. Trust me, it can work.

Same here. I was wondering that same question.

If you're Canadian, and you have  your R-PAL (Restricted firearms license) and a SIN number then you can apply, which is 18 minimum. I have a friend who started when they were 19.

At 19 I had an interview for a position, but turned it down as it was across the country where my mother lived but decided to stay in school. Taught myself a lot about the process, however the job itself I can't speak for.

I applied in Southern Ontario (where I live) but no luck as of yet. It's a solid part-time job, around here from the ones I know in Garda, you start Part-time then if you earn the option to work full time and if you want to, you can.

Not to contradict with your statement, but it is just common etiquette to move over for EVs, not law (at least here in 'Murica).

It's a law in the state of Massachusetts, as well in other states. It's new in many of them, it only went into effect here a year ago. And one for being ticketed for not removing snow off the top of your car or truck went into effect a few months ago.

It's not that drivers are uneducated, they just aren't disciplined - which is not their fault, nor the LEOs'. The problem is, there are only so many cops to 100 cars in a radius on a highway. Therefore, cops can't keep up with all the crap drivers to discipline them.

It's also law in New York. I think it went into effect in 2010 or 2011. Originally it was only for emergency vehicles with red and/or white flashing lights, but they updated it pretty quickly to include amber lights as well. (Source)

Edit: Originally went into effect January 1, 2011 for red/white lights and was updated January 1, 2012 to include amber.

I also know that it's law in Florida.

Edit 2: According to Wikipedia, the only place in the US without a move over law is Washington D.C., and that's technically only a territory.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

You have to move / pull over for emergeny vehicels in NC, if a cop, fire truck, ambulance, etc. is pulled over or is responding code you have to move over. Now you have to move over or slow down for tow trucks on the side of the road. (too many troopers and tow truck drivers have been hit or killed)

Wow. Well, I guess these laws were enacted not too long ago? I'm going to see what CA's rules are.

SCNG FTW!!

I understand your point, but I will not change how I work.

I actually have indeed gotten several complaints against me, and my manager has backed me in every one, and told the complainant that I was simply doing my job.

My customer service is reserved for my customers, not the customers of my customers.

I'm forceful for a reason. People generally do not respond to politeness. Unfortunate, but in my experience, it's true. I try to keep all my stops under 5 minutes total, from the time I leave the truck until I get back in. I simply don't have time to slow down.

Wow. Well, I guess these laws were enacted not too long ago? I'm going to see what CA's rules are.

Indiana, too. It is state law that you must yield to emergency vehicles, on the road, or stopped.

Brinks drivers or Armoured Car drivers in general don't make that much, which is sad really, some that I know of hold 2 jobs to make ends meet ( no offence to the MoneyMan).

People really are that ignorant, and pretty dumb nowadays but that may be an understatement, there has been at least 1 pedestrian/vehicle collision at least once a day for the last 6 months here in Halifax , people driving 135-140 in a 110KM/HR speed zone, going around school buses with the lights flashing, don't move over for emergency personnel etc, seems that drivers are severely uneducated with the rules of the road, I was loading a car on the side of the road today and people would not slow down or move over, whizzing inches from my ass.

I make more than a lot of police officers around here. A city nearby pays their officers $32,000 annually, I make around $36,000. Most departments pay closer to $40,000, but there's a few in the $30,000s.

I make more than enough to get by, and I live very comfortably.

People have too many opinions about things they know nothing about, and the less they know, the more opinions they have.

I didn't mean to insult you if I did, I made almost $30,000 last year, which is okay, considering the crap I put up with & the hours I work, things are also ALOT cheaper there, then here, which kind of evens out, cops here make $86,000/per year after 5 years of service as a Police Officer, whether it be Regional Police or RCMP, they pay cops extremely well here, here it's the law to move over for emergency vehicles as well, but people don't, so they are getting a lot more strict with those laws now because people just don't give a shit until it's them. true story, myself seeing this everyday as a Tow Truck Driver, to be honest, people are just plain dumb, last year I was hooking up to a broken down van & some guy in a supped up mustang thought it would be funny to walk on the accelerator and do a 180 around us, almost shit my drawers & him & his girlfriend laughing about it.

No insult taken. I do understand that things are a lot more expensive out on your side. $86,000 is a fantastic salary here!

About that situation you described, I see a severe lack of respect. Like you said, people just don't care unless it affects them.

People have too many opinions about things they know nothing about, and the less they know, the more opinions they have.

Yeah laws change for each state. most likely though if you don't move over for a emergency vehicle (police) they won't pull you because they are going to the call. It a depends on the officer, deputy, or trooper...they could give you a ticket for unsafe movement (lowest ticket in the book), but like I said it all depends.

Pshhh 3 Years in with the OPP, base salary is $93, 000 that's not including the ridiculous amounts of overtime you could get!

I've always been perplexed by the difference in pay between Police across both borders.

wow, guess a job opening in RCMP is always an extremely popular one! How many applicants there are per one position, I wonder.

On topic, yeah, people are ignorant, but some of them may also be confused or something. I pretty well can imagine myself peering at security guys doing their job, when I just arrived to the USA and have never senn that procedure before.

Thousands of applicants across Canada as the RCMP is our national police force, it is an extremely grueling & lengthy process but from what I've heard the RCMP is an organization to steer away from but tons of opportunities, wouldn't be me.

OPP base salary = 93, 000 (after 36 months service)

RCMP base salary = 82, 000 (after 36 months service)

Both have many duration post with incentives and "danger" pay.

Police jobs as of right now are hard to come by in general in Canada (minus Western Canada I know nothing about Western Canada's police, except the RCMP). Policing in Ontario (where the OPP is) is very competitive there are way more applicants then positions available. I know the RCMP hires young, I personally know of one 20 year old in Nunavut (a duration/ danger post) I also know my father was hired at 20 back in the stone age. lol. My mother works with two 21 years olds, and when she did her basic training (Depot) there was an 18 year old on course, imagine that?  However I know large amounts of both the OPP and RCMP are eligible for retirement very soon, within the next 4 years 30% of the OPP is eligible for retirement. I'll be graduating University next year and plan to apply to the OPP.

It's not always ignorance, it's often stupidity.

It is indeed. These people are willfully ignorant, which is stupid.

People have too many opinions about things they know nothing about, and the less they know, the more opinions they have.
