Us Mexicans have the Right to Celebrate our Holidays.

This is a Free Country and we do have the Right. Also

Like they said, the Americans Kids kept on having

Disputes about Mexican Holidays. Mexicans have all

the Same Rights as Americans! Not just Mexicans all

Immigrants from any other Country as well. Black, Pink,

Purple, orange, does not matter what race. They are

As an American, this disturbs me.... You don't see other countries banning the use of their own flag do you? I hate how people believe that as Americans, we should just do everything to make everyone

If other students got offended b/c someone wore an american flag on their t-shirt, they should be reminded that they are in america, If they were saying something while wearing the shirt, why prohibit

That's stupid that they banned wearing a shirt with the American flag. Instead of banning the shirt, why not deal with the students causing trouble? Everybody in that country is free to express their opinion. I also agree with what Sergeanto said above.

Or just keep immigrants out of the country? I'm not a racist, but even on the Canadian side of things, they allow immigrants into our countries, they take our jobs, leaving the unemployment rates to skyrocket because they want to show "diversity" they expect us to change our ways of life to benefit them ie in some religions they want to be able to beat their wives.. they wanted to move here & be Canadian/ American citizens, they should adjust to our way of life..

But you ever notice that generally it's someone of colour that has the problem?

As a fellow Canadian, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. I myself am an immigrant to Canada (I came here when I was 1.5 years old) but I identify as a Canadian when asked where I'm from. Likewise, there are many immigrants who come to Canada who accept Canadian culture with open arms.

I live in Toronto, which is considered to be the most multi-cultural city in North America by some people. I can say for a fact that a large majority of immigrants do not cause problems, and are a benefit to our country. There is of course, a small minority that do cause problems and these people come from all over the world.

I agree with you that people who come to Canada should adopt Canadian practices, and our government agrees with that too. We have obviously not decriminalized spousal abuse nor have we allowed any type of religious or cultural violence to be acceptable. The government has never said, and never will say that anybody is allowed to break the Criminal Code of Canada for any religious reason.

The solution isn't to stop immigration, but rather to have more stringent immigration policies to make sure that people who are coming into the country will be beneficial to Canadian society.

Coming to Canada at a very young age is very different then waiting until your 30 or 40 years old, you have your whole life to adjust to our way of life, immigrants that are seasoned come here & feel they are treated badly because they come here, don't speak a lick of English, they want their religious ways to continue as they did in Pakistan, Iraq or wherever they came from, Canada, nor the U.S seem to be stable enough to even handle our ever growing population of kids having kids, bottom line is, if immigrants are allowed to immigrate here or the U.S their shouldn't be any reason why I have to lose a job opportunity because they need a green card, the government isn't putting THEIR  people top priority as they should, i'll be perfectly blunt, if someone from india comes here looking for a job, I'm not going to feel bad if they lose that opportunity, because this is my home I have a family & it was their choice to come here & take food off of my table, I don't plan on moving to Iraq, Sri Lanka, or wherever, they move here, we get pushed aside because they need to start their Canadian/ U.S life, this is very frustrating & our governments need to learn to prioritise.

My parents came when they were nearly 40 from Bosnia and adjusted very well. Then again my parents are very well educated individuals who spoke three languages including rough English. We shouldn't stop immigrants from entering the country, we just need better rules that govern who we let in. Although we have existing legislation (the point system) for immigrants it obviously doesn't work that well.

Always I hear Americans complaining about immigrants and starting with their patriotic rants this comes to my mind...

Aaaanyway, I think it may be a bit exaggerated what that school has done.

While I'm still appalled by what the US Government did to the Native Americans, there is a difference between a few hundred nomadic tribes and a country with an established government.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

So instead of worrying about something note worthy we're all flipping shit about a school banning the American flag shirt? If they would allow the American flag in school, they would also have to allow the NAZI flag or the KKK flag because if they didn't it would be discrimination. Lets worry about something real and that could cause us harm.....

Can you tell me any current country that uses the Nazi or the KKK flag?

That isnt what i'm saying. A flag is a flag, doesn't matter if its a country or a group its a flag. if you allow one thing you need to allow all things in that category. Fine how about North Korea, dictator ship, kills hundreds of its own people a day. Much better...

A flag represents something, so a Nazi flag, KKK flag, boy scouts of American is no different then a American flag. They are all symbols that represent something. If you allow one you need to allow the other...

(Please don't take that out of context and think i'm saying America is like Nazi Germany that's not what i'm saying. Even though someone is going to flip shit and still call me out on)

The American Flag represents the country where the school is located, the United States of America. The KKK Flag and the Nazi flag represent genocide and bigotry. The basis from the article for banning the flag is that it causes offense on one day. While all 3 of those flags are symbols, 2 of them are guaranteed to offend a majority of people who understand that flag all of the time.

The purpose of wearing a KKK flag or a Nazi flag is purely to offend. The purpose of wearing a country's flag is almost always to express pride in the country.

I feel the country is becoming so politically correct people are pushing 'American Culture' to the back seat, people often forget that immigrants must adjust to the culture of the country they're immigrating to, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

Schools, who teach the newest of our generations, are so fearful of reaching an impass with others beliefs (I should know, I go to a school just like this), they will never assert what SHOULD be known as an American citizen, and the responsibilities that come with being one.

I do navy rotc at my school as well, and NOTHING makes me MADDER than people not knowing what to do when national anthem beings playing, standing awkwardly, not knowing whether or not to place their hand over their heart, and I have seen this from those about to finish schooling, all the way down to frighteningly young children for not knowing this.

"There is nothing to support the idea that America is the greatest country on earth... We sure used to be..."

"This first step to solving any problem is recognizing there is one, America is not the greatest country in the world anymore."

That can go either way, a lot of people find the American flag offensive. Just because you live in a country doesn't mean you love it. (Don't get me wrong I love my country just not everyone feels the same)

This is the reason why most schools are switching to uniforms so people don't get offended. Students have the right not to be offended in school and this is a step to stop it. I don't agree with it but i'm just pointing out why they are doing it. Don't yell at me just saying why...

Being offended is a part of life. If a shirt of the country they're living in offends them, then they are going to have a real tough time once they enter the real world. This also shows how the current generation is being failed both by the education system and at home.

God, maybe before you patriotic bastards go and post your American flag gifs and pictures, not referring to you Quiggles, you should probably hear both sides of the argument.

Maybe other students get offended by the clothing? Maybe it's not just the shirts, but also what the students are saying while wearing the shirts? Don't go on saying "Hur duh dur fuk all who hate the flag, they can leave the country".

Now before you go calling us patriots, bastards, maybe you should think of the country this is taking place in. I could care less about if were "offending" some minorities. No one should be shunned for showing their country's pride. If i'd be attending that school i'd bust out total redneck and come in dressed as Uncle Sam, and if you have a problem with us "patriotic bastards" maybe you should move to mexico if you hate us so much, now please, watch what you post.

I couldn't give less of a rats ass that I've offended you by calling ya a "patriotic bastard". Maybe that's why other countries don't like us? Because when other cultures attempt to make an impact on the US, we'll just deny the change and say, "If u don't like our way of life, go back to where you came". With that, continue to hate other ethniticies beside your own and prove to me how high of an ignorance level you have.

Yeah, how dare he get upset about people trying to change his culture.

Do you realize how ridiculous you would look if you went to a school in the UK and got offended that people wore shirts with the UK flag?

You know, Darkangel actually has a point. It is NOT legal for the government to discriminate against speech in a non-content-neutral manner; the American flag gets no special exception because it's the American flag. You might be able to make a case about harassment interfering with school for Nazi or KKK symbols in a way it doesn't interfere for the American flag, but it's dependent on the area.

To those not in the US: Note that the US doesn't prohibit people from expressing Nazi viewpoints like, say, Germany does. The US form of freedom of speech is considerably broader than most countries' forms; for instance, adults have the constitutional right to hold a neo-Nazi march down the center of a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, and the city isn't allowed to prohibit it or to require an excessive bond against damages. Public schools are different, but students are considered to have certain free speech rights as long as they don't interfere with instruction (that's high school; public college falls under full free speech protection, as the students are adults with the full complement of rights).

A few curve balls for all those reading, especially on the Nazi & KKK references;

1.) Free speech doesn't cover slander.

2.) Businesses and organizations can write in their own set of rules prohibiting or allowing any potentially provocative material. They have that freedom, the same way that the parents have the freedom to make sure their kids don't attend school there if it makes them feel better.

3.) Kids aren't entitled to all of the same constitutional rights that adults are.

What I took away from the BBC version of the article: It's probably a stereotypical East Californian mid-income school with a large Hispanic population that come from poor immigrant families who are clashing with the formerly dominant white population in the school. The teachers were afraid of skirmishes over race during a Mexican holiday because they can't control the kids themselves and they're too afraid/lazy/poor to call the police in or hire security, so instead they told the white kids (which are now the minority in that school) to not wear U.S. flag shirts.

Since American flag shirts were banned, I would have just worn these instead:

"You think anybody wants a round-house kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys? ...I don't think so."

Maybe if you don't like this country why don't you just get the fuck out? Problem solved, if we don't want to change then we won't. And if you have a problem with people like us then don't fucking talk to us, PROBLEM SOLVED! Now if you were to call someone like us a patriotic bastard face to face you'd be having a foot up your ass and a fist down your throat. Just warning you for your future. Sorry for the profanity but i have a point to prove.
