[ZModeler] How to add lights to a vehicle

Featured Replies

Hey guys! So I'm a noob when it comes to all of this ZModeler stuff. I was wondering how to add lights to a vehicle. I'm trying to make an unmarked vehicles so I chose to use these lights: >LINK. Thanks for your help!

It's best to start off with parts that are released as .wft format. But if you'd like to jump into .z3d, go for it! Try checking the tutorials section - there's a ton of tutorials there. Also, to import .z3ds into the car, import the textures as normal, then click "File" then click "Merge" and find your .z3d file and that should be you good to go! Have fun modding and another thing: don't release your first model, wait for your skills to get better and start releasing unique models slowly.

If you go on to youtube, there are tutorials about how to add lights etc, also there are tutorials here on LCPD:FR  ( If you look at the top navigation bar, you`ll see a tab with Tutorials, everything they wrote something for is there.

I hope this helped you out feel free to ask more questions !

I've recently made an undercover Sultan model using the pretty >Whelen Avenger Light Bar made by EVI.

It's not that difficult, but you need (at least) these applications:

zmodeler 2.2.4

OpenIV

With OpenIV export car's model (wtf) and textures (wtd) from vehicles.img. From the same image export vehshare.wtd & vehshare_truck.wtd textures, as they're shared by many vehicles. (there's some other texture to export but I don't really remember... anyway, you'll find out later)

Opening ZModeler, first of all, you have to import textures (this way zmodeler will edit materials by itslef - otherwise you will do that by your own, not that simple...). THEN import the model. IF zmodeler returns errors for missing textures, you'd better find where are they stored (it will be a x.img) and import them (you'd better delete and re.import the model for automatic material assignment).

Same procedure for lights' model and textures.

About lights assignments: if you're using ELS there is a great tutorial made by hlsavior: Assembling an ENTIRE Vehicle

Otherwise, for non-ELS lights, you can understand the basics >here

This is what I learned so far, hope it helped

So when you say .wft format, does this mean a use of another editor. And I was also wondering is there any other editor besides zmodeler to edit vehicles? Also what does Rockstar use to build vehicles for the game?

Thanks: josh

Hold on, first things first. Are you trying to mod GTA V or GTA IV?

ZModeler 3 is the best way to go. The best thing honestly is to start messing with an already existing unlocked model to learn your way around ZM3.

ok that makes since. but what vehicles from GTA 5 are unlocked. I used the oracle vehicle from the game and turned it into a cop car. but maybe the oracle isn't unlocked? maybe that's why my game keeps crashing!

Nah that wouldn't be it. If the car was locked it wouldn't of let you open it in zmodeler. Shoot me a PM

But not sure how to make them light up.

Sorry, I don't stand with Ukraine because Biden expects me to for his agenda.
