Hey y'all hows it going?

Just thought I'd share with y'all my new car I just picked up on saturday!

It's a 2009 CVPI. Former Philly Port Authority (At least thats what I was told.) Got 150k on her but I don't even care! It's a crown vic! Haha.

Don't hassle me about the buddy bumper! A Go Rhino or Setina will be replacing that very soon! My new Unity Spotlight (current one doesn't have a lamp) and Whelen CometFlash 6-head strobe controller literally just landed on my door step.

Its going to be used as not only my daily driver, but also a prop car for a youtube Cops parody/remake type deal here in the near future.

Current plans are full lighting package (all amber of course), siren, etc. It's already got a Havis center console, working motorola maratrac radio, MPH radar unit, Mobile Vison dash cam (Well not installed but I have one.) Setina partition and back seat. Needless to say its awesome! Here is a pic of my buddies and mine next to each other (his on the left, mine right.)

I'll probably do a build thread with me installing the equipment if y'all would like to see one.

Those two pictures are of different NYPD CVPIs. Also, the first one seems very strange because it has forward facing blue lights on it, something that is illegal for police department's in New York. T

I want a retired cop car, but I don't want to have to deal with the issues that it may or may not have. Granted, if I got to do what I wanted, and learn to be a mechanic, I would buy one in a heartbeat and work on it myself. I like yours though!

From my experience I'd agree, cop cars are ragged to hell and back by the drivers, nobody has any care for how they treat their cars in the police.

Police cars are tools as much as the lights and siren are and they're treated as such, no love or care shown to them.

I'd never buy anything that was used by the police or any emergency service for those reasons.

I agree. One of my best friend's dad is a mechanic and his kid bought a used Crown Vic that was a cop car, and his dad fixed it up and keeps it running. I think it has almost 200,000 miles on it. As long as you take care of it, it should run. But that is expensive. Plus the transmissions get beat up from them zipping around and throwing into park while the car isn't completely stopped. Plus all the time the cars are left running. I want one, but the investment isn't a wise one at all. lol.

Woah, I thought you're passion about policing was just limited to games, but you spent 150k on a cvpi!? That is a nice car, but i'd spend such money on some Italian supercar IMO.

I gotta admit that I thought the same thing for a moment :D but I think he meant 150K miles on it, not money he spent.

Hah! Lol i'd love to hear the real price of that thing then

Do Port Authority cars get beat to hell like the rest of them? And you can find good ones out there you just have to make sure to get the full background on the car. Like a detective who works 8-5 mon-fri won't beat it up like a deputy or city officer would. I also am curious about the price.

Looks quite nice :)

I have my eyes on one here in Sweden, but that is going to have to wait... Nice car by the way. Would love to have my own parked in the driveway some day, even though it may be battered to hell as NB stated.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

They don't go for very much, mines an 03 and I paid $1200.00 for it, beautiful shape, has 233,000KM on it though, but i'm gonna put a new motor in it eventually, they're worth it if that is the kind of car you want, any car is worth it if that is what you want to drive.

Nice... but personally, I just think driving round in a cop car just looks a tad foolish, I mean, I'm all for retired CVPI's (so long as they're cheap) but just why do some people drive around in fully equipped CVPI's. FYI this is just to feed my curiosity, because I don't doubt that there are some people on LCPDFR who have proper police vehicles as their daily drive.

Well, me personally, I like the look of them as well as the sound and power but they're cheap & fuel mileage is great on the highway, I want to fully restore mine and have it as a show car probably going to be next summer, I have strobes lights in mine, but I don't use them, they ride probably better than most trucks do, those crown vics in those pics are in pretty dodgy shape and the push bumper is beat to shit.

I'd personally like a push bumper because if I hit something head my car is totaled.

I currently have 6 strobes in it and am going to put 4 amber ones in as well as well as a light strip in the back window and I have Whelen Vertex (Amber) to install on the mirrors, after all the gear is installed I will probably not drive it except to show it off, unfortunately some people get them for the wrong reasons & people are very negative about why people buy them.

Prepare your check book because old cop cars are money pits...

Also prepare to be arrested, because what you said you are going to do is highly illegal and personally if I saw someone doing what you said you were doing I would report them. There is something called a "Cop Want to be" and police departments always stare away from those people because they are never good cops because they surround them selves with cop stuff. A old teacher of mine was a CPT on a police department and also on the interview team and one of the questions were.

"What do you do to relieve stress?" and if someone said like watch cop shows or study cop stuff he would put them at the bottom of the list. Driving a retired cop car is no different..

There not stupid they will see this connection and you will have a hard time getting hired as a cop any where. Because this is what they see "Great we have a kid that wants to be a cop he surrounds him self with police stuff so all his job related stress never goes away because he is exposing him self to it everyday even off of work"

Think i'm bull shitting? Think that have fun trying to get hired on a police department.

He said 150,000 miles. With a Crown Victoria being what it is (a lumbering, 135mph limited, V8 heavyweight), I dunno how you'd get that confused with super car money, as you mentioned yourself.

Your point actually came up in somebody else's thread. Putting flashing lights and sirens on a non-emergency vehicle is not illegal. He can legally put all the lights and sirens on his car that he wants, as long as the lights are amber lights, and only used on his private property, his own private road, an empty parking lot, or in a parade. If he were to put red and blue lights on his car and use them on the road, that is very illegal.

Lmao didn't mean for this to be a flame war.

I paid $3500 for the car. Around here thats a good price as the cab drivers drive the price up like you wouldn't believe. As for them being a money pit? Eh. Maybe, maybe not. I do think I'm going to have to replace the passenger side valve cover, which seems to be common on these cars to fail. The power steering pump also needs replaced but I knew that before I bought it. In fact the seller gave me a new pump to go with the car. I drove it over 120 miles home with no problems what so ever. 3 of my friends have them and they are all running very strong.

As for the equipment it is not illegal. Amber lighting can be used by anyone, anytime on either public roadways or private property. The siren can only be used on private property, however the airhorn and P.A. function can be used on public roadways. Dash camera, well, I mean I believe every car should have one. The partition, not illegal. Motorola radio, not illegal. Radar, eh I'm not sure about this one.

Obviously I'm not going to be driving around my town harassing motorists. I will not use this vehicle for illegal activities and any and all video shoots will be cleared with local law enforcement to give them the heads up on why theres a fake cop car having someone pulled over.

Like I said, not only am I just building a unique, out of the ordinary daily driver, but also doing something I enjoy by actually building it. I enjoy running all of the wires. I enjoy working on my cars.

I do also do security for the local chamber of commerce and we have large downtown events and in the rare event that a subject needs to be detained, a road needs to be blocked off, or traffic needs to be directed my vehicle will be able to do so until law enforcement can arrive.

But like I said, I'll post a thread on the build here in the future. I'm going to be taking out roughly $1,500 in a personal loan to buy all my equipment!
