This is pretty old news. May I ask why do you wish they would have caught the guy and tortured him? That's pretty fucked up and wouldn't be allowed in a county jail or prison.

To be honest, I don't know why everyone should really care at this point. One of my biggest pet peeves about the USA is the fact that most people here will try and milk a tragic event, like this, as long as they can and if you say something against it then your the terrible a-hole. The biggest one being the September 11th attacks, which happened a little over 12 years ago, and others like the Sandy Hook shooting, ect. I'm not saying I support these acts against society but there needs to be a limit at which people can stop and say, "Hey, we've been trying to get everyone to remember and care about this event that happened years ago. We should just stop because at this point more and more people are forgetting about it and if we keep bringing it up then less and less people will want to care about it".

Thats the difference between him and us. We are not like him. Even if the authorities would have caught him i wouldn't want him to be tortured. If we act like him what difference will it make?  I would just forgive him; not for his act but for making peace with the past and myself.

Thats all i have to say.

I have a huge issue with what you posted. Torture isn't just "a little extreme", ineseri. It is so offensively off the entire spectrum of conduct that should even be considered in a remotely civilized society that it's legitimately horrifying to think that someone would put it out there in a throwaway comment. The deaths of twenty kids is tragic. The prospect of state-sponsored torture in retribution for past crimes is infinitely worse. Torture is unjustified, full stop, even if it's in an attempt to prevent future crimes (which it sucks at doing, by the way). Using it in response to past crimes is even worse.

And I am horrified that you think cold-blooded torture ever could be justified. Perhaps I should clarify - I didn't mean that you shouldn't post what you posted. I mean that I disagree in the strongest possible way with the idea contained in the post.

i don't like torture the only time i think the only time torture should be applied is when some moron kills kids. You are stupid if you think this guy should not have been tortured. Have a great day :D

The reason people remember things like that and keep bringing it back up is, I think, mainly because it is a major event that happened within their lifetimes. It is something that affected them emotionally, and possibly changed their lives. I wouldn't expect people born after 2001 (well, maybe in the future since right now they would only be 12 or younger and probably wouldn't have a care in the world about it (no offense to anyone who is 12 here)) to continue trying to bring up 9/11 with all the "never forget" type things, but people that were alive to see will easily remember it and they want others to as well. I'm not saying I disagree with you - at some point people do have to move on, not completely forget, but stop treating it like it happened yesterday.

Regarding torture, I agree with cp702. It is never acceptable. It doesn't do any justice if you stoop to, or even below, the criminal's level.

Yeah, when you want someone to be tortured that's just barbaric. No matter how "justified" you would think it is. You're only lowering yourself to their level, if not even below that level. Only one with a sadistic mind would wish another human being to be tortured.

You took the words out of my mouth. What I was getting at was the fact that way to often I see people that were born when 9/11 happened, so the late 1990s and early 2000s, and yet those types of people will try and emphasize on those sort of events that, which is okay but you have to realize that you were most likely not affected by the events what-so-ever. It is important that we not forget these tragedies and yes, we should commemorate them every so often but there is no need for everyone to try and make it sound like it happened yesterday.  One year from the day that the Sandy Hook school shooting occurred, I believe we should commemorate those who lost their lives on that day but say 15 years from now we should not have the same emotions and reactions as we did the year after it happened. We would still remember what happened that day but shouldn't be treated as a freshly open wound. Time is the ultimate healer, I guess you could say.

Again, to touch on what others have said. Torture would do nothing but give us the sick pleasure that the person who pulled the trigger against all those lives that day felt. Since they don't have the death penalty in Connecticut, I think it would be safe to assume the person would get a life sentence without the glimpse of probation. That person would spend the rest of their life in a cell, without a glimpse of freedom.

@gamerdanger: Sometime I don't understand why you post because most of the time it causes an uproar where everyone will disagree with you. Stay out of current events & politics, on the forum, if you don't want people to get pissed at you.

No just No

When something as horrible as this happens all that should happen is we just mourn them for a week then move on.

The news makes the shooter look like a super hero and it gives all those crazy ass people out there the little kick they need to go shoot up a place.

Want to be made famous and have everyone in the world know your name? Why not just shoot up a school and kill a few dozen kids? That is what the news makes it look like.

Exactly! It's like when 9/11 rolls around. It's sad that the news makes such a bug deal about it every single year. If you had someone die in the tragic event, you don't want to be hearing it every year for the rest of your life. All of the people want to move and and forget about it.
