Task Forces!

Featured Replies

The topic says it all! Let's implement task forces in to LCPDFR! What is a task force? A task force is a specialized unit of police officers who are assigned to combat a variety of crimes ranging from illegal narcotics, prostitution, loan sharking, etc. The mission should be initiated in the police department, and randomly assign different tasks. I think this could expand the game's imagination a little bit.

Thanks.

I disagree, this is not a good idea to implement in the main mod.

LCPDFR is about the everyday life of a beat cop in Liberty City. Not about special task groups, swat, drug busts or anything like that. You are supposed to simulate an ordinary day, a day which ordinarily does not include these types of assignments. This will not be in version 1.0.

With that being said, V 1.0 comes with an API where you can create your own callouts, so maybe you can create this type of assignment yourself (or download one, if a community member makes one).

I beg to differ with that statement. Not that my credentials apply in this matter, but I am a Criminal Justice Major with a Bachelor's Degree and it's safe to say almost every police officer has or will be working on a task force within their career. I understand this game is to resemble the every day functions of a patrol man, but don't think that's what police are confined to. Hopefully it's implemented within the next update!

LCPDFR is meant to act as a base tool, with the user's imagination and other mods determining what will be done. The tools and functions it provides are equal to that of an ordinary police officer, but it allows for some customization. For example, you can install a taskforce officer, have a partner or spawn bodyguards with SNT, and respond to drug deals.

As it was said before, a developer API will be implemented in the next release. Part of the reason why they are not going to implement a suggestion like this is as it was previously stated, that LCPDFR is supposed to be the role of a beat cop, not a detective, SWAT officer or Task Force officer. But the primary reason is that the devs are hoping this will be a final release, and instead of creating various complex missions, they are attempting to polish off features (like pursuits) and create a basis for future scripting.

It's been several years already, let's not hold the community from it because a feature a majority will not use will be implemented, and instead try to get a stable release open to user customization out in a reasonable amount of time.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I wouldn't say LCPDFR is a beat cop mod, it's just a cop mod.  With LCPDFR, and even more with 1.0, we've tried to give people a framework and a set of mechanics with which they can be the police in GTA IV.  The focus of LCPDFR isn't one particular area or type of policing, but rather just providing the essentials in a way that is integrated as seamlessly as possible with the normal game.  You can still be the FIB or be a NOOSE Agent with LCPDFR, and likewise you can be a normal cop too.  Our goal has been to make sure that all the stuff that a cop typically does is there for you, like stopping, detaining and searching people, pulling over cars (and stopping fleeing suspects), making arrests and calling in all sorts of backup.

The rest is more or less up to you and your imagination, we don't want to force any particular style of play on you.  That's why there's no penalties for killing innocents or executing surrendered suspects and it's why with 1.0 when it comes to missions and callouts and such, we decided to introduce the API so that you can script your own scenarios based on your own taste.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

i disagree with you its not about a everyday life of a beat cop you can be a FIB angent or a NOOSE guy the task force is a great idea

Overall, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it appears the majority would prefer a task force.

Get on the ground!

Nope. You have 3 or 4 saying they'd like it. There are over 100,000 registered members on this site. 3 or 4 is not a majority, or near a majority, or a substantial minority, or a small niche, or a statistically relevant group at all, especially compared to people who want 1.0 released more quickly. You can't go from "people who bothered replying" to "userbase as a whole"; the people who reply to this topic are biased in favor, because people who don't want task forces are much less likely to bother replying.

If you want task forces, you can write the callouts yourselves with the API. LCPDFR is generally about providing the tools to make you a cop, and less so providing things to do as a cop (that's why things like Braveheart's script play nicely with it: LCPDFR makes you a cop, Braveheart gives callouts). With 1.0, there is an API, so you don't even need the callouts built into the mod: you can write them yourself.

If the only suggestion is "X type of mission", you can probably make it yourself. With the API, we simultaneously satisfy *every* request for different types of callouts by providing tools that let you finally integrate them with LCPDFR (which was the issue with things like Braveheart's mod: it provided good callouts, but you lost plenty of LCPDFR features dealing with them (e.g. couldn't pull over drivers spawned by the script).

If you wanted something that doesn't fall under the "callout" category, that's a different story, and could you clarify what you're proposing?

When I say majority, I am clearly referring to the player's who responded =) don't jump the gun officer ;) I was just suggesting that the task force already be implemented in the game upon downloading the patch. I don't think it's necessary to reconfigure the API on the player's own, because most people would screw the entire game up. Please don't take this the wrong way, as this thread is simply titled "SUGGESTIONS."

Take care.
