APB: Reloaded

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wondering who in the community plays APB:R? I've seen a few people on steam that play it, but not many. I myself play it quite often, with a clan I'm in. Who does play APB:R? What server do you guys play on? I play on Colby (NA West), I'm a R154 Enforcer, gold threat. If anyone plays on Colby, message me on steam (FireShooter10) and we can group up or something.

I don't play it but have been looking to get into it

Its pretty nice, graphics are O.K., could use some work, but thats what shaders are for. The one thing you will see, is a lot of raging, caused mostly by people loosing/running into hackers. There are a bunch of them throughout the game, you just need to be able to keep your temper and beat 'em.

Sort of, like a Cops And Robbers game really, theres no RP involved what-so-ever. But the customization is amazing. You can make just about anything. I've seen some unique stuff come from the community. Its really awesome if you're just driving around in a district and you see someone with an awesome car or character.

The game is a trainwreck to be honest.  It's been flawed ever since I started playing it (in the beta before it was released in 2010) and it's still flawed, perhaps even more so, today.  Realtime Worlds got a lot of the core of the game really badly wrong, it's centered around pretty boring PvP in that the only combat that takes place is if you are on a 'mission' against someone, which means you have to go somewhere, break a door down then go return the stolen goods to a drop off all the while the enemy team tries to stop you.  That's fine, but it gets really boring after a while and it's just wrong for the type of game that it is.  You have criminals and paramilitary police/vigilantes called enforcers in two districts of a big open-world city, therefore you would expect it to have some open-world crime - it doesn't.  All the criminals can do is mug NPCs, raid stores or steal cars and if they do that enough, an icon appears above them and you can 'witness' them, starting a 'mission' where you have to kill them and take whatever they had and bring it back to a police station.  The problem with this is that nobody ever does it, because it frankly isn't worth it.  If you witness a criminal mugging someone, stop them and return the stolen goods, you only get a few hundred APB dollars (in-game money) for it and a minute amount of standing (standing is how you level up).  On the other hand, if it puts me into an objective based mission where I have to raid some property and take photographs of a car, upon completing that I get at least 400 standing and anywhere from 200-1000 in-game money.  As such, the game is just like this:

  1. Criminals and enforcers set their state to ready
  2. Criminals get put against enforcers
  3. Criminals have to destroy something, enforcers have to stop them
  4. Repeat.

If you see a criminal run over an NPC civilian and you want to chase him down and arrest him for it, guess what, you can't.  The entire game is based around a 4v4 team-deathmatch objective thing, like capture the flag, sabotage, demolition, whatever.  It just shouldn't be, it's not meant to be a third person shooter, it's meant to be an open-world crime based MMORPG/TPS.

The second thing is the people that play it.  If you don't have a group of friends or a clan to play with, you shouldn't really bother.  Random teammates are almost always stupid and they don't have a clue what they're doing, making it rather miserable for you.  Secondly, almost everyone that plays it is a total jerk with people calling you every insult under the sun, and then some.  Thirdly, there's a few hackers and the anti-cheat is either non-existent or really ineffective.

Another main problem with the game is the company that owns it, they don't really care too much about it or have any idea what they're doing.  All they've done is remove content, then add it back to their cash shop as "limited edition exclusives" and all that stuff.  The development team is a fraction of the size it once was when Realtime Worlds up in Dundee, Scotland developed it (and a game this big and ambitious that was created by a large development team needs a large development team) and while they're certainly very talented people (most of them are ex-Realtime Worlds employees), they simply don't have the money or the resources to do anything big with the game.  Back in 2010 there were two open-world districts in the city: Waterfront and Financial, with a third promised.  Today, three years later, there's still only the same, boring, two.

That all being said, the game is still fairly addicting when you first start playing it if you can overlook all of the flaws (and sometimes you just can't) and focus more on the good parts of it.  I think the best thing about it is the customisation by far, you can buy clothes and vehicles, and dress your character however you want, then apply your own symbols and stuff to their clothing (which you can design using up to 100 layers in the symbol editor), with the same going for cars.  You can make really cool stuff, like this car which I made last month:

Also, you can be a jerk yourself and grab a dump truck and smash the crap out of other players with it.  It's more fun than you might think, especially when you get a good hit and they blow up.  I guess if you're relatively good at shooting games, you might like it.  With the right weapon and teammates, the game can be pretty fun, and you can destroy virtually all opposition:

I got one of the boxed retail copies of the game for less than 10 bucks, it gives you 30 days of premium, a couple of permanent guns and some other stuff which is a rather good deal.  The game is fun for the most part I suppose, you just have to be with the right people.

I might try it out, it's free, after all. I don't plan on buying the full edition, or premium.

Is there only one police cruiser model? Or is there more, other than that reimagined Crown Victoria?

There are multiple kinds of cars.

I've thought about getting it, but I'm not 100% sure my computer will be able to run it decently. Mainly, I'm not even sure if my internet connection will be able to handle it. My internet speed is just (insert swear word(s) here)! My average download speed is less than 150 KB/s. Yes, 150 Kilo Bytes per Second! And upload, try less than 1 KB/s. And yes, you read that right. Our ISP says our download is supposed to be 1 MB/s. Well, 1 MB/s my A**! I really hope my parents will switch soon. I'm (insert swear word(s) here again) of it!

I loved the original game, although it was flawed. I reached rank 240 (Enforcer) in the six weeks before it shut down, I was a "founder" player. I had all elite weapons, two level III perks and one level II perk, 10 cars including two Mustangs, and a small clan. With APB: Reloaded they promised you'd get to keep all your stuff and your rank. Instead, when the game re-launched, I found out that they lied and only let you keep some clothing. No rank, no perks, no weapons, no cars, nothing. They made the vehicle and weapon physics even worse in my opinion, and the premium players earn money and whatnot 3 times as fast. I have no interest in spending $60 on a gun or car to keep it, or deal with a rent-a-weapon system. I miss APB the way it used to be. But oh well, RealTimeWorlds blew it. I feel bad for the staff that got laid off. I've had one of the community managers added on Facebook since before the game was taken offline. Lucky for him he moved to a job with NCSoft/Codemasters, and then to another job with SquareEnix/Eidos.

I think the only reason I'd start up the game these days would be to grief people with the vehicles. And even then the vehicles don't behave the same as they used to so it's not as fun. I used to have a van and a four-door pickup in game just for the purpose of vehicle griefing & counter griefing. I'm still lauhing at the thought of the last day of the game being officially online. A GM came to our server to say goodbye, but the GM's have their blips shown on the mini map at all times. So everyone in the whole server went to the blip and started vehicle griefing the GM. lol When you went to the spot, all you saw was a sea of cars. Basically like a huge mall parkling lot worth of cars surrounding, blocking in and slamming into the GM's little Cisco sports car. lol

Here's an example of some fun and all-too-common GTA griefing back when the original game was online.

This video is a great exampe of the 'grief stations' in-action:

What server do you guys play on, Sam? I haven't seen any of you guys in Colby so I'm guessing its not that. I made a video a little while ago showing off my collection of vehicles, just to show the diversity this game offers, customization wise.

This, being a month old, obviously isn't up to date, a bit has changed in my setup. The clan, if anyone was wondering, is San Paro Metro Police, run by Daedaelus.

The only fun I've had on that game? Getting a muscle car (fast acceleration) and hunting down the two door vehicle that can easily be flipped.

I like to think of it as a new urban sport.

At what level do I unlock the Crown Victoria?

I just played it for five minutes, and I was only given the option of driving a S**** two door compact police car.

The controls will take getting used to, but fun nothing less. You can't go wrong with a free game...well, maybe you can...but not this one.

Np. Yes I like my ghost cars. I normally use cars that look or are the same that criminals use also. And then I lightly color in the words police on the car, and make the badge hard to see.

I play on Patriot, might make a character on Joker as well.  Colby is dead as far as I understand, Patriot is pretty crap too.
