Those are "chip" type modules that allows for internet use in the car, or it's for the lighting, glad someone else noticed it, seeing as it's on every American/Canadian CVPI and they stick out like a sore thumb on undercover's of any kind.

There used for GPS, a police department by us have them. You will be seeing more of them because its a new technology that allows police officers to show location all the time.

Lets say a police officer is getting shot at if he puts in a help call dispatch will mark his squad car on the radar as red. Than every cop car in the area gets the call and what not than the GPS gives you the quickest rote to him. Even if there arnt any call you can still see where every cop car is. ( department cop cars)

Also it gives the quickest rout to lets say a house fire or bank robbery gives them the quickest rout to it.

Also like the other guy said, for internet and what not to its everything!

Those are GPS. It's so Dispatch can tell exactly where a car is incase they loose contact, or the car is stolen.

The GPS will become useful for 3 major instances:

1.) An officer forgets to call out his last known position and is in trouble.

2.) No need to have a pursuing officer waste his time calling out suspect positions every 5 seconds on the radio.

3.) Location guidance.
