Smooth Driving V 1.07

(24 reviews)

1 Screenshot

Description
This modification enhances keyboard and mouse driving in Grand Theft Auto V, by smoothing out throttle, brake and steering, providing a cruise control feature with auto-follow, and other miscellaneous improvements such as engine control, fuelling, etc. Aggressive driving is still possible, either by double tapping W/S, or enabling race mode (detailed user guide included in download).

Important

This mod is known to be incompatible with ikt's Manual Transmission, and Custom Gear Ratios. It may also be incompatible with other similar driving mods.

Features
     - Smooth acceleration/deceleration
     - Smooth, realistic steering (with steering angle hold outside of vehicle)
     - Ignition control (engine stays on when leaving vehicle)
     - Fuel consumption and refueling
     - Cruise control with auto-follow
     - Improved, automatic gearbox
     - Optional custom gear ratios
     - Compact and informative UI
     - Extensive configuration
     - Turn and hazard indicators with automatic cutoff

Planned Features
     - Odometer (have to figure out how this will work in game)

Known Bugs
     - UI may flicker when FPS fluctuates a lot

     - If Menyoo is installed, AI shifting will not work in certain spots (such as Vespucci beach)
     - Please report any further bugs

Installation
    1. Ensure you have the following installed:

          - ASI Loader (OpenIV > Tools > ASI Manager)
          - ScriptHookV (latest version)
          - ScriptHookV .NET (latest version)
    2. Navigate to the Grand Theft Auto V main directory.
    3. Go to the Scripts folder (part of ScriptHookV .NET, if such folder does not exist, create it).
    4. Unpack the archive that was downloaded into the Scripts folder (SmoothDrivingV.dll and the SmoothDrivingV folder should be alongside one-another inside the Scripts folder).

Changelog
     - V1.01:
          - Added sequential shifting
          - Added ability to disable smooth steering

So i did what the read me file says to do and i get absolutely nothing in-game, am i doing something wrong? do i have to put it in the directory with the actual script fold or just the stuff inside the folder?

Okay, so your script still seems to be giving me a hard time driving. Whenever i hold down "W" im almost holding still, even sometimes reversing cuz of the inability to move. How do i fix this?

I had the same issue, fixed by increasing the standardThrottle setting in the NMF3Settings.xml file to 0.75

Question:

Is there any way we can toggle between full throttle and standard throttle modes by pressing a key instead of holding it

feels annoying to keep a key pressed during all the chases

The idea was that you would use just W, but when you wanted to accelerate to a higher speed quickly, you would hold CTRL temporarily. Since you asked for it, I guess I'll have to add that. It'll just be a simple update.

Yes! And if I hit insert key it shows everything is fine. BBut like others in here, the car won't move at all

The standardThrottle setting is set to .1 by default, so that very small throttle can be applied unless CTRL is pressed. Try increasing standardThrottle to something like .4 in the NMF3Settings.xml, or pressing left CTRL.

It didn't change much. CTRL doesn't work too. And at first the car moves very slow and if I stop and try to accelerate again the throttle gets weaker and weaker.

Are you holding CTRL, or just pressing it?

Hmmm... since the car's driving is affected, my plugin clearly runs. Can you send me your NMF3Settings.xml file? Also, when I get home, I can send you a version of the plugin that displays the throttle as a subtitle - maybe that will give me more insight as to what's happening.

Sure!

This doesn't appear to be compatible with basiccruisecontrol, or I've installed the latter wrong.  The UI and stuff works but the vehicle continues to accelerate when I press the throttle key, probably because your mod is tweaking it in some way.  Is there any way you could potentially add a cruise control factor?

I could make a speed limiter that can be increased or decreased on the fly.

I can try, but ScriptHookVDotNet has no function that I can find to set the brake force, and native functions aren't working for me. I would very happily replace auto braking with reduced braking, and I am constantly trying to implement reduced braking.

That would be awesome.  At the moment I'm using a combination of Smooth Throttle, which lets you set a percentage throttle with the mousewheel, and Basic Cruise Control.

If you could add a speed limiter I'd really enjoy that because I love the additional features in your mod over BCC.

Update looks promising but I cant get the mod to work ingame, I have all the necessary script items and have a hidemap script that works fine but cant get this or even smooth throttle to work. Thoughts?

Anyone else having issues getting V4 to load? V3 was working fine, but just installed V4 following the instructions and it doesn't affect anything in game or seem to be loaded at all.

edit: never mind - forgot to install nativeui

Absolutely love this update! Only problem is that I can't seem to be able to find the button to change the max speed, as it is not stated in the xml file.
Other than that, amazing update!

You must ensure that you have NativeUI installed, as MickL said, because my plugin uses that library for UI elements.

Will this do anything at all for controller users? I like the idea of the braking..
