As JB said. It's very unlikely that you'll find any kind of server for free as it costs the host and thus, if they gave out free hosting, they wouldn't be able to sustain themselves. The most you're likely to get for free is a trial, which varies depending on the company, some don't even offer one! I used to be in the same situation as you. What I did was looked around on the internet for cheap hosts and those who might be willing to give a slight discount. (Didn't get many though :P).

Do you use any programs like Hamachi or Tunngle? I'm not 100% sure about Hamachi, but Tunngle has had a conflict with GfWL for me in the past. Make sure neither is running when you launch GTA, that is if you have either installed.
