  1. Technically all red is classic police colors, back in the day they just mounted a red beacon on top of police cars. And like I stated earlier in this post, they actually did a study (can't find it at the moment) where they tested which colors were most visible and they determined that red is the most visible in the day time and blue is most visible at night.
  2. I don't think that is true in all of Afghanistan, but it might be in some places. Depending on what they believe in (voluntarily or by force) it might be true. This is not true just because they follow Islam. There are plenty of places in the middle east and elsewhere in the world that follow Islam but are not as strict.
  3. LOL, you don't even know me. I know I'm not a religious person. I have no affiliation with any churches, I don't pray, I don't follow any big traditions that churches usually follow. What statement am I contradicting? All I said was you should become more educated on religions before you start talking about them. It is no different than any other subject, if I want to talk about history shouldn't I be educated on what I'm talking about before I start spewing random shit out? So why is it any different than religion? Just because you take a World Religion class doesn't automatically mean you are a religious person, it just means you are trying to expand your knowledge on a topic. I had to take English classes in college too does that make me an English teacher? I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do with their life, just making a suggestion that before you start saying such biased and unsupported claims you should become more educated in the topic, I would say that about any topic, not just religion.
  4. I see your point however I feel that out of all the shootings the happen in this country the majority of the time everything goes well (relatively speaking) and no innocent people are hurt. So while training doesn't happen as much most agencies would like I still would say that our police officers are well trained and able to handle most situations. And don't worry about the Army thing, I know you weren't trying to hold anything against me. I know why they didn't spend a lot of time training firearms with us, it was mostly because a lot of us weren't going into combat MOS's and with the budget cuts the military spends more time training the people who are actually going to be using it. My main point, like I've said before, is that we can't start judging what went wrong here without any details to the incident.
  5. Now I'm not saying that is what happened just saying there are several possibilites. We can sit here and examine all the different scenarios that could have happened and Monday morning quarterback each one of them, the only thing that will accomplish in the end is making us look like jackasses when the real details get released and we know what actually happened. It is unfortunate this happened and I'm sure they signed a liability wavier so I doubt there will be any legal issues between the family of the man and the police department. If in fact the camera crew somehow walked into a spot they probably shouldn't have gone to I will not fault them for that, they were just trying to do their jobs. In the end this is just an unfortunate accident that I'm sure the Cops camera crews and/or law enforcement agencies can learn from, until then we are just going to have to sit and wait patiently for more details.
  6. I'm not sure why you would need two insurance policies on one car unless you are conspiring to commit some kind of insurance fraud. The insurance is for the car and the people in the car, not you individually. So the car is insured and therefor anyone who drives the car is insured. Just use your mom's policy, if you are really itching to buy some insurance then offer to help your mom pay for the insurance she already has. All she has to do is add you onto that policy as a driver which might raise her rate a little but like I said, instead of buying another policy (which I don't think you can do) just offer to help your mom pay for the existing policy.
  7. What policies are failed here? What policy could have prevented this tragedy? Obviously you know something about this shooting that I don't. From all the articles I've seen it just says that a cops camera crew man was shot and that the police were the only ones doing the shooting. We don't know any of the details yet we are blaming training on this incident. Like I said before what if they inadvertently walked into the line of fire? Things happen quickly during these situations and some things are just unavoidable no matter how much training or experience you have. For all we know the guy could have accidentally stood up in front of someone's gun as they were firing at the suspect. Trust me I know why the Army doesn't have as much firearms training as they used to. I understand why it is that why I was just stating that I was disappointed. Again, grouping an entire nation of police officers into one group because you've talked to a few cops still doesn't justify making such a huge generalization. Now the fact that you later brought up some studies that back up your statement gives you a little more validity but just saying it is so because you've talked to a few police officers doesn't exactly cut it. I've talked to a few doctors but I couldn't tell you jack shit about their jobs. My overall point being is that with so few details out about the situation it frustrates me to see people already finding something wrong with the situation. It is no different than what the people in Ferguson did when Michael Brown was shot. They heard someone was shot and immediately started jumping to conclusions before an investigation had been completed and details released.
  8. Wow, both of you need to take a World Religions class if you go to college. What you guys both said about religion is completely wrong and I'm not even sure where someone gets ideas like those. I am by no means a religious man but I know that what you guys said is completely wrong and such a misguided view on religion. So like I said, if you guys ever go to college I encourage you to take a World Religion class and become educated on religions before making such ridiculous claims.
  9. Well I love to see all the jumping to conclusions about what the cops did wrong or what is wrong with policing today before we even have the full story. What if the camera crew had moved to another spot and didn't realize they had moved into crossfire? I'm sure when shooting starts happening things get intense and you might not know what you are walking into. For those of you complaining about the lack of firearms training, I will tell you that when I went through the police academy we spent an entire month at the range just shooting (at least that is how they do it in Florida). I actually got more firearms training in the police academy then I did when I joined the Army (I was pretty disappointed). Yes, training like that doesn't happen when you get to an agency usually but they do have opportunities for you to shoot besides just when you need to qualify. However, pretty much every department has issues with budgets and therefor cannot spend as much money conducting these training events as often. And by the way, there is no way any of us can know how often police train. Yes, I can tell you what many of my local area (when I lived in the states) agencies do for firearms training and how often they do it but I cannot make a HUGE generalization on every agency in America. So just because you know how often a couple agencies train and what their training consists of (which unless you work there or know someone who works there you probably don't know jack shit anyway) does not mean that you can now apply that to every agency in the U.S.
  10. Hope you had licenses to own fully auto weapons, wouldn't want the feds to come looking for you. I don't see why anyone under the age of about 15 or 16 should be using firearms. Most people I've met are still immature up until the age of 25 but at least by the age of 16 (usually) pretty much every kid understands what happens when you fire a weapon. I am saying this as someone who got their first rifle at the age of 10. I was 10 years old and my grandmother asked my parents if it was ok that she got me a single shot .22 rifle for Christmas which my parents said was fine. Now I have always been more mature than other people my age and always treated my rifle with respect and knew what it was capable of. I spent lots of time shooting it and everything turned out fine because my parents taught me well. However, 12 years later I look back and if I had been in my parents shoes I probably would not have done what they had done even though everything turned out ok. I still own that .22 and I also own a Glock 23 .40 caliber that I graduated the police academy with and I plan on buying a few more weapons so I have no issues with gun ownership or anything else those hardcore right wing NRA members like to accuse me of, I defend your 2nd amendment right but children who are still maturing have no business handling firearms. I have no issue with teaching kids about gun safety and all that good stuff but they don't need to fire one (especially a full auto) in order to be taught those lessons. We teach our kids sex ed but we don't then turn around and say ok now that I have taught you that lets go out and get you laid.
  11. Depends on what state you are living in. Each state has their own statutes regarding crimes, if you take the person you kidnapped across state lines (or into another country for that matter) then the FBI and possibly the US Marshals get involved as well. Like I said before, just depends on what state you are in; not only for the amount of time you could serve but also what the criteria for the crime is. Most states have similar or the exact same criteria for a crime but it isn't always the case.
  12. The Office (U.S. Version) and Southland had good runs, I would have liked to see them go on longer though. Unfortunately both of those shows started going down hill after a while. I guess if Southland had continued going down the path it was going I probably would have stopped watching it. I wish they produced more episodes of The Wire on HBO because I've never seen another show that good since. It was the most amazingly produced series I've ever seen and I didn't want it to end when I finished the last season. And of course Alaska State Troopers was the only good reality cop show (Cops can be cool but it puts out a horrible view on the law enforcement profession). Just read the article that they are taking a break from it (being in the military I haven't kept up with TV a lot in the past 11 months), I can understand the reasoning but it is disappointing. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/alaska-state-troopers-hiatus-national-geographic-series-article-1.1845551
  13. Sorry man, I thought you meant the original Chargers, never heard anyone refer to the 2006 Charger as "the classic Charger". Personally I thought the 2011-2014 Chargers looked the meanest. Each time the Charger has come out (including the 2006 model) I have hated the way they looked but eventually after seeing them enough they kinda grew on me. Only thing that sucks is Dodge has had really bad reliability problems with the Charger (at least the 2006-2010 models), haven't heard anything on the seventh generation models (2011-present).
  14. Being someone who has spent time in law enforcement I find it hard to watch most cop TV shows or movies because I find myself always criticizing the way things are done even if I know it is only a movie (I turned off End of Watch after the first 5 mins because it was too ridiculously unrealistic and makes police look bad in my opinion). One of the few series I was able to watch though is The Wire. It is an HBO series and I found it to be really well done and such a good series, not saying it is 100% realistic but it is still really good. Someone mentioned 44 Minutes which I have seen and it is alright, I didn't find it very interesting probably because I already knew the storyline and how it would end. My all time favorite police movie is Super Troopers but I don't think you are looking for a comedy.
  15. I think what he is referring to is the fact that it is the same thing just meant for people at home on an individual license (maybe someone who works from home or runs their own small business, etc).
  16. *Sigh* I feel like I'm talking to myself. Read my post that is above yours, I am talking about virtual memory, not physical memory. Getting more than 16GB of physical RAM sticks is overkill anyway. My PC has 16GB and I probably don't even need that much. My point being, I would not recommend to the OP (or anyone else for that matter) buying Windows 7 Ultimate, I would just go with Home Premium 64 bit and save yourself the couple hundred dollars or whatever the difference is.
  17. Sorry, should have been more clear. I meant virtual memory, not physical memory. Regardless, it is all pretty much irrelevant because all PC games are written in 32 bit so the game can only use up to 4GB of RAM no matter how much RAM you actually have. EDIT: If you scroll all the way to the bottom of this link and look at Table 5 you'll see what I'm referring to. The 32 bit OSs only support up to 4GB physical and virtual memory where as the 64 bit systems support up to about 16TB of virtual memory (basically unlimited because who is going to need more than 16TB of memory lol). http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/32-bit-and-64-bit-explained.htm
  18. The edition of Windows 7 has nothing to do with if it can support unlimited amount of RAM, that has to do with what bit the OS is in. 32 bit OS can only use up to 4GB of RAM while 64 bit OS can use unlimited RAM. So you can go with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and still get the ability to use unlimited amount of RAM without having to pay for Ultimate, which unless you are going to be using some of the really advanced features is pointless to buy and a waste of a couple hundred dollars. As far as gaming goes though, most (if not all) games are written in 32 bit code so the game itself can only use up to 4GB of RAM even if your OS can support unlimited amount of RAM. Bottom line, go with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, it supports unlimited amount of RAM and does everything you will need it to do. All the extra features that Professional and Ultimate have are just overkill and things that you will never use. As far as the rest of your setup goes, at a glance it looks fine. The only thing I would look at is maybe getting a full tower case instead of the mid tower. I recently built my new PC that has the GTX 780Ti Classified Edition and I was going to get a mid tower as well because I didn't want something that was going to take up a lot of space however a friend of mine convinced me to get a full tower and I don't regret it because the 780 is a HUGE card and takes up a lot of space inside the computer. Just make sure that everything will fit inside your case. Also depending on what your budget is you might want to consider getting an SSD, nothing wrong with HDDs but my personal preference is SSDs because they are smaller, faster, and more secure (in terms of deleting personal data from them). I bought a 1TB Samsung internal SSD for my PC and it is awesome.
  19. Hey now! I know south Florida isn't really considered "the south" but they have lots of agencies with red/blue lights down there. Actually they did a study several years ago and found out that red is more visible during the day time and blue is more visible during the night time. For me it I guess it just depends on what mood I am in. Just no all red (hate that NY does that)! Sometimes I think the all blues look really good then sometimes I enjoy having the red and blue. I grew up in Fairfax County, VA (just outside DC) and the county PD up there runs all blue then I moved to Tampa, FL where they run red and blue. I have noticed that having white strobes makes the lights stand out a lot more.
  20. He isn't being a pessimist, he is just paraphrasing an article and being neutral. It is good that he is reading as many articles as he can, that is how you learn stuff.
  21. I would argue that the performance you would get from taking out two or three things from the car is negligible especially when you consider how much stuff they put back into the car. I have removed back seats from a couple of civilian cars and yes, they aren't light but they don't weigh a ton either.
  22. My favorite comedies are 40 Year Old Virgin, Office Space, Inglorious Basterds, and of course Super Troopers.
  23. That system is fine as it is. You shouldn't need to do any upgrading to it. Just remember that GTA IV is getting old and its code is not the greatest so if you have issues with your game don't automatically assume it is your PC. But like I said, those system specs are plenty fine for IV.
  24. Exactly, so a "gutted" police car isn't really saving any weight or adding performance to the car. The only reason they take that stuff out is so you can put more stuff in. I would be curious to put on of our patrol cars on a scale and see how much they weigh with all that extra gear and equipment.
  25. It is a little more complicated than that, you can't just group an entire nation into one category because not everyone in America is racist. Many factors play into why people are racist, a big part of it is how you were raised. And to say its the entire nation's fault is a little extreme. There is nothing I can do to make sure people aren't jackasses, I physically can't be in every home in America to make sure people are teaching their children good values.
