Incidentally, the patch *does* fix various bugs; it's not like R* did it primarily as anti-modding.

What, the modqueuing new members? In part, yes. It also helps deal with trolls, and with common newbie mistakes (like posting in old threads) without bothering everyone else.

A) Names are not subject to copyright. They're subject to trademark. The laws are very different. B) We have unregistered trademarks; we have not attempted to register them. It's unclear we could if we wanted to; those guys tried registering SAPDFR, but were rejected for similarity to Rockstar's trademark (we'd have the same problem). C) We aren't particularly interested in suing people for making mods. D) They used SAPDFR for GTA SA with permission. For V, see the link Sonny236 posted.

Rockstar can't block mods. To paraphrase a webcomic, "Being immune to modding is like being immune to surgery." Modding involves replacing system libraries that the game has to load, in order to launch our own code, which then directly writes, reads, and jumps to locations in memory in order to do what we want. You can't prevent this; it's something that will always be possible with code executed on your own computer. Rockstar tries pretty hard to block modding. The encrypted files? That's an anti-modding thing. The fact that the whole game executable is essentially encrypted on disk, and decrypted when loaded? Anti-modding. Modding involves working around things specifically designed to prevent it. Because of the nature of GTA Online (i.e. same files as V), it is extremely difficult to separate V modding from Online modding. Any such separation would have to be purely because the modder wants it; Rockstar can't enforce it. To use the hashes as an example, having different hashes online and in story is sheer madness. V and Online are the same game; Rockstar advertises them separately, but internally they're different modes of the same thing.

G17 Media has closed-source projects as a rule. I'm not exactly sure why you feel like we should be talking about events and exceptions, or giving technical details of the hook, given that very few people would have the slightest idea what that means (as for "how you load scripts into memory," it works exactly the same way as for IV -- replace a DLL that the game will try to load, have your replacement DLL pass through most stuff to the real one but also load all .asi files in the game directory as DLLs and execute their main method; the .asi (which is really a DLL) has a hook as a dependency, and uses a function in that hook to register itself with the game as a script, which causes its code to be executed by the game). People aren't mad at you because you said something negative, people are reacting because your response sounded like "You're not giving technical details that you never release and that almost no one cares about in your teaser, so clearly you haven't done anything." You will likely not see such a dev page at any point; that's not how the dev team operates. If you ask nicely, there's a chance they'll reply with more technical details, but they're less likely to do that if your tone is how it's been. I do find it odd how you apparently think they should have faked footage to show what's planned, instead of showing the actual progress they've made. Your reaction was "I can fake that, so it doesn't show me the progress made." That's not how showing progress works. In fact, it's basically the opposite of "really showing progress."

Read this post and follow the steps. If the diagnostics tool says all is well, then skip to chapter 4 and follow the instructions there. We cannot help you with the information you've provided; the logs you're telling people not to ask about are absolutely necessary for anyone to have the slightest idea of the issue. There are no supported versions of LCPDFR before 1.1. Also, thread moved.

Here's a reason: When there's a mod like ELS, it means the car modding community is split. People who don't like ELS are shut out of a lot of IV police car mods, because most are ELS-only. Split modding communities are never ideal.

Where Credit Is Due
Admittedly, I didn't play IV till patch 7, but IV didn't have massive input lag that made the game unplayable if I continuously played for too long and made a mission (the yoga one) completely impossible, even when input lag wasn't an issue in free roam immediately before. I'm assuming the switchable graphics thing will be fixed at some point with a patch, but I have trouble calling a game where I literally cannot get it to process the commands required to complete a story mission a good port. I like V as a game, because the game itself is quite wonderful (albeit with some less-than-perfect things, but that's more a matter of opinion and it gives me something to try to mod to what I like better). But the port? It doesn't crash, but it has some serious issues.

Meh. When they fix it so it doesn't crash on startup on computers with switchable graphics, and if/when they change things to deal with massive input lag on lower-end hardware, I'll give them more props.

Is it just me?
Why does anyone else care how many times you've beaten 11-year-olds in IV? You beat middle-schoolers. Congratulations. Buy a medal. Age, and real driving experience, has nothing to do with anything here. If you actually know how to drive, you know it's traditionally done with input devices known as a "steering wheel" and "pedals," neither of which is simply on-off (unlike video game driving). Controlling a car with a keyboard is significantly more challenging than with something that lets you control your turn radius, speed up or slow down a little bit, etc. Furthermore, real driving is generally not done at high speed weaving through traffic, as GTA demands that you drive. Even real emergency vehicle operators drive much more cautiously than you can get away with driving in GTA; this is even more significant when you realize that there are no good speed cues in a GTA game (unlike real life), unless you spend a huge amount of time playing games and so get used to what's fast and what's slow. And if I have to drive in a way that'd be sane in real life, why am I playing a game in the first place? GTA IV may be "realistic" in that its cars handle like real cars would if driven like people drive them. But video game cars aren't driven like real cars; on PC, you can't effectively drive them like real cars, because you have very limited controls. And driving GTA-style isn't something you do in real life. At some point, technical realism doesn't feel real, and/or significantly harms gameplay value. IV's driving constantly broke immersion; car controls simply didn't control the path of the car (it's more like they loosely influenced it).

I actually drive a car, and I think the handling in V feels more right than that in IV. IV is more realistic, but the issue is that GTA driving styles and real driving styles only mildly resemble each other. With IV, the handling was my enemy -- it interfered with just about anything I wanted to do, because you can't actually drive really fast and turn on a dime. With V, the handling is much less noticeable, because cars basically do what you tell them to do (which is also more like how real driving works in normal situations).

Rambar- Yay or nay?
If your car is blocking the road, you may not have a choice -- the police need to clear you off that road. Pushbars aren't meant to be used for ramming; they often have nothing to do with PIT maneuvers (which use the front quarter of the car, often more than could be covered by even a wraparound pushbar), and *ramming* (as distinct from PIT) isn't a common police tactic outside of GTA (low-relative-speed ramming doesn't have a huge effect, high-relative-speed ramming is lethal to all involved). PITs are used fairly often in urban areas; they require enough pursuing cars to actually bring the suspect into custody after the PIT (you can't PIT by yourself), and roadblocks are very *uncommon* (as they're very dangerous, far more so than PITs). A pursuit in a city is a serious danger to pedestrians, so stopping it quickly is important. Pushbars exist for traffic control, not for pursuits. They aren't designed for high-speed impact (in fact, they make high-speed impact much worse, by not having a crumple zone and bending the car frame). Modding and V
The reason companies care about things like the police outfit or storing emergency vehicles is that that involves you exploiting the game, whether via mods or via glitches, to get something they didn't want you to have. Companies care a lot if you're exploiting the game; it's the same reason Microsoft would ban anyone with a strangely-colored avatar from Xbox Live: there was no way to get the avatar except by modding/exploits, and what they were punishing was that. Rockstar doesn't want people to start thinking it's OK to exploit glitches in GTA Online. As for police protagonist: While they have done lots and lots of "criminal" games, you're forgetting the part where said games give them essentially a license to print money. I don't think they're thinking they need to shake things up.

LSPDFR and Cooperative Policing
As it turns out, blocking all mods isn't actually possible. You can't prevent someone from modifying their local game through technical means; the only way to respond is to do stuff where mods can't affect it (i.e. server-side) and, relatedly, banning people who are caught with mods (which generally pretty much just happens if there's a complaint, although I can see them going more strictly than that).

My thoughts and wishes...
In an urban area, police cars are much more common than in rural areas (and from a quick search, it looks like Conroe TX is fairly low population density). When I visited LA, I saw cops on patrol every day. There aren't NYC levels of presence, but there are plenty of cops.

Modifications
You could potentially command the game to send "gimme money" updates to the server. Of course, Rockstar could respond by noticing people who accumulate money suspiciously and banning them, which is how most online games deal with that sort of thing.

That's what Rockstar claims. Whether it's true or not depends on local law; an EULA does not trump the laws of a country.

Modding and V
Trainers work differently than native mods. A trainer essentially hooks into the game as a debugger and modifies a few specific areas of memory (e.g. the structure containing player health, or player location, or weapon properties [which I suspect is how super punch works]) to achieve the desired effect. Script modding is far more complicated because the things it does typically involve much more interaction with the game. Trainers are fairly easy to write quickly with the aid of tools like Cheat Engine; native mods involve lots of research into the internal functionality of the game.

LSPDFR Beta?
There is no LSPDFR beta yet. There is no LSPDFR alpha yet. GTA V for PC came out less than a week ago; this is the very, very early stages of modding (i.e. the "let's see how this thing works" stages). Furthermore, if/when a mod does come together and it does get to testing, it's unlikely to be open signups. As such, I'm closing this thread.
