warrants

Hey guys i have an amazing suggestion to make lcpdfr more realistic. how about during a traffic stop we can check to see if the driver or passengers have any warrants, and if we get close up on a vehicle it'll we will automatically ask us if we want to run their plates. Also if we could check random people for warrants. that would really be cool. by the way keep up the awesome job.

Very good thought. To tie into it, I'd like to see a "Why'd you run?" dialogue when you catch them, and they might say "I don't wanna go back to jail" or something like that. If you can't tell, I'm a big COPS fan. Maybe a DUI system would be nice to. "Have you had anything to drink this evening?"

If possible, I think custom voice overs would do a lot for this game if there was a way to insert them.

Agreed. Talking may bore some people, but I think dialogue really immerses you in the role. A DUI stop would be fun I think.

You: Officer Sullivan, Liberty City Police Department. Do you have any idea why I stopped you this evening?"

*Option menu*

You: You've been stopped for reckless driving. Can I see your license, registration and proof of insurance please?"

*Current suspect info*

You: Have you had anything to drink this evening?

*Driver: Yes/No (50/50 chance) - (In this case, yes.)*

You: Step out of the vehicle please

*Some sort of new key command performing a quick DUI test, with the suspect facing the officer.*

They can either refuse the test and run or comply and maybe it could be a 50/50 chance if they're drunk or not.

We can add WAV voice overs into the game easily, as shown with "Mission success" sound. We just need a person with a pretty voice =)

My thoughts exactly. I don't think volunteers would be hard to find, especially with the community enthusiasm about this mod. They would just have to be adults, and put on a fairly convincing performance into a quality mic. I remember making my own custom radio station in GTA III. All of them were basically just a really huge .MP3 on a loop (like some real radio stations for that matter). It was easy to open up a program like Cool Edit Pro (now called Adobe Audition), do some recording on a halfway decent mic and be the DJ after selecting some music. I even had some stock music, instrumentals of popular songs and some dumb ideas for fake commercials like on the in-game radio stations. It was fun "living the dream", so to speak.

Re-voice the entire character. The ones in the game don't match up 100% as it is. Sometimes I hear a mix of country-cop with New York cop. Or Mexican cop with New York cop, as a couple of examples. I'd suggest a pool of maybe a half dozen new voice packs (and yes, still keep the existing ones), or something along those lines.

The only problem is that the person's accent would have to correspond with the police guy's accent.

To be honest, I wouldn't care at all. I'd rather play the game with no voice at all (à la Vice City :whistling:) and with features than no features with voices.

I mean gameplay should go first, and you know how much more awesome it will get if we ever get to understand that part of programming. We need to focus on functionality rather than prettiness. Indeed it must come as well, but something like a voice accent change is just very common in GTA IV itself.

My suggestion, try and implement features, then try and implement pretty effects for it.

I completed a year of programming in college before I decided it wasn't for me, so I understand that building a skeleton comes first. That skeleton however eventually has to have some muscle, skin and hair once it's built. Opening a basic, blank window in Windows XP takes around 5,000 lines of code to render it completely, so I can appreciate the value of the hard work that goes into computer software. That's why I always buy my games. I don't mind at all waiting for features. But I think what we were talking about above is playing off of what already exists in the game/mod. Just simply enhancing it. I think not having any voice overs (as in taking away the current ones) would be a disaster. Slightly flawed as they may be, anybody can hit a bunch of buttons all day. I think we would all like it if they did something more than skip on to the next menu, unless this was a game like Dragon Age of Mass Effect. :P

*EDIT*

Also, I loved Ray Liotta's voice in GTA: Vice City. I think it went well with the character.

Also it would be kinda nice if this would happen somewhere on the sidewalk or something other than the middle of the road.

I like this whole idea! Seems great!

Yes, a check for warrants would be great. Maybe it could come out through the ID check? Warrant found! Then you could issue a citation, suspect out of the vehicle or let them go.

Nothing is stopping me from driving up the road 5 miles, to my police station to get them to record some WAV files. They have always said they would help me out if I needed any police stuff for "school projects." This is OBVIOUSLY a school project :) (I live in a VERY small town, so they are usually all sitting in the station waiting for calls.)

I never even thought of simply asking for real volunteers. That's an amazing idea. I think a lot of them would like the idea of having a game revolve around police work instead of the other way around.

The one thing we need to make sure of is that a script is written using police lingo, or if we give them something to say, they need to say it how they would normally. Not as it's written to the letter.

There are two problems with adding new speech, 1 You would need to re-record ALL speech from EACH officer to avoid the difference in voices, 2 there are 316 sound clips in M_Y_COP_WHITE with 16 cop speech files! that would take ages to re-record, one solution would be to use the FSX method for ATC of splicing together existing files to make speech like with EditVoicepack.

You are using the WRONG right theme!

Well

1.) Voices already conflict as it is, so I can't see it getting much worse.

2.) We can consolidate the number of possible voices for now. I already dislike having a random southern/New York/Mexican/black accent on cops that look Caucasian.

Start small and work your way up over time.
