Ekalb's Thread of Unimpressive Mods

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm very much a beginner at this sort of things (vehicle modding moreso than ped texturing) but nonetheless I thought I'd compile all my WIPs into a single thread so I can stop polluting the gallery for one. Don't expect anything high poly or flashy or even ELS enabled, things are just simple for the time being.

Slicktop Vincent is ready to go, fully marked is just a bit behind, Rebla needs a redo.

But experimenting last night with the traffic advisor on the Vapid really got me thinking about the possibilities. I pretty much taught myself how to get it to work but I understand it now. The possibilities with just indicators and the indicator mod or the strobes mod are great, without ELS even having to be involved at all. I should have some ready for first release soon :)

Agreed with Justin, I'm really liking that slicktop Vapid and the Vincent

That Vincent would've been my favorite if it were to have a different rambar than that classic NYPD pushrod.Anyhow,no love lost...

Alright here's an example of what I've been doing with non-els traffic advisor bars and the indicator mod.

2012062900003.jpg

8-component traffic advisor bar with arrows to direct traffic following a pullover. I've also had to edit the indicators and taillights of the Vapid to accomodate these changes but it's not a problem. It looks great when you have the strobes mod fully activated though.

I might do a video that shows off all these traffic bars that I've been doing.

Yeah well I figure that I've used a vapid cruiser that someone else provided unlocked and open for editing, the same with Sam's lightbar and Lt Caine's lightbar so I'd definitely release everything as open and I might even do a police equipment pack that just has all computer/radio/walkie talkie/traffic advisers that I've made or pulled out of the default cars.

uuummm

great work i love it when people use the stuff that already availble to them and not try to do something that out of their league

but one thing i want to mention is that lightbar, the whelen edge isnt sam's.

if i'm correct it's kevindv's that he released a while ago.

but other than that i think you did an excellent job with these models and i applaued you

Video showing how two of the vehicles are with their traffic advisor bars. I was experimenting with an LED board but it isn't progressing too well. I'll probably have the Vapid up later this week.

Update!

Slicktop Vapid Cruiser is now released:

Both variants of the Maibatsu Police Vincent are now released:

I have also worked on a little mod of the Vapid slicktop to have the traditional hubcaps and an extra set of lights in the sun visor:

I'm happy to do a few custom mods like that if people want different light positions but I think the next big project will be revisiting the Rebla.

edit: Would anyone be able to describe how the white parts of Sam's non-els whelen lightbar seem to lightup while ingame? They don't appear to be attached to anything special like indicators or headlights. Maybe it's just the texture they are mapped to?

Very nice, but would it be possible to have a normal lightbar spawn in addition to the slicktop? Something like this car from Caine, though if there isn't a way to stop it from spawning on the unmarked livery, it would look slightly silly. Still, an option would be nice.

  • Author

I think that works by attaching two different light setups to 'extra' parts but like you said, it could end up spawning a totally unmarked car with a lightbar so that occasion (like a 1 in 8 chance under normal conditions?) would be a bit funny. I might play around with it though, thanks for the idea.

Glad I could help.

And heck maybe they were in the middle of re-decaling or de-lighting a cruiser and it needed to be on the street. /flimsy rationalization.

I like these, keep that up! Especially the gray on the unmarked one. Gray really makes it look detectivy. You make the full template gray, or did it with the handling?

Do you mean on the stealth slicktop Vincent? The decals (ie the police markings) are gray images but the rest of it is transparent. The base paint gray/silver colour is just from some colours I added to the carcols line. They're in the readme if you're after the colour codes.

  • Author

Ooooh right my mistake!

Yeah similar story, it's just showing the transparent livery so the base car paint is visible. Again it's modded carcols. I think the colour code is 3,3,103,
