Why no more non-els vehicles as compared to els?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am a person who uses non-els cars over els cars. I see the value of els and respect it but I also see the value of non-els equivalent vehicles and I just wondering why car creators have simply chosen to make els vehicles the preferred type of vehicle made over the stock lighting version of mod vehicles? I mean I do not have a problem with people making els over non-els this is just a thing that has been pondering my mind for a long time ever since els has been released.

No sir, ELS's system is quite different from the original lighting. Original lighting vehicles (that aren't lore) would require an edited carcols.ymt which can get really messy depending on the amount

In my opinion I think modders focus on ELS due to the "pros". A massive quality of life feature that I have always wanted is regarding headlights/takedowns. With GTA 5 if you put on high beams and get out of vehicle even with leaving the vehicle turned on, the high beam light dims and loses the extra range. ELS makes it so this does not occur even with takedowns. ELS can be customized to change the flash patterns to the users liking, same with what siren tones are allowed. Some vehicles before ELS had none or little environmental lighting, It seems that this is very easy to do with ELS as I have yet to see an ELS vehicle with no environmental lighting.

Hopefully someone who does vehicle modding could chime in if ELS vehicles are "easier" to make then non ELS. I say this as the lights are linked to extras, barely any ELS vehicles require carvariation  Carcol edits. In saying that some popular vehicle modders have only released very few cars sometimes only 1 since ELS has came out (that could be for many other reasons).

I get there are many pros to ELS which is great for the community but I also wish in some way that besides the few packs that are out there that people maybe do an equivalent amount of work on both sides because im sure that people who wanna play with custom car mods but cant because of the fact that there are not a lot of cars that are non-els and thats where I kinda wonder if there was a way to make the development time on both sides equal. Like ELS vehicles and non-els vehicles take the same amount of time to make.

This is just my opinion of course but couldn't there be a way to link lights to the extras? Also hopefully there can be a way to make stock-lights work the same as els.

ELS vehicles are easier to do because you don't have to worry about carcols and making certain lights do certain things.  Plus, ELS is way better than non-els unless you are on FiveM and you like having non-els vehicles so your lights are synced.

I mean but wouldn't both be able to do just as easily? But hey I'm not a modder so I cant comment, I only know what I know as I play.

No sir, ELS's system is quite different from the original lighting. Original lighting vehicles (that aren't lore) would require an edited carcols.ymt which can get really messy depending on the amount of car mods you're using. Carcols however, is a great use for rotary lighting and my vehicles. I include it with my ELS vehicles to show for what ELS lacks.

^It's also a much easier system to utilize and requires a lot less confusion and clutter. Although the environmental lighting ELS is quite poor, I prefer to use ELS for the extras, and carcols.ymt for coronas and lighting effects.

All in all, ELS is a much better experience than non-ELS, which is why there are rarely non-ELS models uploaded.  Aside from the features ELS provides, the lights just look 10x better and you can do more with them.  Also, as someone who has previously installed several standalone cars, there are still a lot of variety to choose from with non-ELS vehicles. You just need to look through the vehicles downloads and choose "non ELS" when searching.  I know you're wanting newer non-ELS content, but I don't see that happening.  ELS is the "norm" now, and I strongly encourage using it if you want new content.  (Honestly, new content is just a minor reason to use it when you compare all of ELS's other features)

To add onto what Kallus said, it took quite a long time for ELS to be released to the public. There are many non-els vehicles that are arguable better than a good chunk (in my opinoin) of what has been released for ELS. Anything by Gump, Black Jesus, BxBuggs, theHurk, Walters, Pricefield; I could keep naming but you get the point. Most likely, you could find enough vehicles to fill your game just using three of the authors I just listed. I love ELS but my favorite tahoe of all time has to be Gump's non-ELS Kershaw County Slicktop tahoe. Think of new as new-to-you. Find a model you haven't used yet and Bam! New model!

He can find more than enough.  I install standalone cars, and before ELS, I had a shit ton in my game.  The variety is there, and there are some non-ELS models over on GTA 5 mods that weren't released here.  Not a lot, but some.  Also something to point out, there are a lot of light-editing based mods that came out long before ELS and were meant to help improve the lighting.

Oh, I should state that most if not all lore vehicles are non-ELS. Occasionally if I see fit, I put out some non-ELS vanilla releases. Most will be featured in the upcoming LEI update. Some I haven't released yet, I'll probably let LEI do that.

Much harder to make for no reason. Plus most people stay off it now that ELS is here. I mean there are no possible cons on switching to ELS cars so why do you want to keep downloading only a few variety of cars just because of the non els model?

No, its not easier to make both. Modding takes time and effort. Specially when changing carcols files...

You mean the run off the road violently feature? Who doesn't disable that in the .ini? It's basically worthless.

I will say, that's the one downside to ELS.  If it worked flawlessly it would be a good feature.  I'm not sure why it wasn't coded in that if you're on a traffic stop don't have an affect on the stopped vehicle.  Then again, you do have to honk your horn if you want them to find a new spot, but most people use mimic me.

Aside from the glowthrough "LOD Coronas", environmental effects, hardly functioning takedown and scenelighting, non functioning 2nd lighting stage, and undeletable beeps. Then yeah :^)

My biggest pet peeve with ELS is the fact that the controller key controls are not modifiable.

Personally I like how the keys are.   ELS even disables your in-vehicle controls for the keys it uses so there's no conflicting.  I love pressing B and not having a cinematic camera.

That's more nitpicking and personal experience.  The only audio from ELS I hate is the little clicking when your lights are on.  Other than that, takedowns and scene lighting have worked flawless for me.

I have those disabled anyway with FreeMyController. My problem is that you can't change the keybindings in case they conflict with other keys you have with other plugins.
