GTAPoliceMods - The Shutdown Megathread

Recommended Posts

Because someone decided to bump the thread really stupidly, we're going to have to start a new topic. Let's get some things straight.

GTAPOLICEMODS HAS CLOSED DOWN, AND WILL NOT RETURN. Sure, we were slightly malinformed, but if the infrastructure and pageviews are failing, its what they have to do.

MODELS ARE NOT CURRENTLY DOWNLOADABLE. This is the most serious effect - two of my mods cannot be used with non-els cars now, a large percentage of LCPDFR models retextures cannot be used because the site is down.

A MOD ARCHIVE IS TO BE SET UP ON HIGHSPEED-GAMING.COM, HOWEVER NO DATE HAS BEEN GIVEN.  BxBugs told me, however, nothing much has happened since. However, he has released some 'critical' GTA IV mods onto the site by one or two people's request. Currently, we have to wait patiently until the archive is up and running to get your mods back.

I hope this is informative for you. Its a real shame it had to close down, and I wish everyone the best who is trying to recover and reupload.

EDIT: It's nearly been five months since I created this topic, and nearly a whole year on, we've had no answer. GTAPoliceMods is well and truly dead. The odds of it coming back are starting to slim out, and reuploading of mods has not happened. I would reupload what I have in my folders, but for one, it is technically piracy, and also, I may not possess all that is required for some of the mods.

But worry not! The fight isn't over! There is still hope it will come back. Someday.

Now I don't mean to call BxBugs out, but... Well it's probably a lie to get people off of his back. He doesn't want to hear it so he tells us there will be a database. I mean I can't blame him, but still. It's a pain for us and I don't think the ex-staff or High Speed Gaming staff cares.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I've been looking through the wayback machine, and I've managed to find some salvaged pages from 2011-2014 or so. You can't download anything, sadly, but you can view some user profiles. So far, however, you can't view specific profiles - when looking at downloads under archived URLs, its a guessing game as to who is who.

Here's the link for your salvaging.

Current update:

Today I found two mods that were archived under the Wayback Machine - the ELS Sultan and the ELS Huntley. I was so glad that the pages were archived, and hoped that like that RUC video I came across on the old RUC site, the mods were downloadable.

This, unfortunately, was not the case. Whoever decided to archive the pages on the 10th of November 2014 did not bother to archive the downloading page, sadly, leaving us only to view the description. But I think there's still hope, no matter what controversy arises, that someday, we'll get the mods back. Someday.

Some NYPD ELS vehicles I was looking for were inaccessible because of this... any updates yet?

Sadly, friend, looks like we've got nothing. I've tried the archives, but the downloads turned up nothing.

Its not nice having to come back to this thread. In fact, its quite sad having to come back to this thread in the first place.

I've come to realise that we may have been forgotten about, us remaining few in the GTA IV modding community. Sure, GTA V is a greater (if you will, I literally can't play it) game for police modding, with bigger, lively worlds, but us minorities have stuck around through it all, on the long modding haul - I started, personally, back in 2013. Since then, however, drama has erupted in the modding community - KevinDV had a hissy fit and deleted his mods...and then randomly disappeared, two popular British pretty much hate each other, and the legality and opinion of modding is getting antsy.

I could see why GTAPoliceMods would close down - as a site grows older, it becomes harder to maintain (didn't even work on mobile a few years back), but if less and less people come to the site, why bother maintaining and throwing the money into the memory hole? It is a similar reason why GTAGaming closed - maintenance. And most great sites may fall victim to this too.

However, we could have been warned. I never saw any mention of impending closure of the site, mostly because I didn't go to the forums. But suddenly, one day in February 2017, we were greeted with an 'account suspended' screen. No final words, no sayonaras, nothing but an error screen. And obviously, you know what this means - everything is lost. We can't get the mods we want or need anymore because the site closed. Such a tragedy, if you will, and a sign of things to come.

While I appreciate the circumstances, I do, however, wish it were not this way. Since I last saw the eternal doom, the site has changed - now, we are greeted with a '508 Resource Limit is Reached' error. And at the same time, HighSpeed-Gaming.com thought the fart was safe, and loudly sharted everywhere, and now it's down. So both sites, at the same time, have rather sequential errors. Are the servers still linked? Who knows - hopefully a form of backup there wasn't lost.

So, to the reason as to why I came back to this thread. Once again, I need to vent. I currently have a mod I'm about to release which cannot be used by anyone who didn't download the original car before the site closed. It is another Merit mod, and it makes me feel guilty that many may not be able to actually use the mod. I'll still put it up, though, in the hopes an alternative can be found.

The thing is, there probably won't be. I've got a bad feeling we've either been forgotten about, or we've had it witheld for reasons unknown. Either way, it makes me feel sad a little. At least, however, some are reuploading their mods here, however, we just need them all back. So here's what I think the site owners should do - open up the site to downloads only, and keeping the site frozen in time as it used to be before closure, like GTAGaming ended. I'm not pressuring in a way that there will be consequences, its just that we need the downloads back so the GTA IV modding community can survive for years to come.

well since I have the infrastructure required to maintain something like this and I admit I like GTA IV as well if authors are wanting a place like this for their GTA IV mods I don't mind helping out....though to avoid any legal issues I would have to ask if people are interested in this to at least have the authors give permission if they would want it hosted on a site I could make to help out the gta iv community.

My plugins by me are on this site in addition to my own site as well.

Do Not PM Me for Support! follow the instructions for getting support with any mods.

I just wished modders released dev stuff. I mean why can't they just release stuff to make people happy? Or let them have fun? I think to most modders, "happy", and "fun" are foreign to too many of them.

And I was going to make retextures for some of the cars on here - probably make a decent command van. But that's lost.

Still waiting on the archive...

I wouldn't get your hopes up, I know it must be frustrating, however BxBugs123 has since moved from a directorate position to a developer position, and therefore I highly doubt they'll ever actually make an archive available. HSG really has transitioned from a downloads site into a community site for our FiveM servers, and majority of the attention goes towards those efforts. Additionally, both internal and external development staff of HSG (including Bugs) have been on some extended leave.

Sorry mate, but it honestly may just be a lost cause. Good luck with it all fellas.

If so, that'll probably leave a nasty taste in my mouth, metaphorically. I don't like empty promises, and this just makes me want to do...something about it.

I wish I had the power, and the authorisation, to reupload mods here. Oh shame. Guess the non-ELS modders have to suffer.

This is what I hate about "big" modders. Most are just jerks who don't care about the community and are just modding for themselves or to have the community bow down and say how much they love them. Messed up world I swear.
