LSPDFR Australia Discussion Thread

Featured Replies

The funny part is nobody even made a 9/11 joke. A picture of a plane crashing was posted, a visual comment about the course the thread was taking. That was posted on September 12th (come on @Sam, its 2016 and you're a developer, surely you know WTF a timezone is?). But because in a different country, its the same day as when 15 years ago a few planes were deliberately crashed and a bunch of people died, clearly Skillful is as bad as Al Queda.

Yes, 9/11 was a tragedy that shouldn't be joked about. But it equally shouldn't be abused as a convenient reason to censor what people can and cant post. The only people in this thread even mentioning 9/11 are people complaining that we're joking about 9/11, or people responding to how bloody ridiculous those complaints are. So stop trying to use a terrorist attack that happened 15 years ago as some sort of moral justification for censorship and oppression - that is FAR more insulting to the victims of 9/11 than a totally unrelated picture.

Can I ask why the management team chose to wait until everything was resolved and people were moving on back to on-topic discussions to take any action at all? And if we really broke rules, why wasn't any action taken against anyone? Either we broke the rules and should be issued with the appropriate penalty, we didnt break the rules and ineseri should be sanctioned for locking the thread without cause, or the site rules are worthless and nobody should care about them.

It's telling regarding your attitude that you would rather hold grudges than move on and try to be a better contributor.  Our staff did nothing wrong in locking a thread that had spiralled out of control, and in the interests of fairness, we took the action to not issue sanctions immediately but instead to carefully review what had happened first instead.

As such, this thread is now back, and if you weren't so interested in being part of the problem, but rather wanted to commit to the solution, you might instead be welcoming of this fact and perhaps dare I say it, taking a look at how you can improve your own attitude, rather than resorting to the old adage of "oh but it's someone else's fault".

I didn't see ineseri derailing this thread on September 11 with pictures of planes crashing, nor did I see him contributing to the discussion of marker pens.  Usually if a topic comes off the rails, it does so for a couple a posts - this went on for over five pages.

Thankfully though, I consider this matter to be resolved, so let's give the people their topic back now.  If you're not mature enough to do so, please let me know so that we can consider other options.  I respect your *previous* contributions to the community, as do many others, no matter how awful your attitude has been as of late.  Ultimately though, absolutely nobody is bigger than this community, and if you can't play nicely, you will not be playing at all.

Thanks.  Let's move on now.

They've had them on trial for a while now, one in Bundaberg, one in Logan and one in far north QLD. The are a different thing to see on the road but I think the move to the black background colour makes it better rather than white. Especially since black is a cheaper paint than white.

Ohh while you're here @Sam

I had a question, was forwarded onto Cyan but never got a reply..
I realise since the DDoS attacks the site's been more restricted, but any chance of raising the amount of requests someone can make by a little?
Used to be able to have heaps of those sexy embedded links but since had to delete most of them and turn them into plain ass normal hyperlinks because it says "Sending too many requests, some have been dropped" and doesn't display 3/4ths of the embedded links.

I predict the answer is no for one reason or another, but I really do like to use those embedded links in this thread.

Quite frankly, I find that quite disrespectful and I sure do hope that it was just deleted by mistake

Dare I say, a bit hypocritical of the 'investigation' team.

Yes, making an honest mistake is surely hypocritical. There's no need for the passive-aggressive attitude. Ease up!

In the interests of ease of access, and not having this thread locked again - I've pasted some of the guidelines into a spoiler on the top of the first post, as well as links to the guideline hub and actual terms page, as well as highlighting some things to go by that may or may not have been apart of the terms you probably didn't read through.

If you don't read through the terms, I'd appreciate it if you'd take a few secs to at least read what I briefly highlighted above the terms, if you read and go by those in this thread, that'll ensure we don't get locked again and this thread can be enjoyed and used for ages.

Cheers.

I too am keen that this doesn't turn into a case of the few ruining it for the many again.  Thanks for keeping a level head about this, I'll quickly answer you below, and then let's hope that this thing can get back to normal and you guys can enjoy it again.

Well I wish that the answer wasn't no, but it's a little bit more complicated than that.  From what I understand, some of the attacks have been increasingly ferocious in their nature and this limit is something that has been effective in stopping them.  Hopefully it's something that doesn't last for too long.

Eh, after thinking about it I think it's better this way. This way we know our boundaries, where as before we really didn't know how far it could go before it breached rules and guidelines.
None of us got banned or warning points added, so we basically came off no worse than when we started - the only thing we lost was a couple of days of access to the thread.

If the thread remained locked, or a few of us got banned that'd be a different story and I'd be salty as fuck, but considering we came off pretty good, I've been okay with brushing it off and using the opportunity to recognise the boundaries and bettering the thread.

Although I'd like to take the opportunity to highlight some things that you're right about and other to the moderators:
- AussieGaming is right, Aussie banter is wide known throughout the depths of the internet as being .. err.. Different, and perhaps more hard skinned. What seems like it's approaching a violent brawl can actually be careless banter and shitposting we can all move on from once the night is over. We generally sleep things off.
In saying that I think now we know that shit doesn't belong in public anymore. I'd like to take the opportunity to say I'd like this not to be the end of jokes and banter. Staying strictly on topic isn't what I made this thread for, crack funnies, briefly shit talk, we now know extended shitposting belongs in a group chat though, which brings me into my second thing.

I didn't make this thread to be strictly on topic 24/7 - this thread should not be treated like the people of North Korea, off topic discussion and sarcasm isn't banned (yeah, NK banned sarcasm, fucked up, right?)
We've previously been warned for being slightly off topic - at that point I scratched my head because I was kind of thinking.. Well.. That's kind of what this place is for.
This place brings people with at least one thing in common together - they're Australian. They should be able to use this thread to discuss, briefly shitpost as long as it returns to normal - I don't want this thread to be strictly about LSPDFR, or GTA V mods etc. I just wanted to make that clear in case of future warnings - please allow the discussion thread to astray from mods and lspdfr a little, every now and then. Shitposting is our nature.

Edit: I didn't originally see this in quoted post, but I'd like to add I'm not one to think 'opinions' should be censored either, much like, and going along with off-topic shit posts. I guess there's obviously an implied line on how far opinions can go on a privately owned site, but I've never been one for censorship.

No point being salty, I'd say we got off pretty good.

And that's a shame to hear about the requests thing, it's a shame not every link can be embedded anymore but I understand completely. Security and ensuring the site can actually be used > Cool things and wants

I mean, here's the deal.  This thread went too far with the nonsense.  There were pages and pages of it and everything was happening in really quick succession.  I've already given examples of what happened in this topic, and none of it is particularly suitable for our forum.  I understand that each person has their own definitions of humour, but we also have our definition of what we find to be acceptable and you can find this in our Community Guidelines.  Everyone who uses this website has agreed to follow these guidelines, and must also understand that they can and will be held accountable for violating them.  It was our opinion that the conduct in this topic in the last few pages violated our guidelines (which it clearly did), and that's why our team became involved.  I honestly find it incredibly ironic that in a community which centres around law enforcement topics, people who are generally supportive of both laws and their enforcement, who literally dedicate their entire game towards the police, can have such an issue when we enforce our own rules.  If you are of the opinion that our rules are wrong, then that's fine and we're more than happy to discuss them, but it doesn't mean that they need not be followed.

Indeed, speaking of opinions, nobody gets banned for sharing them provided that they do so in a respectful manner.  Myself and my team do what we do simply out of love for our projects, both LCPDFR and LSPDFR, and that's the reason that we're here.  I've dedicated years of my life to doing something that I love and I've been lucky enough to share this with hundreds of thousands of other people too.  Given that we put so much effort into these projects and this community, I expect that in return, we are at least treated with a basic level of respect.  Nobody needs to agree with the decisions that we take, but the disrespect that people have been displaying towards myself and my team recently is quite frankly ridiculous.  The backlash that we've received from people regarding our actions in closing this thread is quite simply stupid, and it's honestly quite painful to see some of the things that people have done since.  Nonetheless, we've reopened the thread, removed the spam and are attempting to give everyone a chance to return to normality.  As you've said, despite all of the things that have happened here, no warning points have been issued.

The only circumstance in which we punish people for giving their opinion is if they fail to afford us the basic respect that is expected of every member and member of staff here.  If you'd like to see an example, then here you go:

Spoiler

DpkWHV8.png

It would honestly be a lot easier for us to not enforce any rules at all - but then we wouldn't have a community which is enjoyed by so many people.  Nobody is saying that you can't enjoy yourselves in this thread, we want you to, we're just saying that you can't do it at the expense of others, which is clearly what happens when the memes and insults start to flow.  People come here for the great content that our members have to offer, not to look at marker pens in a blender and certainly not to have cancer wished upon them.  This topic, which honestly was a fantastic example of what our community is about, quickly turned into exactly the opposite.  Now that we've cleaned it up, I hope that it can go back to what it once was.
