New Upgrades to the Interceptors bullet proof doors

Featured Replies

Our cars don't even have a prisoner cage, let alone bullet proof doors. (although we do have dedicated PT vans but they're not always available).

But obviously we are a communist country with no freedom because muh guns aren't legal

Can't take away mah Freedumbs. It's muh second amendment right to carry 40 rifles with 80 round clips.

It's like a condom: better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Never know when you might get involved in a shootout.

but idk

I agree, I have seen instances where an armed civilian has saved the lives of many others because he had a gun, but that was only because the criminal also had one. Over here, virtually no criminals have guns, and the ones that do aren't usually the type to go out and shoot random people, they are usually attacking enemy gangs.

But, it would be pretty hard to get guns off the street once they are already out there, which is why the mentality of owning a gun for protection is so popular. Whereas we never had any guns on the street so our mentality is to not bring any guns in.

On topic, based on a quick read of the article, it was requested by Middle East and eastern European customers, most likely because of the increased threat of Islamic extremism. Most likely, it is an optional upgrade, and US police forces will probably not go for it as most of their threats come from cheap handguns.

If I man interject, not being a gun expert shouldn't disqualify him from giving a reasonable argument that the 2nd amendment is antiquated and has needed a page 1 re-write for a long time, or the fact that gun culture in America appears to the rest of the world to have very little 'culture' in it. We can have a gun control debate in another thread, but I'd like to at least stick up for 'thegreathah' real quick.

Back on the topic of which countries will use it: As far as other countries using the feature, how many countries outside the U.S. and Canada are using Ford vehicles? Most police videos from eastern European countries I've seen feature crappy little hatchbacks with a canal boat engine in them, England uses Vauxhalls, France uses Peugeots or Renaults, Germany uses BMWs and Mercedes, Australia uses GM vehicles (Holden), etc. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I also see this as being yet another thing to slow down the already mediocre police cars that Ford produces. 0-60 in 6 seconds? Not anymore. Enjoy the extra weight. Stable SUV frame? Not anymore. Enjoy the worsened center of gravity problem

Actually, our national police and military police use Ford vehicles occasionally, but it really depends on the location and what budget was allowed to the station, as Ford vehicles are pretty expensive around here, both to buy and to maintain, due to the fact they are an exported brand. It also remains utility vehicles most of the time for high trunk capacity and the like, safe from a few exceptions.

Same goes for my country (Russia). Usual thugs can't go over a hunting shotgun or a self-made Makarov pistol. And those who do have serious firepower do not attack the police, because they are controlled by the same people who control police... Well, usually. This doesn't mitigate the fact that Russia is violent. Frankly, a broken bottle can do more harm that a pistol.

All the countries are different. I believe. It's ridiculous to think that if you took all the guns from the US soil their cops could go around armed with wooden batons and drinking tea. When cops are shot to death even in Paris, it can' hurt to prepare for the worst. After all, those people who hate guns at the same time love welcoming paperless foreigners with little to no verifiable background.

Also, i've seen heaps of people who say they don't trust cops with anything and that they are all corrupt, but they don't see the background stuff. Stuff like preventing mass terrorism attacks, keeping the country from imminent danger and gathering extremely valuable intelligence to help further countries on their war against terror. The reason why they think ALL cops are corrupt is because once they got a ticket for going 5 over or they saw a compilation on youtube of brutality...

So now that they don't trust cops, they buy a gun. They have no training in hazard detection or how to handle a situation at all, so as soon as someone does something that the gun toting citizen thinks is gonna harm him, someone gets shot. Now the guy who got shot could of simply been reaching for his phone, and the other guy gets charged with murder...

And after writing this I realised the thread is about bullet proof doors on an interceptor. So to keep this post on topic,

I think that heavy armour on police cars is unnecessary, and if you think it is necessary then you might have bigger problems than upgrading your armour.

Neato. What's with all of the shitty Russian cop cars I see on dash cam videos? Those nice ones must only be in big modern cities.

Those are what I'm used to seeing.

I've also seen agencies like the FSB use BMW and Mercedes vehicles.

England uses Vauxhalls

It's been a good few years since I've seen a Vauxhall squad car.

A north wales police car that I see every other day pretty much, ford.

BMW pursuit car, not a vauxhall.

Yet another Ford, next to a single Vauxhall. Never actually seen that Vauxhall, maybe it's not used in Rhyl.

2 Fords there.

I have now proved my point. Most (welsh, maybe england is really different) police cars here are Ford. Albeit they are not the FPI

Vauxhall Secures United Kingdom’s Largest Police Car Order

General Motors’ Vauxhall has just signed a deal to supply the UK’s Police force over 2,000 vehicles over the next two years. The multi-million pound order cements Vauxhall’s position as the largest provider of low and intermediate performance cars to the UK Police, with a 60 percent share of competitive markets.

The standard in years past was the Vauxhall Astra Diesel, but they may use gasoline (petrol) powered cars now. I'm not sure since I don't live there, but I'm not making statistics up.

I have never ever seen that car and I do go out quite a bit. Probably because I'm in Wales, where we get everything... a few years later than the rest.
