Good Graphics Card for GTA IV?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm wondering if the VisionTek 400665 Radeon HD 5550 1GB would run GTA IV smoothly...

I currently have a great pc but it only has a 256mb graphics card and I'm tired of lag.

So will this graphics card run GTA IV with at least 15-25fps

  • Just so you know with the new card I get 35 FPS vs 8 Thus the first card was good! F*** You

I can't speak for the 5550 (I'd assume it won't really run GTAIV) however, the HD 6850 can run GTAIV with 50+ FPS and it's only like $150 off newegg.

And I just wan't to know how many fps I will get...

Refurbished isn't a good idea and that thing is DDR2, which is pretty much ancient by now

I know but I have a DDR2 Motherboard and I'm not ready to buy a new computer and I can't find a decent DDR2 Graphics Card thats better than that one

Will you tell me approx. how many fps I will get.

look at the replies in this thread.

That graphics card is way too weak for GTA4

you have an incredibly weak GPU, and are trying to play a very demanding game.

You'll definitely be playing on minimum settings with a very low FPS and you'll still probably have lag. Plus, we can't tell what FPS you'll get as we don't know the rest of your specs.

I currently have a 4350 and this is a pretty good card, but it gets 15-20 FPS with minimum settings on GTAIV, even though it maxes crysis and E:TW... I doubt the 5500 series is any better

Reading your statement I have a feeling you're saying that for EFLC not IV.Because IV can give 50-60 FPS on your card while EFLC will give the exact what you mentioned,i.e. 15-20.

God Curse R*...

dafuq? A 4350? I use regular IV. My CPU is actually pretty strong, but held back by 2.6ghz. Phenom II has had a good, long run, but soon, I'm off to the FX 4170 (I think that's it, 4.2 ghz stock)

Although, I do find it strange how I can max out crysis and ETW but not Metro 2033 and GTAIV...

They're not greedy or anything, they're just....

Ah! You'll understand this when you yourself try becoming a game developer. Its not easy as it seems. They've done a lot.I might curse them for EFLC's low FPS as it it could've been better, but on the other hand,I don't refrain to admit that whatever they've done/are doing deserves some respect,at least. No other game has been able to achieve what IV achieved. Its certainly unique in its class.

I never said they were bad, I said greedy. What company isn't nowadays?

DDR2 means something completely different for main memory and graphics cards. For computers, it's old but OK (the most recent is DDR3). For graphics cards, it's ancient (most recent is GDDR5) [for graphics cards, progression was DDR, DDR2, GDDR3 (improvement on DDR2), GDDR4 (based on DDR3), GDDR5].

I have ordered a ddr3 card before and then I read up on it and my DDR2 Motherboard can't handle DDR3

No, the slot has nothing to do with DDR2 or DDR3. The slot is PCIe, which is a completely different standard. Can you post your current card? (I mean the exact card, not another one in the same family)

There used to be some good companies out there focused more on quality. Now, it's mostly Chinese plastic crap that costs $5. A good example of a quality company is Chrysler/Dodge.

Many companies try to produce products of reasonable quality, and programmers tend to *like* improving their code. However, keep in mind that Rockstar is owned by Take-Two Interactive, which is a publicly traded company. Not only is is reasonable for them to try to make money, they are legally obligated to try to make money for shareholders. Thus, Rockstar is pushed to increase profit.
