Good Graphics Card for GTA IV?

Featured Replies

I was responding to the "6850 has a good fan" comment.

Also, you've reminded my of my first attempt to build a system. Protip: Pentium D chips run hot. If you don't cool them right, your system will shut down every 5 minutes or so, and you'll wind up with permanent damage.

Pentium... ah.. Reminds me of being a young(er) kid... I broke the SATA slot on my old PC, so It's sitting there useless now :( . Pentium 4 brings back memories, along with that 64mb graphics chip, PCI, 200W PSU... Ah. It wasn't until really 2-3 years ago that I started learning about parts and all this stuff.

  • Just so you know with the new card I get 35 FPS vs 8 Thus the first card was good! F*** You

10-15 FPS? How the hell do you live with that. The 8000 series is pretty old, but DDR2 on the 8500? goddamn, it feels like yesterday I foolishly almost ordered one to upgrade an old PCI computer...

I can live with it but it's hard, Is this a better card or not?

Neither card is good for this.

I remember like 3-4 years ago when the 8500GT was top of the line :P Now, it's left in the dirt to die like the old Pentium 4's

Again which one is better the 8500GT or the first one? Please Tell Me, Just which one is better?

That 1gb vs 256mb really doesn't mean all that much, that's just for resolution. As for GPU power, they're equal for their time. 8500GT was top notch 5 years ago, the other one sucks for nowadays, so they're equal.

What? Memory != resolution.

EDIT: This is wrong; memory does just matter for resolution. I'm leaving it to not cover up my mistake.

Wait, never mind. I didn't know memory was resolution, but I just checked, and it is.

BTW, != means "does not equal" in programming (and has spread to other things on the internet).

Meh, I thought =/= was not equal

Oh wait, programming. I'm an idiot, I forgot that :P

lol, a mac for gaming.

No, all of those cards are bad.

You have a DDR2 motherboard in probably all of your PCs, that means you CANNOT HANDLE GTA 4 without a new motherboard!

NO! I have a brand new pc with a DDR3 Motherboard Don't underestimate me

And JAM-Justin uses a Mac with Boot Camp for GTA IV which is the best between my Mac, The first graphics card, the original, or the last graphics card?

None of them. they're all DDR2.

You can use GDDR3 with a DDR2 MB. All that matters is that the PCIe is compatible, and 2.0 and 1.0 are apparently compatible.
