Rockstar, FiveM And Modding

Featured Replies

So unless you live under a rock you'll know about FiveM and what it is. If you don't it was one of our tickets to multiplayer mods. Think SA:MP or MTA for V.

Well recently it's been confirmed that those affiliated with the project have been banned from Rockstar Games Social Club. Yes, the whole thing. No, not just GTA Online, but from any game that requires the user to sign in via their Rockstar Social Club Account for authorisation.

Those involved suggest they were manually banned within a few minutes of each other, and that (given one states never to have used single player mods) they are not likely related to single player modding.

You can find more information about the situation here:

Updates from the official FiveM reddit page suggest FiveM is to POTENTIALLY be discontinued at this time.

I think I may also be banned, I'm getting an error trying to login to social club - albeit no e-mail yet. Cannot test GTA V right now as I'm in Liverpool and only have my laptop.

To add to this, I had a fork of FiveM. I won't get in to too much details, but it would be a great way to expand LSPDFR into Online and some rudamentary work was underway on my end to make this happen.

It's more likely this to due to how FiveM authenticated with R* social club, and how it bypassed the DRM (to an extent).

Can't have an open park next to their walled garden. Classy, R*.

Ironic when the whole reason of forcing a launcher login was to make sure people had valid ownership of the game, well, at least I thought it was.

Mmm, from a code standpoint it was lacking DRM, really. People with cracked games easily bypassed the checks. FiveM by default completely bypassed the launcher entirely (unless they changed this in the past month).

So I don't agree with NTAuthority's stance that it was only people who had purchased the game.

Thing is though the reddit mod contacted the news sites in plenty and informed them all that no such DRM checks took place with FiveM? I can't validate this though, I don't have it.

Seems pretty clear that these bans are related directly to simple affiliation with the project, not even development.

Yeah, which is why I added the last part to my post after reading the update on the article.

And? They've also banned someone who is in no way involved in development nor even a player of GTAV.

Yes, but those guys ( 2 non developer I think?) contributed heavily to FiveM .

Ars Technica picked up the story some time ago, and they have just updated the article with a statement from a Rockstar representative.

Update: A Rockstar representative confirmed the bans with the following statement provided to Ars: "The FiveM project is an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that contains code designed to facilitate piracy. Our policy on such violations of our terms of service are clear, and the individuals involved in its creation have had their Social Club accounts suspended."
