Put sirens onto a non-police vehicle

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This is my first forum post, so sincere apologies if I have posted into the wrong place!

Firstly I would like to thank the team for their insane LSPDFR mod; you've done a great job!

I have been playing around with some of the GTA 5 files in OpenIV in an attempt to put a police siren onto non-police vehicle. In my case I wanted to put a police siren onto 'INSURGENT2'. I just felt that it would make an ideal SWAT vehicle; good off road, strong, and fast! Obviously it's a waste of time using it as a police vehicle unless you've got sirens on the vehicle.

In an attempt to mod it myself, I've actually got very close, however have reached a bit of a issue. All I have done is taken the 'INSURGENT2' vehicle files and renamed them 'RIOT', and re-inserted them into the 'vehicles.rpf', so now the 'RIOT'  is using the 'INSURGENT2' model. I then updated the 'vehicles.meta' to set the 'RIOT' handling to 'INSURGENT2'. So in short, if you now spawn the 'RIOT' in my GTA 5, it will actually spawn an 'INSURGENT2'.

It somehow worked and didn't crash etc, which is something. The 'INSURGENT2' now had sirens and flashing rear lights! Something I haven't yet figured out is the why the exterior of the 'INSURGENT2' is now glitchy and displaying a load of random textures? It might just be because of something I haven't yet updated in the meta or rpfs, but I haven't a clue.

1. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

2. Is there a better way to achieve a siren on a non-police vehicle?

3. Is there a way to change the default colour for the 'INSURGENT2' to matte black?

Please find attached screenshots of the issues.

Many thanks,

Jordan

Oh and yes, I do think this would be an awesome feature for LSPDFR! Think of a police super car like the Adder!

This is pretty cool.  I always thought the Riot sucked the Insurgent would make for a much better replacement for it.

My suggestion would be that you extract all the textures from the Riot texture file and place them into the Insurgent texture file.  I'm not sure if that is possible yet, though.

I thought of this today when I was on a chase in the middle of the long road to SSA in my police vehicle when the engine got destroyed and I had to stop a civilian car to continue.

Hi Sam,

Yeah the Riot is quite disappointing, just so slow and bulky; rubbish for pursuits! As I said the siren and rear flashing lights work no problem on the 'INSURGENT2', just a pity about the texture glitch. It keeps the traits of the 'RIOT' too which is interesting; meta flags like 'bullet proof glass' and stuff! I'll look into your suggestion and let you know if I figure out how to do it!

Hi Chekko,

There's nothing worse than losing your vehicle. I usually press F4 to bring up the Ragehook console, and type in 'SPAWN [VEHICLE NAME HERE]', and it'll spawn a new vehicle right in front of you!

Check the YTD file to see if there are textures that shouldn't be there.

However, if i were you. I would ask OfficerCornish for help, he's done a similar thing with great success (replacing the sheriff cruiser with a Interceptor)

Hi officerAMR

The texture file was fine and contained all the correct textures for the 'INSURGENT2'.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll drop OfficerCornish a message and see if he has any ideas.

@Sam

I did what you suggested and didn't seem to make a difference. I'll keep at it as I'm sure it'll be worth it!

Actually, you should be able to edit the carvariations.meta, look for INSURGENT2 and change

      <sirenSettings value="0" />

to any of these:

About siren setting, It is varies from police cars, ambulance, fire truck, Lifeguard SUV to Riot, This is the list about configuring siren lights.

<sirenSettings value="1" /> = This means the siren lights should be placed on added Police Buffalo or Sheriff SUV
<sirenSettings value="2" /> = This siren lights is placed on Police Interceptor.
<sirenSettings value="5" /> = This should be placed to Police Transporter.
<sirenSettings value="4" /> = This siren lights is for Ambulance only.
<sirenSettings value="7" /> = Fire Truck Siren lights.
<sirenSettings value="9" /> = Lifeguard SUV Siren.
<sirenSettings value="10" /> = Same as Above.
<sirenSettings value="13" /> = This is siren lights which is comes fron Stanier Police Cruiser and Sheriff Cruiser.

Then you wouldn't have to replace any model. I haven't tried it on existing models yet, but it SHOULD add sirens to the vehicle, as it's the same method used when you add new police car models to the game.

EDIT: This should also influence the siren used (as there is several different sirens in the game) and also to some extent the flash pattern (if I'm not totally mistaken)

@Break

This is exactly what I have been doing today haha :^) .

I have managed to change the default colour to matte black, and I've also got the flashing rear lights working. This time it's the siren itself that doesn't work!

When I activate the siren the rear lights flash, but there is no siren sound at all. Pressing and holding the horn button only activates the 'INSURGENT2' horn. However other vehicles on the road recognise me as a police vehicle and move to the side of the road when the silent siren is active.

Here is my code so far, does anyone know how to resolve the silent siren issue?

EDIT: you may notice traces to the RIOT in my above code, these were just merely attempts to get the siren working by changing 'INSURGENT2' attributes to 'RIOT' ones.

If anyone has any ideas, I am very interested in this topic as well.  I'm trying to add a vehicle to the game (Sheriff SUV with a trooper texture), and although I've gotten the textures to load in the game, so far it's not recognized as a police vehicle, doesn't have any sounds, etc.

Also, where is the carvariations.dat located for the emergency vehicles?

I believe all the original car variations are in:

Grand Theft Auto V\x64a.rpf\data\carvariations.ymt

However as they're compiled as '.ymt' I don't know how to view the file contents.

However if you're trying to add a new Sheriff SUV I highly recommend following these steps:

http://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/50909-adding-a-new-emergency-vehicle-is-possible-now/#comment-336409

Follow all the steps in the above link carefully and it should work - (even with siren sounds). Make sure that you've put your new Sheriff SUV into ONLY ONE of the two carvariations.meta:

Grand Theft Auto V\update\x64\dlcpacks\mpheist\dlc.rpf\common\data\carvariations.meta

Grand Theft Auto V\update\x64\dlcpacks\mpchristmas2\dlc.rpf\common\data\carvariations.meta

Just read through that link for more information and all the steps!

Actually, you should be able to edit the carvariations.meta, look for INSURGENT2 and change

to any of these:

Then you wouldn't have to replace any model. I haven't tried it on existing models yet, but it SHOULD add sirens to the vehicle, as it's the same method used when you add new police car models to the game.

EDIT: This should also influence the siren used (as there is several different sirens in the game) and also to some extent the flash pattern (if I'm not totally mistaken)

Does this mean that i can manipulate the ambulance to use the fire department sirens ? All i have to do is just switch around the coding according to your list above ? Where can i find this carvariations.meta ?

As I just learned, there are two of the files:

Grand Theft Auto V\update\x64\dlcpacks\mpheist\dlc.rpf\common\data\carvariations.meta

Grand Theft Auto V\update\x64\dlcpacks\mpchristmas2\dlc.rpf\common\data\carvariations.meta

And you only need to edit one per vehicle.

I misread your first post.  Unfortunately I don't know how to edit the stock vehicles in the game, but I can tell you how to add new ones and customize those (I'm still kinda figuring it out though). But I have no idea where the meta files that point to the original emergency vehicles are.

Maybe you could put the data in there yourself and it would work? I'm literally just starting making textures / vehicles today, so there's still a lot to learn.
